Let's explore the fascinating world of retro computing! As I unveil my passion project - the RetroMelsArchive! 🚀
In this video, I'll walk you through the genesis of this archive, born out of my love for collecting and using vintage computers like the Commodore 128 and PC10 III. With these old gems, the real fun lies in utilizing software, whether on cassette tapes or floppy disks. But as physical media ages, preserving this software becomes crucial.
That's where the RetroMelsArchive comes in! 🌟 Discover a treasure trove of software organised by era - from the '70s to the '90s, including a dedicated section for MS-DOS. Dive into Commodore PET programs, TRS-80 MC 10 tapes, MZ700 cassettes, Commodore 64 floppies, and more!
But it's not just about hoarding files. I've curated explainer videos to guide you through loading these programs into emulators, ensuring accessibility for all retro enthusiasts. And with plans to digitize rare books, HCC Home Computer Club magazines, and more, the RetroMelsArchive is a haven for preserving Dutch software heritage too! 🇳🇱
Join me in this mission to digitize history, one byte at a time! Click the link below to explore the RetroMelsArchive and unlock a world of vintage computing nostalgia. Don't forget to subscribe for updates and stay tuned for more archiving adventures! 🎉 #RetroComputing #VintageTech #PreserveThePast"

Very good to see someone actively archiving this vintage software. I fear that so much is being lost due to age and media deterioration. I have a box full of shareware from the 1980's for the Apple II on 5.25" floppy diskettes that are no longer readable. This was true "shareware" that was free to share with your friends. I suspect that the diskettes were not good quality. I would look forward to your future videos about how to archive, which I presume will include both hardware and software. An open project for me is to try different adapters to read 5.25" floppies with a drive connected to a "modern" PC through USB, a parallel port or a parallel port USB adapter.

thank you for doing this. so easy for the past to slip away. and it is ok there are other sources. redundancy is key in backups!

Great work. I would like to watch more retro related stuff, hardware and software from you. You have beautiful presentation and a soothing voice. Retro computers without so much music and noise makes it a very relaxing experience.

Mental deficiency, uhm I tend to refer to it as being a big amateur most of the time…
