Always great information on LoveMTB channel! I recently switched from DHRII rear to an aggressor (trails mostly get ridden when dry around me in the summer) and it rolls so much better. A friend runs the dissector and I sort of wish I would have given that a go for the rear. Still running a DHF up front because I'm just far too used to it. I definitely want to try a dissector on the rear next after seeing this.

Thanks for all the excellent videos! I used the information on this video to help me choose upgrade tires for the 2021 season. I have a short travel trail bike (21 Trance) ridden in southern Ontario. The bike had a Maxxis 2.4 Minion DHF on the front and a 2.4 Aggressor on the rear. Those tires had impressive grip but I could feel the rolling resistance at slower speeds and I thought they were overkill for the riding I do. i switched to a 2.4 WT Dissector for the front and a 2.4 WT Rekon on the rear. This pairing has been great, after riding them for most of 2021. They definitely have lower rolling resistance and have impressive grip and weigh less; a little less grip on wet rocks and roots that the original tires, but still very acceptable. @@LoveMTB I liked the weight of the Rekon Race; very light. When I asked Maxxis their recommendations, they told me to go with the Rekon; they said the Rekon Race had much shorter tread knobs than the Rekon.

I’m a huge fan of the dissector. I run it as a rear on my Enduro bike with an assegai front. On my HT I run it on the front with a rekon rear. The DHRII is just way to slow running for me on both climbing and accelerating.

@@bobtraweek3087 I don’t run a DHR in the front but some people do and tend to like it. I prefer the assegai in the front for bike park or ebike. It’s slow rolling but a ton of grip in the corners but you gotta really get the bike moving for it to come alive.

I have same setup on my hardtail and loving it. I really like it as a front tire, as it handles like a somewhat slipperier but much faster rolling DHF.

looks like some fun trails you have. I love the dissector, I use it as a front on one bike and rear on the freeride bike with DH casing. rolls great and bites just enough, but not too much that it gets boring.

I agree that Maxxis has a probably the best choices for tread design that others copy. I have used them for years but lately they are warped and one was so warped it was hitting my chain stays. I highly recommend that you only purchase Maxxis from a bike shop that is willing to let you return them for defects. I think that the Dissector is a good rear when the Recon rear is not enough grip.

I have the Dissector front and rear on my Trail 429. I love it as a rear tire but the jury is out as a front. Also had it as a front on my Ripley with the Rekon out back. I place a premium on climbing and it does shine there. Fast rolling tire.

I found on my Meta TR, that matching Dissector / Dissector was NOT a winning combo. Dropping to a Rekon rear was fine for faster rolling XC terrain, and upping the front to a DHF was my preference, but matched the front end kept washing out on me. (Clearly I need a lack of balance in grip F/R.)

I had issues with the front dissector washing out on my 429. I removed a spacer and that fixed the issue. Hooks up perfectly now.

I’m using the dissector 2.4 front and agressor 2.3 in the back on my Canfield tilt. Grippy set up and fast rolling, I live in SoCal by the way which is loose and sandy right now.

Do you find the aggressor lacking in grip in the softer dirt we get in the rutts or in the bottom corners on the steeps? I've ridden the Aggressor on multiple bikes and I felt it losing tracking in some of the sketchier parts of the trails.

@@MTBMOR Hey bro yup your right. I ride soaks all the time, some parts like old goat and even hawk my rear tires loose grip. The aggressor I benefit mostly on climbing less rolling resistance thank my usual rear tire set up which is the DHR 2. I have a La Sal peak that has 2.5 front aggressor front and 2.3 on rear, very fast bike on climbing and ok on the descends.

@@PaoloskyxrdI recently bought a 2.3 Aggressor for the rear of my bike, and I went to it from Continental Race King's for front and rear. The Aggressor blows the RK's outta the water with climbing abilities. I commute too, and the Aggressor's are surprisingly a great tire on the roads as well. I run anywhere between the high 20's to 40 psi with tire pressures, depending on terrain, and the Aggressor's do better with rolling resistance in the high 30's to low 40's on pavement, mid to high 20's on the trails.

