Heated exchange in 'Take Care of Maya' trial 

Maya wasn't an abused child when she entered the hospital but she was when she left.

She put an innocent dad in jail for 8 months because of her reports. The man was thankfully found completely innocent but the fact that he spent 8 months in jail… This lady is a monster.

As a physician, I was so pleased this family found justice. Arrogant physicians like Dr. Smith and the administrators of John Hopkins Hospital are a disgrace to the medical establishment.

PLEASE tell me that she is going to be charged criminally for this!! If she gets away with this without serving many years behind bars, it'll be an absolute travesty!!

The fact that she’s not acknowledging the she messed up, is the highest form of narcissism. No accountability is absolutely shameful.

She’s a disgrace! She didn’t put Maya’s medical history in her report because it didn’t fit her personal narrative. I feel so sorry for the families that she’s put through hell.

She is basically saying that it is her job to make sure that the parent is guilty. That's what she's saying. She has to make the evidence support the narrative.

This lady should be criminally charged and sentenced for life. She has ruined the life of many many people and should not be walking freely. She has to be held accountable.

The fact the she can laugh, giggle, smirk or downplay any question during her testimony tells you everything you need to know about her character and actions.

This woman is pure evil. She controls the system and knows what she is doing. How she does not go to jail for this is beyond me. That family will never be the same after what she did to them.

She went ABOVE the physicians diagnosis of child having CRPS? I’m floored! She should be in jail.

This is terrifying! I wonder how many parents, grandparents, etc are hesitant to take their children in because of fear that some person like this or cps will get involved and take their children from them. I feel so bad for this family and other families that go through such torment.

Nah. She wanted there to be child abuse, so she ignored Mayas Dr's and made the evidence fit. This woman is dangerous.

This is the attitude of someone who knows they're untouchable.

If you watch the documentary, you learned that this hospital has a repeated history of what they did to Maya to other children and their parents and all of them had the same situation because of this woman. It was even advised by locals to not take their children to that hospital, and even other doctors were advising this to parents, because they were aware of her and her constant cry for a wolf and ruining families.

Her testimony was honestly scary. The fact that she didn’t feel a diagnosis or statements from her Drs weren’t necessary to include in her reports for the judge is mind blowing.

“I inadvertently omitted that from my report”…. I hope she never sees another child.

Any case that involves this woman should be investigated and dismissed.

Her, the prosecutor, judge, and anyone else involved in putting this father in jail, need to be prosecuted, themselves, and held accountable for their neglect, and clear corruption.

She is basically saying she will ignore other doctors diagnosis because they are not aligned to what she believes as a medical child abuse. That’s just messed up. I wonder how many innocent parents got screwed by this dr.

This woman's total lack of remorse or even a hint of doubt in her medical misconduct, must have hugely convinced the jury to award the family millions in damages. I hope it sends a strong signal to other hospitals and medical personnel who abuse patients and families.

As a fellow CRPS sufferer (it was called RSD at the time I was diagnosed..they’ve since changed the name but it’s the same dark beast) this entire case breaks my heart. When I was diagnosed it was barely understood by only a handful of physicians I came across, and we’ve come a long way since I was first diagnosed, but we’re still not nearly far enough in education regarding this horrible affliction. I hope this case will keep this topic in the limelight and that great strides will be made toward treatment and protecting those who have CRPS as well as the families who care for them diligently. I’m so very glad to know that this family has won their case against Johns Hopkins and this doctor.

I have CRPS...i was diagnosed 13 years ago and physicians just like this are the reason why it goes undiagnosed for YEARS before receiving proper treatment. She is every CRPS patients' nightmare.

That woman is a flagrant, rampant, overt narcissist. All of her cases should be investigated and definitely all of the people who feel injured by her work should seek legal advice.

The fact that she reported “abuse” on other parents is ridiculous. She needs to be accountable for those kids and family and their mental state!

She punished the family for her incompetency. Scary. It can happen to anyone. WOW. The more you listen the more you get flabbergasted. It looks the hospital hired her to find clients for their scams. She keeps saying " child abuse" but yet the hospital charged the insurance company for CRPS.

Her continuing to call a BOARD CERTIFIED PHYSICIAN’S diagnosis an “opinion” is sickening. How is this even possible?

“All these Drs who did tests and are all specialists are not reliable. Me reading through notes is reliable.” Is what she’s saying.

She basically says: "I knew that 7 other therapists, neurologists, and anesthesiologists, who are experts in CRPS, confirmed CRPS, but because I didn't like their treatments, they were unreliable. And because I didn't value their opinion, I did not inform the judge in my report, and so only my side was the truth. And because I don't understand CRPS, i could only diagnosis what I understood which was child-abuse" What a piece of work. I wish the lawyer had gone in harder

This lady is SUCH a narcissist. She claims medical doctors do not know what they are talking about but NEVER once looks in the mirror and thinks she may be wrong? How this one person held this girl captive for months is truly disgusting Florida. My god....what torture this family endured because of THIS woman.

