Great video! Huge improvement from previous gen. But wish you showed more details with the 285/75, suspension at full compression AND at maximum steering. Because some new gen will have SDM, so it will cycle to that extreme. Look forward to more testing you’ll have!

Great video! There is another tire I was hoping to see…..Toyo AT3 34 X 10.5 r17. I think that’s the perfect tire for the Tacoma. It’s supposed to be 33.5” tall but a lot of people say it’s way less than that. You’d settle a lot of arguments if you mounted one and compared it to a 285 70 r17. Jeep and taco guys everywhere have been disputing that for a long while

I am running 2022 tundra TRD wheels (9x18) with 265/70/18 tires on my 2024 SR5, Tires are even with outside fender lips, Looks great. Bought wheels and tires on Market Place for $400

This is where the small over stressed turbo motors really struggle....bigger tires. Former 2014 F-150 Ecoboost owner here to report that both my turbos went out on me at 138,250'ish miles back in 2021. You see, when you go bigger tires, and I went 35's on my F-150 Lariat Ecboost 4x4 with the 3.31 rear end, not only did my gas mileage drop in the toilet at 11 mpg city and 15 highway, but my turbos screamed literally all the time. This caused the barring's to go out at 81,000 miles, and then both of them to fail a few years after that. $7188 was the replacement price because when they go they damage your engine too. Bottom line I sold the truck as-is and walked across the street and bought a 2021 Tundra TRD Pro double cab. I put 34.5 inch Nitto Ridge Grapplers on that (285/70/18) and wouldn't ya know that V8 with a 4.30 rear gets 14.5-15 city and 17-17.5 highway all day long. Oh, and the best part is no turbos to go out and no barrings to go bad. Enjoy your tiny over stressed turbos boys and send a thank you card to the Church of Global Warming aka EPA for fucking ya in the ass. Ask them to at least use lube next time.

What about spare tire size? Forums are skeptical about being able to put anything larger than stock underneath... what's the max tire size that fits underneath?

My new 2024 Taco will come with 18 inch rims. What is the biggest tire size I can go with stock rims and without a lift? TIA

285/70/17 looks the winner for those like me who don’t plan on lifting the truck. I wonder if the Toyota TRD wheel is the same size as the Off Road OEM wheel. It looks much better in my opinion.

Adding larger tires is great, however the spare tire location is a problem because even with the trail hunter stock spare is hanging way below the bumper

So you guys recommend the Toyo RT trail tires in 285/70/17 if you wanna just leave everything stock?

The 255/80s will be about a half inch taller than the 285/70 in the Toyo AT/3, but they both cost about the same (if you go with a 117 load index in the 285s). Comparing 255/80s and 285/70s, with similar speed and load ratings, the 255s are a cheaper tire. The higher load rating on the AT3s will start getting about $40 more per tire. The 285/70s are about 10% lighter, and a more common size so it will be easier to find more tire brands and spares if necessary.

What about 285/75/16 with a -20 offset rim? Will it fit stock on Trd Pro or Trd Sport?

I believe the TRD OFF ROAD HYBRID is naturally a little higher off the ground? So I’m assuming 285/75/17 would probably still need a lift?

What aftermarket mudflaps are you using? Looks much better than the factory for protection.

Without a lift, 34's don't look good on the 4th gen Tacoma anyways. A wheel well stuffed full of tire at stock height just doesn't do it for me. I stuck with 33's.

Does a factory lift for the TH change what size you can fit?

Great content, but it’s hard for me to believe anyone likes these wheels. My truck should be in next week, hopefully by the next I’ll have it sitting on some nice looking wheels, and I’ve always been a fan of TRD wheels, but hate this two tone, maybe someone wants to trade.

You mounted the 255/80r17 and never showed it again, you just went right past it and inserted the 34’s I kept waiting for the evaluation of the 255/80r17 and it never came.

Great video thanks ! My understanding is the stock wheel is +55 offset. If i were to replace the wheels with say +25 offset and use the same 285/70/17 tire you used in the video, do you think this creates rub space issues or potentially opens new issues? I do realize this likely pushes the tire outside the plastic wheel well shroud and potentially opens paint chip issues on the lower door...any thoughts are appreciated... Thanks again.

Hello, I got a question about this part 1:53 Is that the weight you just pried off? The last time I had the wheel balanced, they tacked on the weights on the inner rim lip. How many of those do you usually install on a wheel for balancing?

that is too much tire for such a weak drive train. will also kill already dismal MPG. you need to think everything thru more carefully.
