Maximum the Hormone is recognized as a metal band, but initially their songs were more in line with punk rock. They have always focused on rock festivals and live performances, and have not spent much budget or time on advertising activities or music video production. (However, they put a lot of effort into their music videos.) Maximum the Hormone's ability to cover so many genres is the result of their performance skills based on their vast live performance experience, and their ability to mix and match these genres into a single song is astounding. This song will help many in understanding Maximum the Hormone's ability to cross genres and compose at a high level, with all band members participating on vocals, and their skill in doing so with surprising ease. I mentioned at the beginning that they are a metal band, but that is only because they call themselves that. The reality is that they are unique in the world. The Japanese metal band you mentioned as an example is just an up-and-coming band that has emerged in recent years. As they themselves profess, Maximum the Hormone are living legends who have created a firm position through their live activities alone. Although the band has become widely known on RU-vid, many people cannot understand many of the lyrics, which you might think is natural since they are in Japanese, but rest assured that even we Japanese cannot understand the lyrics correctly.

They are a super prog band, able to mix up metal, punk, disco, rap, metal core, harsh vocals, ska, clean vocals, more metal, more punk, all in the same song, and make it sound fantastic. They somehow can do that with every song yet make every song sound different, an incredible talent. But be warned, after listening to their catalog almost all other bands will sound boring . Also they are not pretentious at all, always making fun of themselves and fun about what they’re singing (hard to tell because it’s all Japanese to me😊) 👍🇦🇺🤘

The name is kind of a pun (Japanese love puns). The literal meaning is about having hormones, e.g., testosterone, turned up to the maximum level. But “hormone,” when pronounced is Japanese is “ho-ru-mo-n,” or ホルモン, which is a dish made of cow stomach, something like Japanese menudo. Apparently the band loves to eat, and several of their videos involve food. They have many recordings, but only a handful of videos, all excellent. Their most Metal video is HUNGRY PRIDE.

Always expect the unexpected with M.T.H.. Their very early stuff is very punk and they have always carried that attitude as their music has evolved.

As nearly always with Rammstein songs the lyrics are outstanding, but not enough appreciated. Just a few examples from "Amerika". The chorus is: -- "We are living in Amerika (pronounced the German way, hence written with a -k-) Amerika ist wunderbar" "wunderbar" is ambiguous. The most obvious meaning is "wonderful", so America is a place full of wonders, a great place. But it also means the opposite: a place without any wonders, a terrible place. As a noun "Wunderbar" means a great pub or club, where wonders happen. -- "Und vor Paris steht Micky Mouse" (literally "stands") The obvious meaning is Disney Land is situated near Paris. But "steht" in this context is unusual. An invading army "steht" in front of a city, besieges a city, ready to attack. And that is meant here: Popular American culture is attacking even Paris. -- "Wir tanzen einen lieben Reigen." "Reigen" is an out-dated word, meaning round dance, as shown in the video twice: The band members hold their hands and dance around the US flag on the moon. This is a "lieber Reigen" (friendly, kind round dance). But right after "Indians" dance around a stake, ready to martyr someone - a brutal round dance. -- The metaphor of the round dance probably is an allusion to the round dance around the golden calf (Bible, Exodus), worshiping an idol, a wrong god. This is what so many people in the world do nowadays: The worship the wrong god US pop-culture. And so on. There is much more in the lyrics, but my comment is already too long.

MTH is a big influence in Japan. They have been around awhile. It's kind of a hot mess for me, too many different styles in one song. This MV shows different pieces of American culture. It's part Van Halen, part punk, part rap, part hardcore. The chick was driving KITT from the Knight Rider tv show! That was cool! 🤪 I don't really follow this band, but I do recognize their place in the Japan music scene.

MTH are a bunch of goofballs. They are really really good, but they don't take themselves seriously. The anti-Oasis. Another band like that is Eskimo Callboy.
