Maximize Harvesting Lettuce With The Cut and Come Again Method

We put a lot of time into our gardens, so let's make sure we get the most out of our greens! Lettuce, spinach, mustard greens, and many other leafy veggies can be harvested many times over using the cut and come again method.
As long as you don't damage the growing tip or "crown" of the plant, you're in good shape. Either take scissors and chop off the outer, mature leaves, or come in with a high-quality and SHARP chef's knife and slice off just above the crown.
This method makes harvesting mustard greens and all sorts of other 'odd' greens a breeze as well, so don't discriminate!

I like how you actually explained the pitfalls and how to do it. I've seen other videos where people just cut and assume you know how to find the crown and avoid it. Thanks for going into detail, keep making quality content like this.

Don't use a knife; use your hand. You will be wasting a lot of lettuce leaves when you use a knife. And a leaf lettuce will grow taller and taller when you peel off its leaves. You can continue to peel lettuce leaves until it bolts. The best choice of leaf lettuce is black seeded Simpsons cause it will bolt at relative high temperature and low relative humidity.

Great video, one question though. You seem to remove most of the leafs, and soon after state that the number of harvests are limited due to lack of energy. If you harvested less each time, and thereby left more leafs behind to gather sunlight, wouldn't the plant be able to go on indefinitely?

Thank you for explaining how to find the "crown" of a lettuce plant. So many videos show how to harvest the leaves, but fail to explain "how" to avoid killing the plant. I also appreciate the explanation of how many times one can harvest from the same plant.
