The 4/25C was one of the first laptops on the market to have an active-matrix colour display. I had two of them at one time- one of them was converted from a 4/25E monochrome model just by dropping in the display from a dead 4/33C.

Nice video. Coax is difficult, its also used for normal cable tv, so you need to switch cables. I once had a switch for this, to switch between tv and console, but thats probably "lost in time"". But why not used the video poort on the C-64, and connect that to de scart ? And please buy a new power supply unit (psu). On this old models the 5v circuit wil rise over 9v, and will fry some internals of the C=64. They are called "bricks of death".

Thanks! Old video haha, these days I use a new power brick and have a video cable that can be connected to the video port. Video was more for new retro folks like me to show how RF is setup. Because before I had a C64 I wasn’t aware of how it worked and thought my C64 was broken haha…

There is a very distinguished maker of kimono in Japan- perhaps the most vertically integrated of such companies as they even make their own silk- which still uses an MZ-80K to run their CNC looms.

BTW there is a very good reason they wanted so much for that Fisher-Rosemount WS30 version of a VAXstation 4000. It is because it is for controlling a robot. There is almost no ceiling for the amount of money some companies are willing to spend to keep such equipment running.

U-matic, even in its SP version, wasn't as good a format as the later Betacam, primarlily because it records the colour signal under the video track rather than in a separate track, and it was composite colour rather than Y/C in Betacam or YUV in Betacam SP. Recording colour under the video track makes the format more susceptible to colour fade, especially as subsequent copies are made.

The "swedish version of Ebay" is called Tradera and were actually owned by Ebay until the Ebay/Palpay split up in 2015 when Tradera went with Paypal. I wonder if there are other national platforms like Marktplaats and Tradera in the western world that has kept Ebay at... bay... in their country.

When I was at secondary school we had two of these in the computer studies classroom - the only computers in the whole school. We still did our homework on punched cards, and sent them to the university to be run on their mainframe. The PET was an amazing glimpse of the future, and I spent many hours after school in the computer studies room with a few other guys (yes, all guys!) trying to get these machines to do fun things! I'd love to own one. BTW, it was 1982 when I was in that computer studies class - I feel so old now!

I don't think there's anything cuter than a Dutch-English accent. It sounds so cool :D But regarding the video: The reason the transformers are so encrusted is that they weren't properly shielded back then. The electromagnetic charge attracts dust, and that's always a recipe for thick layers of stuck-on dust. I'm sure there will eventually be IT archaeologists who can read the past from the dust layers on EM devices :D

I kick started my career with an MZ-80K, and spent way too much money on the Peripheral Add On and Dual Floppy drives. Sadly, I threw it away when the PSU blew a fuse after not being used for 10 years. Also being interested in Photography, I wrote machine code for it to time colour processing, taking into account temperature of the tank. The Basic on the machine was too slow to capture time and act on it. Only snag was preventing any light escaping the machine.

POKE(T,64-T) or POKE(T,(64-T)). Like someone else commented, i don't know why NEXT: is at the start of that line either. That NEXT must be for an earlier FOR:NEXT loop. The FOR command in line 140 maybe should be on its own line (141 would do). The loop starts at FOR and subsequent lines are executed until it gets to a NEXT statement, then it loops back to the FOR again and continues. The problem could be that the FOR is the second statement on that line, so moving it to its own line would make more sense. I never used this version of BASIC, but different versions are similar. Ok, question. Why do you route the program audio through a cassette player? Why not just go from your modern computer to your vintage computer with a (mono) 3.5mm to 3.5mm lead? Nice video, but the way.
@RetroMels
@RetroMels 3 месяца назад
That is a good question! Should have adressed that. I found that using a direct lead (when I tried it) was a bit more unreliable then when I used the cassette adapters. Also thought that using a bluetooth adapter would allow for people to use there phone or tablet. I’m aware of the big downside to using the adapters is people not having a player, but felt sort of safe assuming people that own a colour computer also own a cassette player. A little upside is that players with seized up belts should still work using this method. But now I’m thinking it would’t hurt to look into the direct lead option again! Thanks for the helpful Basic program advice!

@@RetroMels I've got a BBC Model B. 80s computers tend to like the tinny sound of shoebox cassette players. However, I'm into Minidisc and I once experimented and recorded a program from my PC to Minidisc, and then loaded the program from Minidisc to my BBC Model B. It worked like a charm. I might archive all my tapes to Minidisc too, for that physical-media feel and load-times, but with random access to each program.

Hmm. I was in vintage computers when they weren't vintage at all but I'm surprised that they appear to be in no way cheaper nowadays. Which is ridiculous considered they're so primitive literally everybody could design such an apparatus from scratch. PS. What do you think about the German "sibling" of Marktplaats called Kleinanzeigen (both are actually owned by Adevinta)?
@RetroMels
@RetroMels 3 месяца назад
Only thing with the computer prices I show from back in the day is that they are in a different currency then we use now. I believe the easiest way to sort of convert it to euro’s is to divide it by 2. Never heard of Kleinanzeigen sounds interesting I’ll look into that one! Thanks!💪

I also like to collect vintage staff. Lately, I've been addicted to collecting old Casio calculators, I particularly like the scientific ones those seventies models that utilize VFD screens and old-school quality keyboards and finesse. I cannot stop shopping. It has a psychotherapeutic effect on me and I always find new items to expand my consumption mania and collect like a hoarder... Limited availability of space and my raging wife are the most substantial problems!

My Sharp 1260 still is on the shelf right of me. I remember, when a friend found a book of advanced stuff and internals on them, in 1991. At that time, these computers were so simple, you could work on register level, say PEEK/POKE, if you had the docs.
