It was an immense pleasure to learn such an important milestone for every violinist today Butterfly Lovers Concerto, as you must not only learn another concerto, but to understand the subtleties of the Chinese way to play a string instrument such as erhu, and get basic understanding of the style of Chinese opera. Was a real challenge for me.
This was the first time I performed the concerto in Shanghai with the marvelous Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and its music director, my dear friend and colleague Yu Long. I thank him for guiding me through the process and all the advice he has given me in Shanghai and on tour in New York, Hong Kong, London and Rio de Janeiro.
