There is a very distinguished maker of kimono in Japan- perhaps the most vertically integrated of such companies as they even make their own silk- which still uses an MZ-80K to run their CNC looms.

The Sharp MZ-80* systems are simply stunning, congrats on finding such a nice one! I've got a couple of Sharp CZ-801C's and they are sort of a MZ-80 without the monitor (which I'm fine with, I have plenty of monitors as it is around here). And thanks for your archiving efforts!

CRT’s have a tendency to pile up around you, I know from experience. People asking “do you really need so many?” The answer to people like us being: ofcourse. Cool to hear about the CZ-801C’s! First time I did, look like lovely machines! Thanks for your comment!

@@RetroMels While window shopping for other Sharp computers, I came across a lovely, working, SHARP MZ-731 and I couldn't help myself. It's on its way from Japan as we speak. :) Now I just have to get the OS on tape for it and the CZ-801C's. BTW, Amazon still has some copies of the Sargon book, circa 1978. Act now, only $88 while supplies last! :)

Oeh cool! Be sure to remove the RIFA cap ( I believe it is one) from the powersupply. I learned the hard way that they are inside haha. Enjoy your 731! Don't want to push my Archive but there you can find a 731 compatible Basic tape, which might come in handy. Good to know about the sargon book!

@@RetroMels Oh yeah, I'm well aware of *that*. :) I took a quick look at your archive, but now I need to go back for the tapes. Thanks! BTW, have you seen the PicoRAM6116? It replaces the RAM and allows you to write directly to the RAM while the machine is on. I'm in the process of building one for my E&L MT-80Z trainer (which is kinda/sorta a MPF-I clone). And I will see about building them for bigger machines (the PicoRAM6116 being designed for a whopping 2k). No need for tapes. :)

BTW there is a very good reason they wanted so much for that Fisher-Rosemount WS30 version of a VAXstation 4000. It is because it is for controlling a robot. There is almost no ceiling for the amount of money some companies are willing to spend to keep such equipment running.

Good one! Did not think about that.

I kick started my career with an MZ-80K, and spent way too much money on the Peripheral Add On and Dual Floppy drives. Sadly, I threw it away when the PSU blew a fuse after not being used for 10 years. Also being interested in Photography, I wrote machine code for it to time colour processing, taking into account temperature of the tank. The Basic on the machine was too slow to capture time and act on it. Only snag was preventing any light escaping the machine.

Wait you got a counter offer on eBay!????? All my offers just seem to get timed out which is really annoying and frustrating it makes me wonder why they even have a make an offer button and it's not even like rare stuff it's like stuff from China/ anywhere anything.

Agreed if they have the make offer button they should be at least responding/counter-offering… 😁
