exactly. That was my impression at the start of the video, and i was very happy for this as it is not practical to copy disks to a usb in pc and then move the stick to the c64. But the outcome was not exactly what i had expected :)

No. It isn't capable of that. The Raspberry Pi is, however.

The Pi3 is a 64 bit processor running around 1.4 gigahertz (depending on the Pi). TheC64 uses something similar but a little slower and less capable than the Pi 3. The Pi has WiFi and Ethernet capabilities so it can go on the Internet easily and is something within the reach of a lot of people. While hacking TheC64 board then adding the capabilities back into the board the Pi already has might be a fun project, it is an academic exercise at best.

@@gigsplain True and indeed. But it would meet the same requirements and the end result, would be a bit more tight, from an enginering perspective. The advantage would be an original keyboard. I have a TheC64 in my collection, and I really dont like the quality of the keyboard. If the makers, just have used a spring under each keycap like original keyboard, then it would have been the best hardware solution for the Vice emulator that it is build with.

@@brostenen the issue is I didn't want an original keyboard. I wanted to be able to use TheC64 keyboard on multiple platforms. I really don't have any complaint about the keyboard itself. Things are made differently today and I will leave it up to you whether that is good or bad. As I mentioned in the video, the additional USB was a bit redundant but otherwise, I think it worked out how I intended it to. I also have several Commodore 64 projects that are waiting on original style keyboards or keycaps. With those projects what you suggest makes sense but this was not like those projects.

@@gigsplain That is true. All projects are different from each other. Personally I dont think the keyboard is the same quality as the original, but that might just be me. But it is a nice project that you have done here.

@@brostenen You're definitely right about the keyboard, however even though it seems a bit less sturdy than an original, I personally find that it types a lot better. I feel like a bmc64 build would be more satisfying, but they are way too common tbh. This project was definitely interesting, and personally, I have always fantasized about having a pi inside a c64 to switch between playing classic games, and using piOS

Plus there is no "maxi" in the name.

@@brostenen May as well accept the Maxi handle. It's pretty solidly established to differentiate this model from the Mini. At this point, it doesn't matter that it's not a manufacturer's designation.

@@Vector_Ze I do accept it is what it is. But only because I have one original breadbin, one SixtyClone that I personally made and currently building a keyboard adaptor for my homemade ATX64.

No. This is The C64. Not an original hardware Commodore 64.

It's a Retro Games THEC64, not an original breadbox, if that helps any.