@@Micarmn I ride the 2.4 cuz they’re a little quicker both front and rear, if you’re heavy I consider myself heavy get the DD casing on both tires for cornering stability and puncture proof. Recon in the rear is fine just depends on the terrain you ride everyday.

I used that muc off sealant when I set up tubeless on my wheels. I thought it would be a lot harder to seat the tyre with just a floor pump but it sealed up and after I put the sealant in the valve. When I got a nail in the tyre it sealed after I pulled it out.

Every time I go to the bike shops to buy more sealant it seems like they are always trying to sell me some new brand sealant. I've been using stans for a few years now and I'm not sure if there's even a difference between the brands.

I had the Dissector... it was great for about 2 weeks then it wasn't. TroyB who helped designed the tire uses DHR2 front and rear when racing so that tells you something.

@@LoveMTB if you're terrain dictates Dissectors, the DHR's will be the same but offer more grip and last longer. Use an Aggressor if your terrain isn't as aggressive

Excellent review, and great riding! I normally ride Assegai and DHF but I use the Dissector sometimes when I want a faster rolling speed. Where is that trail you're riding at btw? Looks fun!

@@LoveMTB Yeah I’m loving the Assegai. At first they were indeed slower rolling but I found that if I inflate them a tad bit more, it goes away and they start to feel closer to like a DHF. Aggressor out rear is also super fast. I see, I couldn’t tell the location from the scenery/environment. I ride mostly in SoCal and we barely have trees lol. Thanks again!

Love the content! I just installed a 29x2.4" dual compound EXO Maxxis dissector yesterday on my Devinci trail bike and have just one ride on it. It seemed nearly as grippy as the DHR II it replaced as a front tire. I would have liked the 3C version but it was not in stock. I'll have to watch out for that drift zone in the corners, similar to a DHF (which I'm not a fan of). I weighed the tire before installed it at 950 g which is about 20 g less than my 2.4" DHR II and 75 g less then the 2.5" DHF that came stock on the bike. I'm hoping it rolls faster than the either of the minions. I also recognized that wooden whale tail from Kelso having just rode it this week while visiting a friend in Milton.

@@LoveMTB I said I would let you know how I like the dissector so here goes: It rolls much easier than either of the 2 minions (DHF/DHR) I've had on the front of my bike before. I also don't notice much loss in cornering grip either, but I do see a bit less breaking traction compared to the DHR. To me this is a welcome trade-off for noticeably less rolling resistance. I can keep speed much better through rolling terrain.

Since its wider than my front DHF, I'm trying to decide between a wider DHF, a DHR2, or matching Dissector up front. Terrain is similar to your "greasy" example, but steeper, and looser on dry days.

I definitely can notice the difference in the rolling speed of the dissector compared to either minion (I found the DHR/DHF to be about the same). I'm onto my second dissector on the front of my trail bike which I'm now pairing with a Recon 2.4" in the back. This combo is super fast, but it does give up a bit of grip and braking compared to a DHR/DHF. My trails here never have more than a minute or 2 of sustained downhill, so lots of winch & drop style miles makes the rolling resistance all that more important.

I'm using this combination in smaller widths 2.4" dissector front and 2.3" aggressor back. Love the aggressor on the back but haven't had enough time on the dissector yet but fells pretty grippy so far close to DHR II.

First of all, thanks for a cool review as usually. My 5 cents here. I would never go front without Assegai or Magic Marry. But I still in search for good rear tyre. In final part you said that you would use it rear or front. But with combination of what? Did you have a chance to use it in wet conditions? Is it any good? How does self cleaning works? One more question: is exo+ so much heavierso you use exo? What is your weight? Thanks

@@LoveMTB Ok, So with your 74 kilos you run exo, and what tyre pressure? I think we just have a bit different mindset. I just don't care that much of how it pedals and care about how it goes downhill. So I run lower pressure and this is where DD shines. Anyway, I'm kinda convinced to give the dissector a try next time. But probably with DH casing. Thanks!

