In this video I work on the e36 with eBay maxpeedingrods coilovers. They are making a knocking or popping noise. I believe I have found a way to fix that issue.

Thanks for doing this video. Very nicely done. I have been having similar issues with my rear coil overs. I haven't put the fronts on yet, but this will definitely help me out if I have any creaking in the front. My preload was not preset from FF2 like it was supposed to be when I put on my rears the other day. Take care. New sub!

You just got a 'Like' and a 'sub'! I just bought/installed these maxspdrds. this past week and have still been hearing knocking/popping sound coming from certain areas, most noticeably the L-rear area. I've loosened joints at rest/ tightened under load a few times hoping that might fix it, but no luck. I've got a good feeling that my issue may be similar to yours, but I can't check now because it's 1a.m. and I can't take my suspension apart at the moment :(. But later today I will oil-the-crap outta these rods, and hopefully, make that pop-sound disappear. I don't have proper grease on hand, but some Kroil-penetrating oil and some other machine-grade lubes; should that suffice, or is grease a must? I ask because the Kroil smells harsh and is kinda gnarly-chemically, and I'm not sure if that may be too harsh on the rubber ball or something (or if it'll just evaporate too quickly in the future)? Anyway, thanks for the vid! I've spent the last few nights looking up potential causes for these sounds after installing these coilovers and been getting nothing but all the wrong-types of videos and articles for the causes of 'bad' suspension sounds (I'm surprised it's taken so long for the 'always watching', 'always listening', 'always influencing-your-web-traffic' - Google-overlords, to steer me toward your video in the utube recommendations).

just for information, to match pre-loads side to side on adjustable coilovers that are already installed you measure from the top of the spring down the bottom of the spring not the free space between bottom tube and the bottom spring collar, the bottom strut tubes could be threaded on to different levels..........

I believe I found the issue. It is not in the strut mount, but further down the upper spring seat. The seat is supposed to fit tightly on the strut shaft, via a spline or cut into the shaft. The spring seat however is poorly manufactured and allows movement. The whole is not perfectly fits over the shaft, but rather loosely. This allows some movements of the seat w/o the shaft turning. This is where the noise comes from. The grease makes the movement slippery and less creaky but eventually the noise will be back. I only drove about 50-60 miles with this issue and the seat is already is in worse shape. This is aluminium so it wears fast if there is a bind. The solution is a new spring seat but have not been able to find parts or parts list anywhere. I tried contacting the manufacturer w/o success which worries me. It is a cheap kit but not throwaway cheap. I paid $209 and do not want to buy an another one because of a small part of it failed. That part should be available as replacement. I made a primitive video of the issue when I found it. If you go to my youtube site, it should be there. I'm not a pro on this, just wanted to help finding the source of this horrible noise.

this might make it better but not a fix per se. The fact that all coil overs creak on the right side and ONLY on a right side, it tells me this is other issue. I have same issue, right side makes same noise. It turns the coil upper seat and that makes the noise. I'm thinking manufacturing defect.