She has a history of destroying families. How is she still employed? Why hasn’t she been investigated and imprisoned?

She ignores the diagnosis of every other doctor, and determines her assessment is valid. While the very same hospital she works for billed the Kowalski family for CRPS Treatment. The very diagnosis this woman is claiming isn’t true.

“That’s not my job” is a phrase I detest…. In any situation.

“…and who elected you to be the judge of whether all of these board-certified physicians were reliable?” She herself answers, “Nobody.” This woman is an absolute monster who should be in prison for her crimes against humanity.

This scares me that people like this are hired to represent CPS! Such a disgrace for someone who is supposed “advocate for the child”!! The only child she is advocating for is herself! Disgusting that her arrogance cost so many families and cost Maya’s mom her life!

As a physician and a psychiatrist, I really hope this woman is put away from responsibility over children or any people whatsoever and gets psychiatric evaluation herself.

We have a local doctor here in the Lehigh Valley doing the same things… multiple families accused of this and all from the same town… it’s the drs that are sick!! This is a nightmare!

She couldn’t even name a single child psychiatrist that would agree with her

This is a perfect example of how terrible Healthcare is. As someone with a rare diagnosis, i can tell you this is how they treat you and it's disgusting. It happens more than you think. She needs to lose her license ignoring her diagnosis and pushing her own beliefs. If you have a chronic illness you are basically left without much help and fighting "drs" that try to label it as in your head. It needs to change badly.

As someone who’s father has been diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder (is a diagnosed narcissist) and as someone who has a whole host of (mostly rare) health issues, including CRPS (what Maya has) I am highly suspicious that this woman is a narcissist. She reminds me of my dad so much, and especially as a child with CRPS (so obviously I know what it’s like to be a child with this condition and who knows how doctors can be when it comes to all rare conditions but specifically this one) she is a classic example of a narcissist who was given too much power and someone died because of it. The way she believes that she is the smartest person in the room, she must be right even though she is not trained in this, that even though this child has a diagnosis of this disease and was diagnosed by a specialist in this disease but that doesn’t matter because she knows better than a specialist, that she continues to insist that she was never wrong despite there being concrete evidence that she was, etc. are all signs of a classic narcissist. My dad is the same way. He knows best. He, as an engineer who designs guns (that’s his specialty) insisted that he knew more about building a house than anyone else, so much so that he ended up firing everyone else who he hired to build our house because he didn’t think that they knew better than him (despite it being their job, he was insistent that he knew more, and he didn’t, by the way, there were lots of problems with the house lol) He will never, ever, EVER admit that he was wrong even if there is concrete evidence that he was because he can’t be wrong. Everything is always about him and because he thinks this it must be true even if there is concrete evidence that it isn’t it must be because he thinks it is. She is a narcissist, I have no doubt about it, and she should be locked up. The way she (and everyone else, but specifically her) treated this child is absolutely horrendous and makes me physically sick. Like I said, I am a kid who has many (rare) medical issues, including crps, but I also have gastroparesis, immunodeficiency, POTS and dysautonomia, mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) ehlers Danlos syndrome, and more, this case makes me absolutely sick. I was also wrongfully diagnosed with FND (what this woman often refers to as conversion disorder, the old name for it) and funny enough the person/people who wrongfully diagnosed me with it were the people at a pediatric pain rehabilitation center (PPRC) and the PPRC I went to is actually the program that the program they wanted to send her to was based off of (if that makes sense) I was diagnosed with this condition with zero testing (which, by the way, this diagnosis is a diagnosis of exclusion. It’s diagnosed when they have done every test, when they have ruled out every physical cause, that’s when this diagnosis can be made, just thought I should add that piece of information). In the end, I went to a program for this disorder, it did nothing, the pt and ot there immediately noticed that I had obvious neurological abnormalities (klonis) that CANNOT be caused by conversion disorder and my mom was advised to seek a second opinion. We did, we went to another FND specialist (who this program recommended) and he immediately asked what tests I had done. When we said none, he was shocked. Upon simple neurological examination, he was like “you have obvious neurological abnormalities, how did they diagnose you with this without any tests when you have obvious neurological abnormalities?” Me and my mom were both blindsided. Fast forward a few months, i saw multiple different doctors (including neurologists and FND specialists) and every single one of them agreed that this was NOT conversion disorder. When I went back to the PPRC for my follow up, we learned that I did in fact have these neurological abnormalities when I was there, but that they werent “significant enough” to mean anything, so they never mentioned them. Keep in mind, I was given a psychological diagnosis by these people. A diagnosis that makes treatment for everything else much harder as now everything is blamed on this psychological disorder. They refuse to take this diagnosis off of my chart (despite agreeing with the other doctors that further tests are necessary) even though 5 neurologists, 3 FND specialists, 2 orthopedics, 3 physical therapists, 2 occupational therapists, and everyone else have all stated that this is in no way shape or form functional neurological disorder and that this is most definitely some sort of (rare) neurological condition that they simply haven’t diagnosed yet. The person who diagnosed me is not an FND specialist, they are not an FND treatment center, but they refuse to admit that they were wrong and that I don’t have FND despite everyone else (including multiple experts in FND) saying that I don’t have it. Everyone believes I have dystonia and another rare condition that we don’t know what it is yet. Just because you don’t know what’s wrong doesn’t mean it’s psychological! This entire case is absolutely sick and it makes me physically sick! This woman especially needs to be held accountable and locked up! She is evil and needs to be held accountable for what she did!