I weigh 75kgs but prefer a little more bulk since here is very rocky. I still have to try out the new tire though Btw: any issues with punctures on that side channel?

I’d definitely like it more if it was a little lighter. Rolls great but on any sustained climbing you start to feel the weight drag. Like the pattern and the volume too.

@@LoveMTB I like the grip but ended up going with Bonty XR4’s on my new Stumpjumper since weight was a goal with the build. 200 grams lighter per wheel feels a lot snappier on the climbs.

@@LoveMTB No not exactly. The Assegai might work as a snow tire, or so I hope. The Ikon is for summer when I mostly do road riding. Maxxis nakes good tires. I have tried other brands but I keep coming back to Maxxis. I would also like to try Dissectors front and rear at the same time.

I have one quick question. I drive all the time with the DHF 2.5 WT at the front and the High Roller 2 2.4 at the rear ... If I swap the rear tire for a Dissector, would the grip feel worst to compare side by side to the High Roller 2? the rolling speed is a plus in the case of a dissector, but I don't want to lose grip in various conditions like water, sand and mud that I give me High roller2 all the time ... I'm in a pinch what to choose the most versatile as a rear tire?

I'm running the DHR 29 x 2.6 front and Dissector 2.4 rear. Works well. The DHR 2.6 is more like 2.5 actual width.

I have this set up and like you I came from a DHR and Rekon. Dissector definitely gives more cornering grip with only a little rolling resistance penalty. I went with dual compound on the Dissector.

@@LoveMTB The assegai picks up stones everywhere and grips noticeably better than DHF. The dissector really rolls great, in comparison to DHR2 and has almost as good braking traction. Both are maxxterra with exo+ on the assegai and exo on the dissector.

Went from dhf dhr combo to dissector aggressor combo and it’s way faster,climbs better and don’t notice the channel on the front like I did on the dhf,definitely won’t be going back

@@LoveMTB The assegai is very good for loose, and maxxterra is what I'd stick with. The maxxgrip is slow in more situations than it's fast when you are mostly dealing with dirt.

@@josehurtado7822 . No he probado la Assegai, pero la DHR delante me gusta mas que la DHF Minion . Mejora mucho en frenada, y la transición en las curvas es mas predecible. En la DHF al empezar a tumbar notaba que habia como un vacio y que se iba la rueda, esa sensacion no la tengo en la DHR. Espero haberte ayudado

I have had a Few Wobbly tires Now .... USE LOTS Of Soapy Water On the Install and Pump up to like 60psi . Should be good .

I'm not a fan of Stan's. I really like Orange Seal sealant, but it's kinda pricy. I've got the Muck Off ordered, but it hasn't arrived yet.

Putting 2.4 Exo+ and 2.6 Exo Dissectors, both 3C Maxxterra - on my new short travel 29er. Not too concerned about weight, if they roll quickly. Hoping the 2.6 blows up closer to 2.5, for a well balanced look 👌 Should be out testing them in a couple of weeks (waiting on bike parts/bike to be built).

I have 29er with Dissector 2.6 Exo on the front, they measure tru to size 2.6, really surprised me. On the rear have Rekon 2.6 . Really fast set up.90% of riding is hard pack/ loose over hard pack.

@@LoveMTB Tires are ok... First ride down on them today (waiting for bike to be built up). Running 22 psi up front (according to my pump gauge). 29 psi out back. That empty transition zone between center tread and side knobs is interesting i.e. tire lets go and then grabs again. A little unnerving at first. Surprised how low I can run the 2.6. Will be better suited to my local trails once things start drying out. One month of Winter left and then Spring 🤘 Tires + rider will be happier then.

@@LoveMTB Update... The 2.6 has spent the majority of its life, up front on my AM HT. Heading into Winter now, Assegai has tagged in up front on HT. Haven't ridden the Dissection outback at all. I mulleted the short travel 29er. Tire has sat on rear, unused 29” rear wheel. As said earlier, we're heading into Winter down under, so the 2.4 Dissector has found new purpose on the back of HT. Good self cleaning & solid braking performance 🤘

Used to run a dissector on the rear of my enduro bike. It wore out so fast, it was almost like the tire melted. Didn't even last me a whole season.

