My daughter was diagnosed at age 3 with leukemia. The nurses used to say “we need to get some kool aid from your noodle” when referring to her port and blood draws. She shut them up really fast with a perplexed look and said “you do realize that’s not look aid right” 😂 She learned to say “vincristine” and all other big names of her meds. She knew which ones came at what time over the years and knew what the side effects were. You are 100% correct that children are VERY aware of everything. Even toddlers. My daughter is now 10 and she has NEVER said “I have an owie” and she got sedation weekly for spinal chemo. She would literally say “can I get my sedation so I can eat now”. So yeah kids do say that. Go into any cancer clinic where kids are waiting for sedation. This nurse must not have worked around critically sick kids for very long.

My niece just went through the same thing this year. She couldn't sit, walk or get comfortable. She uses mmj for chronic pain therefore they would not give her any pain meds. Mmj is not the appropriate treatment for anal abscesses. She cried herself to sleep every night only to wake up a few hours later. She is not a pill popper & prefers the natural approach. This was too much for her & she still had to work through it. Smh. Because she uses mmj, she's considered an addict. We have 6 people in our family with EDS or mixed connective tissue disorders. Possibly reason for her chronic pain & the abscess.

@americangirl6582 that's insane I don't know what mmj is I'm guessing medicinal Mary Jane. In any event an abcess needs immediate surgery. To think she was denied medication and had to work with it is in my mind torture. Tell her to take care those horrid things come back 50 percent of time.

If a child has been receiving pain management, it doesn’t make them an “addict” to have developed a dependency. Anyone who is on pain medication for an extended period of time will develop a dependency.. if you haven’t had the medication your body will go through withdrawl. That doesn’t make it abusive or the wrong protocol. That’s like saying a child with some painful form of cancer, or who was severely burned has been taking pain medication, gone a few days without it and then say they need it. Yes their body will feel like it needs it, but that doesn’t mean giving them the medication is bad. It’s not like she’s some addict trying to get high for fun. She’s in pain and wants to be out of pain. Even more than that she DESERVES to be out of pain. No one especially a child should be forced to live in pain because doctors have hang ups about dependency.

Dr. Hanna in his deposition said he prescribed oral ketamine daily but Beata injected it herself (!!!) into a central port every 4 hours, which made him extremely uncomfortable and he refused to prescribe further. Same guy attested despite being in the wheelchair Maya had full use of her legs. There was a WHOLE OTHER HOSPITAL in Tampa where Maya was for a month that also reported her to CPS and videotaped her and came to the same diagnosis of MBP and recommended she is separated from mother. By the time of JH admission Maya didn't eat for 5 days, and when she asked for food in the ED Beata got mad. It was documented Maya stated her mom was withholding food from her. Over the course of involuntary hospitalization she gained a lot of weight and overcame malnutrition. Jack himself said in his deposition Maya was never in pain when she was with him, but the moment Beata would show up the girl was having pain. She also put Maya in a wheelchair and put diapers on her despite Maya being fully functional and being able to use bathroom and shower. The timeline is absurd, and the documentary clearly tried to muddy the waters on purpose. In reality the "symptoms" started only 2.5 months before they flew to Mexico to put Maya in coma. They absolutely weren't looking for other opinions, they absolutely didn't give the standard of care CRPS treatments a go. In Mexico Maya had a fungal pneumonia and other complications of her "treatment", and then they continued going to Mexico for additional "treatments" afterwards despite the child suffering serious medical harm which was not shown at all. Beata was also accused of prescription fraud by multiple doctors under oath saying they didn't prescribe however much she was filling. Also she filled a prescription for an enormous amount of ketamine 22 days into Maya's hospital stay, when she was already under court's extreme scrutiny. At the time of death she had an IV in place, which was also conveniently not shown. It is entirely possible she was using the drugs herself. After Beata's death a blog was discovered of Beata posing as Maya (!!!), detailing all the treatments and getting online attention. Jack did not know this. There were also 2 gofundmes she set up for her "terminally ill" daughter.

She was completely judgmental forming her own opinion that Maya was faking her pain! She's one of those nurses that thinks her years in the hospital make her a doctor but, she's just a nurse! It's astonishing that so many people at that hospital came together to punish the mother and daughter because they were challenge by a family that understood their daughter's diagnosis better than them! Maya was in excruciating pain and understood that "sedation" took the pain away. Her mother was distraught knowing her daughter was in so much pain! Haven't seen one person get up there and show any remorse for the destruction they cause!