She stated herself several different ways that her job only consists of accusing parents of abuse and finding evidence to support that claim for courts. Who would ever blatantly say I refuse to hear the other side or an explanation for a childs injuries. Im only here to find the worst possible scenario. Why would a job like hers even exist? Thats sick. She is sick! No wonder she has falsely accused numerous parents and have dozens speaking out against her calling for her to be fired.

Every single case this terrible woman has been involved in needs to be reopened and looked at. She should at least be held responsible for Maya's Moms death.

What type of person smiles on the stand in such a case? In front of the children harmed in this case. In front of the jury.

I had to go back and listen 3 times to "but that's not their job to document child abuse". It is literally a law for anyone to report child abuse if they know.

She has done this to so many families than she needs to be fired. And nobody thought that they she did not have CRPS. When you are not familiar with a disease you call in a specialist period. That is common sense. And she is not familiar with with CRPS treatments which scare a lot of other doctors. But these are treatments that are found to be safe even in young kids. That is why only specialist should be called in. She has NO COMMON SENSE . SHOULD BE FIRED AND NEVER BE ABLE TO WORK IN THIS FIELD OR PATICULARLY WITH CHILDREN AGAIN. I DO NOT CARE HOW MUCH TRAINING SHE HAD SHE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT SHE IS DOING.

As a medical specialist myself, it was really disturbing to hear this lady! She demonstrates a scary defiance to admit to truth, demonstrates no honesty and is dangerously vindictive. She did not like Beata and this was her campaign to show her power. I would be pressing criminal charges if this "doctor" was in my country. She discounted all the other specialists as if she was the only one that mattered. The colossal ego of this narcissist!

I'm a 40-year-old woman and I am scared to death of this person! I think she lives under the beds of little children and comes out at night time to scare the living crap out of them!

It's amazing that she can recall exact dosages of several medications she didn't prescribe, but she can't exactly recall who or what she put in her own reports.

Regarding Dr. Sally Smith testimony. This is a disgrace. Don't make excuses for yourself and say that was "not my responsibility." If you only tell part of the story that is a lie of omission. Tell the whole truth. It is clear to me that the staff handling this case conspired against Maya and her whole family. Give some people a little power and it goes to their head. They should never get aways with this again. Maya and her whole family are now damaged by the hospital's treatment. Justice for Maya.

How the HELL is she carrying around medical records she “printed out”? As far as I know and for 18 years, every year, i took a class about protected medical information and how it is handled. THIS is NOT how it s handled. If she wanted to walk around with someone’s record she probably needed to hired an attorney to represent her not over step and do what she wanted to do, how she wanted to do it. I think this is another show of her personality. So much missed by not having a medical person on their legal team. I agree. This woman is dangerous. She is admitting to craziness.

They said she was late for court because she went to the wrong courthouse. The truth is that a man who had been locked up for 8 months because of her child abuse lies confronted her outside and she needed to time to compose herself.

There is no such a thing as licensed clinical social work intern. You are either an intern or a licensed clinical social worker.

This women is the prime example of what is wrong with the system. This woman needs to be in jail. Her job is to find out the truth. Apparently she thinks she is smarter than anyone else.

If she's not a specialist in the disease and doesn't know anything about the treatment of the disease then why did she somehow think that treatment in a hyperbaric chamber and ketamine on the same day is uncalled for.

This is exactly the type of person that should NOT be in charge of ANYTHING. She is exactly the type who will go and punish innocent victims and bully them to make herself feel better. It is rampant in clinics and hospitals with unchecked power. You want to know what is really going on in your place? Anonymously ask the patients or customers. That is the only way to keep this type of power defanged. This woman oozes narcissism among other things.

As a pediatric nurse in Tampa bay I can tell you this is not how we are supposed to treat patients and families. In nursing school we are taught to take the patients pain rating as they tell it, not what we think their pain is. I take my patients here all the time. This hospital accuses every family of child abuse. Medical professionals I work with have taken their children to the ER there and were accused over a simple curling iron burn that the child pulled down on himself among MANY OTHERS. NOT TO MENTION CATHI BEDYS FORMER ARREST FOR CHILD ABUSE WAY BEFORE EVER WORKING AT JHAC!!! This is not about the family getting money or whatever half of you think. This is about calling attention to a serious problem among healthcare professionals at this hospital and everywhere. Mothers of patients I care for are AFRAID to take their child there due to unfounded claims way before this case and the documentary. I want to go downtown and stand outside of the doors and protest but that wouldn’t be fair to the current patients now would it? The entire system failed this family. CPS DCF nurses doctors everyone whos only job was to protect. There is no way JH is winning this case.