@@LoveMTB it was a dh casing in Maxxgrip compound, so that definitely played a big part in it, but even then I'd have expected it to last longer than it did. I've also heard many other reports of the dissector wearing really fast

I ride Dissector front and rear and love climbing but I would like to try another rear tire that allows me to climb even more comfortably without sacrificing traction on steep hills. any other different option in rear that scales even better than Dissector? Thank you!

Experiment with psi. I find that it really changes the ride characteristic very much, not just climbing, but rolling speed, grip, plushness, etc. DHR is the ultimate climber in my opinion but it is extremely draggy compared to the Dissector. Happy riding!

Thank you! very grateful, I will try to climb experimenting with the Psi since I usually ride with medium-high Psi and maybe I think it is my problem since I am also a little heavy rider. Another question is whether to change Dissector front for Dhr2 in front or Rekon in front and leave Dissector behind.

@@refo1977 I've had experience with Rekons, in my experience they are not as grippy or reliable and at the same time not as fast so I've ditched them entirely. My Scott Spark came with Rekons stock and I eventually drifted away from them, I think either the Dissector or Aggressor outperforms them for my purposes. Rekon is not fast or grippy in my opinion, I'm done with those. Assegai I think is extremely grippy and I think a tad less draggy than DHR up front. Also another consideration is the casing. I only run Exo+, I find the offer a bit more compliance/squish. Double down is overkill for my purposes in terms of weight. My buddy rides a High Roller II, I haven't tried that yet but it's worth a look. Lastly, tire width also plays a part. The wider the tire, the more grip, so that's a consideration. The rear-oriented. tires (Dissector, DHR) only come in 2.4 or 2.6, a 2.5 DHR would be killer. Happy Riding to you my friend! I always try to list my tire setup in all my videos so if you watch my channel it might help, I change tires frequently. Exo+ all the way for me, even minor thorns were piercing my Exo tires.

@@refo1977 For overall climbing and pedaling the Aggressor in back is very fast and pedal-friendly but tends to spin out on loose or rocky climbs. Rear Aggressor makes any front tire feel fast in my experience. Worth a try.

All Maxxis tires have gotten MUCH heavier lately. EX: my last Minion DHR 2.6 = 855. Just got a new one and it's weight = 1050. For the EXACT same tire. +200g.

thats way too narrow. Wide Trail (WT) are optimized for 30-35mm inner rim widths.

I hate the channel on the DHF. The bike fall brutally on dry fast flat cornering and side knobs are looseness in this situation. Assegai is more more better for me in any situation except wet. Have the Dissector the same feeling than the DHF?

3:19 I would just add that there is a max pressure for the tire, but there is also a max pressure for the rim. In this case, though the max pressure for the tire is 50 psi, according to the DT Swiss site, the max pressure for the rim itself - with this tire at an ETRTO of 61- 622 - the max pressure is around 44 psi. Some rims, particularly wider ones, may be lower, and it's lower as the tire width goes up as well. The 2.6" on this rim has a max pressure closer to 40 psi. Complying with the lower of the two pressures may prevent blowing the tire off the rim while waiting overnight for the tire to stretch. I certainly wouldn't panic over it, but it's something to consider. On a separate note, I'm using the Dissector rear with the Assegai front and like the combo. The Dissector is wearing a bit much, though (29x2.4 WT in DC). As far as braking is concerned, it's not quite at the DHRII level, for sure, but the vast majority of my braking is on the front tire. Decelerating on steep terrain does that! They roll quite well. I've timed my climbs, usually over the course of over 1000' of climbing, and they are considerably faster/less drag than DHRII's!

Im not a fan of wide channels in the front. Unpredictable cornering for me. My former bike had dhf front. Switch to dhr after a month. Now both of my bikes have dhrs.

@@LoveMTB it's when you go to aggressively hit a berm the side knobs don't transition well. So it it kinda slides into its grip and some time outright drifts. On the front I've yet to run it so can't say I'm interested in seeing how it does there
