If you have hearing aids, can the VA use that against you? “Oh you can hear fine with these. You don’t need an increase” ?

Am I mistaken or is a rating of 10% for hearing loss and or tinnitus the maximum you can get even if you have and file for Ménière’s disease too because of pyramiding?

Being in a sound proof room is not the same as being in the real world. I have to turn TV up and I have to tell everyone to repeat themselves. It's frustrating for me and everyone around me. The hearing aids help but not like you'd think. They need to change the way the rate us.

I have hearing loss and Tinnitus and after having the C&P examiner turn up the volume in the hearing booth so I could participate in the test I was given zero percent and not military service connected. I spent 6 years working on jets and helicopters with some door gunner time and some how got nothing. I will be appealing that!

My burden of proof for my hearing loss was found while receiving our exit physicals when leaving Saudi Arabia in 1991. 20 years later I finally broke down and asked for hearing aids. They were provided with no questions. My tinnitus was rated at 10% and I was also sent for a C&P for my spondylolisthesis of my S1/L5. Once again, 10%. It was really easy compared to some stories. I'm now trying to get a higher rating for a secondary DDD due to my back issues. Hopefully I'll find out something favorable in the near future. Thank you for this video. ~John

Don't let the VA give you a 0% rating for Tinnitus since the US Supreme Court has ruled in Smith v. Nicholson No. 06-400 the US SUPREME COURT held that Tinnitus is only a 10% disability rating. The only requirement is Tinnitus be PERSISTENT. The court cited that on June 10, 1999, the Secretary amended DC 6260 to identify “Tinnitus: recurrent” as a compensable injury. The rating was ONLY 10%, no 0% or 20% conveys.

I was tested by the VA and told I have high frequency loss and hearing aids do not help high frequency problems. I also hear the wrong words during conversation along with needing higher volumes for hearing. The VA did not suggest or identify what I could apply for. My MOS was 6113 helicopter mechanic and crew chief and flew hundreds of hours as a flight crew member on CH-53 aircraft for the Marine Corps.

I spent three years in tanks. At least three or four times, I unfortunately found myself at the rear of a tank on the firing line-without ear protection-when the 105MM main gun fired; you can bet that will ring your bell. Ive had ringing in my ears ever since-1974 to 77 were my years of service…

I am service connected for hearing loss, but rated at 0%. Probably the biggest issue I have is not being able to hear and understand someone when there is background noise. So, they are going to stick me into a sound proof room where my tinnitus is made even louder! Oh, by the way, I was 13B....field artillery.

Of course and if you can't hear the tones then you have a hearing loss.

My first bout with hearing loss was 50 years ago in boot camp. We fired the M-1 with provided ear plugs. From there we double-timed to the pistol range. ( we thought we were going back to barracks and several of us tossed our earplugs) After firing the pistol with no protection I could not hear the drill sergeant as he told me to set the safety. He decked me as he struck the side of my head and ear. I heard loud crackling sound for months. Then I was stationed on a destroyer where I was stationed in the 4” gun mount. On one occasion we were short one set of earphones. I have suffered varying degrees of hearing problems accompanied by depression ever since. The VA has tested me many times and provided various tys of hearing aids. I was NEVER given any test results or service connection that I am aware of.

My husband is a Vietnam vet. He has been rated 10% tinnitus and 70% overall hearing loss. He now been diagnosed with dementia and his hearing loss definitely aggravates that condition considerably. Does this warrant a "second disability" connected to his hearing loss. Can he qualify for an upgrade of 70% to 100%, due to this secondary condition.

I entered military service with perfect hearing in left ear and total deafness in right ear. Upon leaving the service, my left ear experienced a loss, and the VA service connected that ear with a 0% rating. I'm told that the right ear, not being service-connected, is assigned a roman numeral I, thus I will never get a rating above 0% according to the chart. Is there a way around this?

Depends , what was your MOS ? And do you have any ringing your ears ( tinnitus ) ? And you need copy of your C File to see the results of hearing test when you entered the service. I think a lawyer could help you on appeal perhaps . Good luck

What ever happened with your situation? If i was you i would file new claim.... and even if denied i would then lawyer up and let them handle it.... Because i believe you should not have ever even been allowed to join in first place. And you also need to send off for your C file. good luck bro.

@@jimmieburnett8543 Hi, thanks for the follow-up!!! I never did pursue the hearing rating any further. I did end up getting a P&T 100% for a combination of other things. The VA takes care of my hearing through hearing aids and all the supplies. And you are right...the AF never should have accepted me! The doc at the Pittsburgh MEPS told me "it's not how bad the bad ear is, it's how good the good ear is". I wasn't at my first duty station a month and they were trying to discharge me. My CC fought for me and somehow I managed to do 20 years and retire!!! Take care

@ronaldawaya9359
@ronaldawaya9359 4 месяца назад
To meet the criteria and standard box which the VA has created for veterans to qualify shouldn't be used to determine a veteran's loss of hearing percentage. From weapons firing of the M-14 rifle, 45 handgun, M-60 machine gun, and the M-50 machine gun without any hearing protection issued to the recruits in booth camp is unacceptable. I can honestly say that probably those that generated the percentage for hearing loss have probably never been exposed to firing of those weapons mentioned much less served in the military. The AIT phase involved hand grenades, C-4 detonators, driving of armored vehicles such as recon vehicles M-114's, M-113 personnel carriers, M-48 tanks, then later on the modified Sheridan tanks which were equipped with 20 millimeter cannons and the 50 caliber machine guns on the TC (tank and armored vehicles) commanders hatch, you tell me if those vehicle noise and weapons firing doesn't contribute to hearing loss is "bunk"! Being with the 4th Armored Division, tho' not in a combat zone, we the unit were required to do live fire and tank gunnery training as required should an alert be issued for combat readiness. Weapons firing for combat readiness was a "must" should we be deployed to the Czech border where we would have to defend in the event a "war" broke out. I have constant ringing, equilibrium balance (dizziness and staggering at times), difficulty conversing and understanding individuals when they speak, volumes of 35 to 50 on TV's and my CD player in my truck. It just doesn't get any better. Whenever I ask individuals to repeat themselves, they get upset and truthfully, I don't blame them.

how could we quicken appeal VA decision for some doctors did not properly treated the veteran, or ignored veteran concern. about hearing list what happen to the humming in the ears, or the hard to locate sound source that is what i currently had after long time worked on air craft carrier and the explosion of big battery bank in my case. i had rated service connected 100% but in metal which is nit my correct diagnosed by injury of battery bomb experimental tactical weapon. maybe they used my metal to cover up secrecy of the weapon related injury. i also had ankle injury due to service injury that create constant pain over long standing, walking or cold weather and my eyes detoriated too. i think i need to be dead is better because the old age is not good to live because after 20 years of department of veteran torturing me and the chinese doctor abused me and the kind of toxin they put in my body is even worse than the way the vc treated theur pow

I claimed tinnitus though and she went on to say, “oh everyone has that. You’ll just have to learn to live with it.” Didn’t ask me any questions about my tinnitus so prob ain’t going to get shit

Great video except it didn’t say anything about increasing your rating. It just said that it’s possible but unlikely and that’s the end of it. It didn’t help you find a way to boost your own disability rating the whole video to the point where she said that it’s basically in a nutshell strict. Almost impossible to get higher rating than 10%.

If you can have a hearing disability but it’s not sufficient “for VA purposes” why is that not service-connected at 0%? Because if and when it gets worse, you will then want to be covered by the VA, right? I call BS on the VA
