Hello and welcome to another edition of SUMO PRIME TIME. Once again, I’d like to extend my heartfelt appreciation for tuning into the channel that offers in-depth coverage of Japan’s national sport. As we witnessed, the May Sumo Tournament turned into another wild and exciting competition, with the new Komusubi Onosato capturing his first Emperor’s Cup. The road to victory wasn’t as easy as it sounds for Onosato. Find out how he was able to overcome adversities and achieve the biggest triumph of his life. And, for those who can’t wait until the next grand tournament, make sure to join us during the entire month of June, as we’ll bring you more updates and features on wrestlers to get you fully ready for the July battle in Nagoya. Arigato and see you again soon!
I had to rewatch that match in slow motion about five times before I could begin to comprehend how Hoshoryu pulled that one off. Absolutely amazing technique on his end. The way he rotated his hips to get into throwing position was unlike anything I have ever seen!
I’m a new fan, and May was my first time watching a full tournament. Onosato, Kotozakura, Hoshoryu, and Takayasu really stood out to me. Looking forward to (hopefully!) seeing Terunofuji and Takerufuji in July
It’s good to watch this again. He is a remarkable young man. The July and September Bashos are now complete. The energy from May is still evident. I can’t wait for November.
I came across Onosato for the first time at the last New Year tournament and straight away he became my favourite sumo wrestler. I just love the big fellows energy and he just comes across as a really good man. Wishing Onosato the absolute very best , good health and happiness , to him and his loved ones. 🙏❤ (Thank you @sumoprimetime for your wonderful Sumo content 🙏❤) Sending you best wishes from Scotland .
I think this next year will see some big changes with how much the current Oseki are underperforming. New rikishi with a greater hunger will lead to a changing of the guard at the top ranks.
I tried to keep up on the May tournament, but NHK and the JSA keep going after the NattoSumo channel on RU-vid and Rumble. Their daily summations of matches the top 3 divisions was a great tool for Ozumo fans outside of Japan. Instead of shutting down NattoSumo NHK and the JSA should hire him/her.
See you in September, my friends. It will be a long journey from Brazil to Kokugikan, but I know it will be worth it. If somebody has a tip on where to buy tickets for the second week of the tournament, I would appreciate it a lot. Thanks for another great piece of content and "Sayonara!"
Unfortunately it's probably because of the fact that there is no other yokozuna right now and there doesn't seem to be anyone within reach of that title among the current ozeki
It is soon Onosato and Takerufuji’s time if they stay healthy. Kotozakura and Hoshoryu better win some Tournaments and become Yokozuna before the young ones get really good.
It's because his hair is not long enough for the ginko leaf that the other rikishi have. This is his first tournament with a top knot at all! It was exciting to see.
I’m a new fan of sumo, and your comment excites me for the future. Had a great time watching the May tournament. Onosato, Kotozakura, Hoshoryu, and Takayasu stood out to me. I’m looking forward to seeing Terunofuji and Takerufuji healthy. It’s unfortunate, though, that I’m getting into the sport right after Hakuho’s retirement…
@@smittywerbenjagermanjensen320 thanks for your emulation mate :) As an "elder" in sumo (i guess since 15+years) this year is quite unique. The emergence of many good prospects and the end of an alpha dog can be very exciting. Who will be the true heir? we'll see. but clearly there is a gap to approach excellence that we saw in this millennia.
its been like that for like 5 years. none of the guys that have got to ozeki have done well at all. kotozakura looks the most promising and even he hasnt been fantastic
