Even basic scanners usually can read the VIN off the ECU so I don't understand why that unit wants you to input it manually. That's a negative feature unless it was actually comparing the ECU VIN with the body VIN to make sure they are compatible but that should be a separate feature from a sensor scan. I have the MD802 that is a great scanner also I might look into this one and upgrade but this one looks like it does the same so far the only difference I see is the shape of the scanner I will have to see if it does anything different
The reason it couldn't auto ID the Honda is because the tool has not been updated, once you update it with the latest software programming which in this case is still back in 2012 even though it's a new scan tool you will be able to auto scan anything by simply plugging into the diagnostic port.
