'Take Care of Maya' verdict read in court 

Let this be a lesson to the broken, dyfunctional, arrogant, ignorant, chaotic, fascist American Healthcare System. Everyone is sick of it. Kudos to the Kowalski family for fighting this horrific crime against them. May it start a movement to take our healthcare back.

WHAT A RELIEF. JUSTICE FOR THIS POOR FAMILY. These institutions/corporations need to see that they can't play with peoples lives!

Beata honestly sacrificed herself so her daughter’s/family’s story would be heard. What an incredibly devoted mother. (And the father as well.) So glad they finally got their justice. They were severely wronged.

The sound of the brother crying breaks my heart. He was the brother and had to watch his mom and sister go through this and it had to be so hard. He was so strong. I feel for him too. So very much

I know people hear these numbers being read aloud and hear “x million dollars” and feel a sense of relief for this family. NO DOLLAR AMOUNT will save these people from the future they see in front of them. There was. No reaction when the monetary amounts were revealed. It was the words they read before revealing the number. That we see them fall apart. And they will do that again and again and again. This money doesn’t provide anything except a target on their backs. Yes, they’ll be able to think about the life they could have had surrounded by money, but they lost their mother/wife. No dollar amount can repair.

End medical abuse. It’s always said that you have no chance suing a hospital. You proved them wrong. Medical institutions have to be held responsible.

The pain and suffering this family has endured is beyond words .. I cry for them and prayers

I’m sure they would rather have their mom as no amount of money can ever fix this unimaginable horror this family had to endure. Sadly, due to continued litigation it will be years before they actually receive a penny from the facility.

I think it’s sicking that the hospital will do an appeal, how sick and twisted, I pray for this beautiful family. For their serious loss, for the eternal rest of their mother and wife’s soul. I pray that they find community and live within the Catholic Church and that they can move forward, and honour their mother’s memory, through their will to live as beautiful children of God. It’s honestly scary that a hospital can do this. The government and hospitals and schools have way too much power. We need small government

People should stop going to this criminal facility. They are proven in a court to be criminal. Why would anyone take their child there???!!!! I would never. I would drive 100 miles before I would step one foot in that place.

what happened to this family is a tragedy and why isnt dr sally smith medical license revoked. You could tell the mother loved her daughter deeply.

I have never cried during anyone’s court hearing like I did for this family. No amount of money can bring Beata back. God rest her soul. May Maya receive proper medical care for her future and her brother feel at peace with the verdict. The years of anguish waiting for Justice.. breaks my heart.

Whoever was that person who decided Maya not to see her parents vice versa , must be punished!

Remember, this can happen to any of us tomorrow. Taking your sick child to a hospital, and you end up in jail!

After everything this family has been put through, I am so glad they have had justice for what they've been put through. Luckily they had a very strong mother and wife, who fought for her daughters care and documented/recorded everything but unfortunately the hospital, doctors and health care system took this as a threat and turned on her. I hope a lot more families now take further action with they're local authorities/hospitals, health care. They lie, they charge unbelievable amounts of money and they need to be accountable!! And I really hope the hospital, doctors etc in this case are not allowed to appeal this discussion, after what they have put this family through. God bless you Kowalski family

No amount of money will compensate for the loss of a loving mum & wife but I’m so glad they finally got justice as a family! They never gave up!!! 🙏🏼

How can anyone respond to this. I just stumbled on a previous interview when I read that there was a Netflix documentary about this family and their lives, which I watched, so shocked, as I work for ACS, or children's services in NYC. In the many years I have worked with children and their families, only on 1 occasion did I remove a child, and that because the child did not belong to the family but was left with them to watch "for an hour" which turned into 3 days and the family did not have the means to buy the things a 13 month old would need, like diapers....so I had to call the police and city social services who arrived, along with the mother, who claimed she "fell asleep", though she had a crack pipe sticking out of her pocket...and she was taken away, too, but to a different location. To see the stats in that county, I believe double the state average of children being removed from parental protection, I was stunned. To continue and see how they treated the late mother, who behaved like any other other trying to save her child, and see her family break down and finally, give up in that the mother committed suicide, was and is tragic. The way the case was manipulated in Florida courts, refusing a jury trial for years as the young lady had to try to remain as healthy as possible, the son try to grow up and the husband who only had memories to look back on, is sickening and it brings me joy to see the hospital, department of children's affairs, the doctor assigned to the young girl when she was forced to remain in hospital but the mother refused entry...? Joyous. No amount of money will ever restore the presence of a parent or the psychological scars left on that family, but at least they have the means to get all the help they will need in the future. Shame on Florida and Johns Hopkins!

How sad, that it took so long, and it took their mother and wife. May God give them peace, prayers for this family and all the families that have suffered an abuse from the American healthcare.
