Must try harder - less likes and some dislikes with the XJ40 video and I don't think it was the car letting the side down! I hope this video featuring my Jaguar X-356 XJ6 Sovereign meets with better approval. All constructive feedback and suggesions are welcomed in the comments section below. This is a hobby/interest channel so I know that there is plenty of room for improvement: every day is a learning day for sure. First confession: the footage for this video was shot across multiple days. The first day captured some drone footage and I had intended to include some GoPro camera action, but the battery decided to discharge fully between leaving home and arriving at the shoot location. A replacement battery has been procured. Subsequently more GoPro and Drone footage has been captured from a different location, so every cloud and all that! Thare are no overlaid video clips in this video - just some images to hopefully provide additional context for some of the commentary. I've included introduction and conclusion footage with a sensible microphone this time. If you enjoyed some (or all!) of the video, please consider liking and subscribing.

I have the X358 diesel. A fabulous car, I think the revised styling improves the looks visually lengthening the car and reducing the perceived roof height. I had a Daimler Xj40 and would agree that it did the gliding thing better, but this is probably down to the much larger low profile tyres, the XJ40 wouldn't know which way the X358 went on a twisty road. A remapped 2.7 provides an additional 54bhp and has a monstrous 400lb ft torque.

The 2.7 unit (especially remapped) is very good! I nearly bought a low mileage X358 but the X356 was the better example. I run the XJ40 on Avon tyres - really seem to suit it.

Love my 05 XJ6 sovereign, 73k on the clock FSH and drives like a dream, best car I ever owned. I would however never have a diesel

The diesel is pretty refined but will never be as smooth as the V6 or V8 petrol.

These are only going up in value. In fifteen years they will be worth more than they cost new.

Never ever buy a Jaguar with a Diesel engine, never! Straight six, V8 or V12. Anything else is NO Jaguar. It's a a no go.

I think it was an important additional to Jaguar's engine line-up at the time. BMW and Mercedes all had mature diesel engine offerings. There are quite a few 2.7d S Types and XJ's in the UK. The 3.0d seemed popular in the XF too. The engine is not without it's problems though - especially if used only for shorter journeys. I still get 40 - 45 mpg on a good run. As much as I love my 4.0 AJ6 and 5.3 V12, they can't complete with that on long work trips. That all said, the red service light has just come all of a sudden on so maybe I'll change my opinion post garage visit.

The 2.7TDVi is a superb engine, as used in the Citroen C6 and other large luxury cars.

Don’t forget the petrol 3.0 V6 of the X350 XJ6. Personally, I wouldn’t dream of buying a diesel powered Jaguar, either. But each to their own, I suppose. The most important thing is that people keep buying Jags regardless of what’s under the bonnet.
