Awesome wrap-up, Jen!! I really want to give the Barsetshire Chronicles a try. I've heard great things about P.G. Wodehouse, haven't read anything by him yet. I adore the Little House books! The Amazing Mrs. Pollifax was just wonderful, I'm sooo so glad we both loved it!!!

I'm currently doing a re-read of the Little House Books too. They are bringing back all the childhood reading memories! I just picked up the first two Mrs. Pollifax books recently (mentioned in my latest book haul video in which you get a shout out!) and am looking forward to reading them. They sound like so much fun!

I think it's good to read Angela Thirkell's barsetshire series in order because characters reappear and develop, and you can get spoilers if you read them out of order. For example, Summer Half and Cheerfulness Breaks In have many of the same characters. So far, I haven't rated any in the series less than 3 stars, and mostly, they're 4-5 star reads for me.

Thanks Jen. You give good reviews. Yes, I do DNF and do not feel bad if I do. Too many good books out there. Haven't been reading since my sister died. Want to, but can't. Prior to that I read a very wierd, very small ( maybe 4x5?) bk I found wandering through the library. " An Elderly Lady Is Up To No Good". Had seen it advertised in the Bas Bleu catalog numerous times. I was moving g bks. on a shelf and it fell out (so small). So I checked it out. It was a collection of murders all done by this elderly woman. Wierd, unsettling. The first one wasn't so bad even though it showed she was diabolical. Each one got worse, but the last was the grossest. She kept the corpse in her apt. living there w/ her for over a month? Shld. have DNF'd it, don't know why I didn't. I think it may have been possesed???? Still can't get it out of my mind. Have a good week end.

DNF'ing is becoming part of my reading journey - I have too many books and if it's not peaking my interest I need to not feel guilty about dropping it. I finished Rose Cottage in a couple days - enjoyed it and looking forward to my next Mary Stewart read. have a great weekend! Jacqueline

Hi Jen! Thanks for this video. I’m going to check out Laurie Colwin and Jane Harper. It’s so cool that you were in Cards on the Table! Glad you enjoyed Mrs. Pollifax! I’m on book two; I read the first one last August and loved it! My mother had stacks of Dorothy Gilman books on her bedside table for years, and got such a big kick out of them! 😊

Thank you for giving us the heads up about Mothering Sunday. I am one of those who likes to read closed door romances when romance is in the story. It's sad to hear the book is like that with that sweet title. I can't wait to dive into the Little House on the Prairie series. That show always seem to make me tear up. The Amazing Mrs. Pollifax sounds so interesting and way more adventurous than me. 😂 I dnf books and try to be more intentional with my time since I've gotten older. I used to power through as well though. Thank you for sharing. I always enjoy your videos.

Thank you for talking about more authors that I have not read-except for Jane Harper. I really enjoyed reading Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt and the Truth About the Devlins by Lisa Scottoline. And I am currently reading Maisie Dobbs, thanks to your recommendation. I see that this series is going to end right when I am beginning it! But I am glad that Jacqueline Winspear has started a different series following life after WWII.

You had a good month! Love Mrs Pollifax!! My May was very good! I read 13 books, the best being To The Hilt by Dick Francis and Innocent In Death by Robb. No DNFs this month, but I am getting better at quitting books that are just not my cup of tea. Enjoy your reads!

I'm very good at DNFing if I don't like a book, except if it's a part of a project. There are too many good books out there to be wasting time on the bad ones 😜

Dear Jen, two stand alone P.G. Wodehouse books I really enjoyed and you might like are The Girl on The Boat and French Leave. Also, I too liked Arranged Marriage by Chitra Divakaruni but my favorite of her books is Sister of My Heart.

I'm almost finished reading the full Barsetshire series. I think I just have three books to go! I think the pre-war and WWII books in the series are the best ones. My favorites are Summer Half, August Folly, The Headmistress, and Peace Breaks Out. I think reading the series in order is helpful because characters are always popping back up the further you read. Yay for Emma M Lion!

Oh Jen, I'm so sorry about "Mothering Sunday" since you were so looking forward to it (I think it was a gift?). Right now, I'm reading our Book Club pick "This Tender Land" by William Kent Krueger, super boring cover and the cover says it's about 3 orphans in a canoe riding down the Gilead River in 1932 (yawn...) and I was not looking forward to it.... Super Read! I'm almost finished and I'm going to rate it a 4.5. Trigger warning re: child abuse Terrific wrap up as usual!

There has to be better ballet books out there -- hopefully you'll get some good recommendations from this community! 🙂 My favorite reads in May were both memoirs and both on audio: Barbra Streisand's and Whoopi Goldberg's new one.

I want to read (well, listen) to the Streisand memoir but it’s a time commitment! I didn’t know Whoopi Goldberg had a memoir out - I’ll have to look for that one!

Hi Jen, I have a question about two series. Do you think the Lord Whimsey books and the Miss Polifax series need to be read in order? I am wondering if I could start with Strong Poison since it is so good and then go back to the first ones later. We’re the first two good also? I have collected all the Angela Thirkell books and I am very slowly reading through them. Some were definitely better than others but I am so sorry that I can’t really remember which ones were the best. I remember the funny parts but not which ones they were in. And that is because I only like to read her writing every so often. It is just a bit slower or harder but definitely worth it! I should have made some notes on them!! 😮 Thank you.😊

Bummer about White Swan, Black Swan. Can you recommend good ballet/dance themed books? 🩰

Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfeild is wonderful if you want a classic children’s book. I really loved Hester’s Story by Adele Geras which I never hear talked about. If you like nonfiction, Gelsey Kirkland’s memoir, Dancing on My Grave is excellent!
@MJ-in-Canada

I’m pleased to hear that you’re getting on with the “Blandings” series. Wodehouse never fails to make me chuckle.😀 Have you read “Swan Dive: The Makings of a Rogue Ballerina” (2021)? 🩰It’s Georgina Pazcoguin’s gritty but fascinating memoir of life with a ballet company. One the highlights of my May reading month was “I Hope This Finds You Well” by Natalie Sue (2024) in which a Canadian office worker named Joleen accidentally gains access to the emails of her colleagues. If you’ve ever worked in an office, you’ll recognize yourself and/or your colleagues, and you’ll have a laugh.
