Maxwell suggests to Fran she change the way she dresses in order to be a better role model to the children.
From Season 6 Episode 5, ‘Maggie’s Boyfriend’. Maggie introduces her new boyfriend Michael to her father and Fran. However, she is nervous about her father’s reaction and of Brighton embarrassing her. Fran is impressed by Michael but Maxwell isn’t, and he doesn’t react well when Maggie announces she is planning on moving in with Michael.

He was not criticizing her style. He wanted her to be less seductive when it came to being an example for the kids. Gracie was 12, so that out was not appropriate for her. He still wanted her to set an example for Maggie too. That is what parents do.