All the abuse of drugs on the street has made it very difficult for those who have chronic pain. I had three surgeries on by back in three days. The Doctor damaged my sciatic nerve. I now have 24/7 pain going down my leg to my feet. It can get unbelievably painful. My right foot feels like it’s sitting in ice water and I can’t take it out. This has developed into Arachnoiditis. Specialist say, if any doctor thinks about not giving a patient meds with this infliction, forget it, it’s just being cruel. It’s either meds or I lie in bed and cry. My life would be impossible if I didn’t have some slight relief from such intense pain. Honestly I’de rather die. The crap our system puts valid pain patients through is pathetic and so unnerving. When you have been in pain for a while, it takes more medication to get it under control. Every nurse/ doc knows that. CRPS doesnt respond to regular opiods. Intense chronic pain causes the adrenals to release more epinephrine & norepinephrine. You go into fight or flight mode. Fighting includes yelling, shouting, cursing, kicking & punching. It is very fatiguing & a natural expected response from someone who has been in pain for a long duration. When the threat isn't removed, you resort to flight or freeze. You withdrawal & quit fighting. You can become hopeless especially when those who can help dont. Since the war on opiates (which stats prove people in chronic pain do not overdose as often as street drugs) hospitals look at everyone as drug seekers which is BS. The war on opiates has hurt those who suffer with chronic pain. The druggies have no problem getting theres. This person who is on your show has no clue what she is talking about & the hospital was wrong to not treat her crps... Sorry. NOT SORRY! The stupidity & ignorance is undeniable. Thats our medical industrial complex! Profits over people.

In and out of it I would wake up to my hands tied to the bed and had bruises all over. I told them I wasn't violent but apparently when I was out of it, I was doing the actions you stated and even pulled my intubation tube out but don't remember a thing. They were too busy treating me like a drug addict just going through withdrawal that it was 2 weeks before they realized I was actually sick and dying. Hospital told my mom to take me home and give me meds to keep me comfortable and die. She refused. Surgeon came in from another hospital and saved my life by doing the surgery but my body wouldn't stop bleeding. Again the surgeon told my family to come say their goodbyes. I slept for 2 weeks after surgery, my body stopped bleeding. The surgeon said it was a miracle. I had to learn how to walk again and gain strength back and to also stay clean. The 2nd hospital saved my life. The 1st hospital judged me and treated me like garbage.

This mom was from another country and there was a clear language dialect and cultural difference. Then you have a child that was very eccentric almost to the point of a genius level, a child that could communicate at a level that surprised adults. We often don’t understand those that are different from us and we are so quick to judge. I truly believe this was a case like none of these professionals had seen before yet because the mom was educated in the medical field that had learned she had to navigate the health system by being her child’s advocate.

I'm shocked with this reporting. The nurse was not credible, this coming from a nurse. Out of all the "astonishing" things she supposedly saw, heard, and experienced her other charting of all these stories wasn't in the chart. The lady you had accusing Maya of being addicted to Ketamine is an idiot. This was not damning testimony. She said you don't chart these things. Her boxes she checked were not correct. She just follows doctors orders and doesn't deal with the diagnoses. She didnt free text 98% of what she testified to. Then she couldn't recall anything else that may have gone against her case. Get a better person next time or do some critical thinking about the entire testimony.
@basicallyno1722
@basicallyno1722 11 месяцев назад
One minute, she talks about not having a camera....but then we have the whole portion from the defense about Maya being recorded for her safety. And her talk about the charting is incorrect. You also chart for future medical records and learn that in entry-level medical fields youre telling the patient's story. You also understand that these records can always be summoned in court, so "if you didn't chart, it didn't happen." If she was expected of psychological issues, you would chart the "astonishing" behavior shed "never seen anyone do before." Also,....10 year olds saying they have "owies." Get real.

If a 10 year old (almost high school age in the UK) says they have an ‘owie’ then they should be considered as being far behind an acceptable language level for their age. On top of that, if you’re an intelligent 10 year old who is familiar with various medical treatments through having ongoing medical issues, I don’t think it’d be an unusual for them to KNOW that sedation means feeling better, thus asking for sedation specially. 1:04 it’s absolutely crap- of course Maya said it- she’s been in hospitals and around Drs enough to know what to ask for- also if anyone has watched the documentary they will immediately recognize that Maya is extremely intelligent and educated and well spoken… she’s incredibly mature so I highly doubt she would say “ I have an Owey” any nurse who spent 5 minutes with her would notice how well spoken she is and would ask for sedation instead of saying she has an “ owey” toddlers would say that! The fact is all these “ experts “ made an assumption immediately based on Beata’s behavior- she’s Polish, very direct, English is her second language, she’s a highly trained nurse and also just happens to advocate for Maya in a slightly aggressive manner- none of that should have led to what happened…. I absolutely can see how the medical staff was turned off by Beata- in the documentary the recordings of Beata talking to the medical staff with Jack in the background begging her to stop! It’s all very clear to see what happened but that doesn’t mean any of this tragedy was deserved….medical doctors are so quick to judge patients who know how to advocate for themselves… I have chronic pain with flair ups and i have to be so careful when I go to the ER not to be too specific and say “ I need 4 mgs of iv dilaudid!” Even though I know it helps if I directly say that I’m an addict- I have to play the game of trying lesser meds and wasting time until they eventually offer the drug I said would help in the first place….
