At last a tutorial which doesn't start with "push the power button on the front of your personal computer (that was invented in the late 60's) to turn it on.". As a professional Cinema 4D user with 5 years of 3D experience, all I need is a rough translation of the tools I use, for Maya. Great tutorial, thank you!
Nobody seems to get that PROFESSORS are not college instructors. Professors are PHDs at a university. VFX instructors / teachers are dude's who know how to use software that teach it at a community college.

I'm 48 minutes in and god damn I'm so glad I found this tutorial, so far I'm learning a ton of the features and understanding how to use lots of the features. Plus the guy is well spoken, he doesn't make it boring (and although cheesy he does try and talk straight to you) really dude thanks a bunch for this!
each minute was valuable.. that was a really professional way of explaining and keeping it in limits for new comers.. im a max user from a decade.. and i felt its the same with a different interface. thank you so much
This is just great! I use 3D Max but I feel that it has many functions that are extremely old/dont work/not user friendly. I am looking forward also for the new sculpting tools in Maya in the future :D

Thanks for the tutorial....I went through it and can honestly say I just don't like Maya. I realize its the most powerful 3d software, but Blender is more fun and easy to use. Blender feels like a work in progress, but it feels "comfy" for me.

You can just use Blender instead. It's opensource, made by incredible people, and it's lightweight compared to maya. And if you press ctrl+alt+u you can change that ugly looking gray theme.
You stress out that You are a 3d Generalist, so I like to hear some opinion from someone who is 3d generalist about work in some game studio in which, some prominent people claim, you need to know just one think because in game studios people work very specific tasks like character artists, environment artists, animators... so, what do You think about that, is it better to focus on one thing?
+stef wth In AAA studios, you need to be a strong 'specialist' because they operate as a 'factory line' of workers. A generalist usually is not as strong in the specific skills, hence jack of all trades, master of none. AAA Studios want great results really fast. As a generalist, you work very very well as a one man studio on small projects, as a project manager or director or senior leader in a pipeline. It's up to you what you want to do, don't worry too much about career choice. Start with what you love, and jobs will come to you.
Anyone able to transfer from Blender to Maya? I am struggling a lot on everything. Maya is sooooooo complicated and unintuitive. Every action is so complicated, why?

I need help … when i press R and hold Shift and then sizing object higher or smaller, my object or scale move only by one point … i can't move for 0,01 point etc … how i can do this?
Is there any way to keep the outliner snapped into one of the other windows and not just keeping it floating on top of everything else? I'm so used to working in C4D and it's always has it's list sitting on the right side of the window. I don't want to put it into my viewports either.

Hey, my object won't mirror when I use duplicate special. It duplicates the object but it's not mirroring it, its just in the same position as the other one?
At the 7:46 mark, which mouse button did you hold down in order to scale the square? I've tried holding shift and clicking all the mouse buttons, and nothing. Is it because I am using the 2018 version? Man, I am getting nowhere fast with this program...
Try this: Top of the toolbar, or you can google it, look for something called 'construction history'. Make sure this is ON before you create your polygon primitive. If that doesn't work, I believe it may be a 2018 version issue. Maya has been changing a lot of the key features which I don't necessarily think is good, so 2018 may have a different feature that does the same thing. I haven't used it yet but I will update with a new upload sometime. Sorry, I know it's frustrating. It's nothing new if you've used Maya for a while :(
whats the minimum requirements to run this program, i have a 2014 MacBook pro, would i have to get a desktop and if so what would be the minimum requirements to be able to run this smoothly, thanks in advance.
ok, so I'm as new as you can get to maya, and have a question. I go to polygons, shift-click cube and instead of letting me make a custom shaped cube it just presents me with one. how do I get it to allow me to make custom cubes?
There's something called 'construction history' that needs to be on. I don't know what version you're using but in 2012 it's located on the top bar. Looks a bit like a notepad with a list. Very vague I know. It may be called something slightly different in newer versions. Let me know how you go!

Hey I've got one question althoug not sure if it's a dumb one... when you star talking about polygons and you create the first rectangle, it let's you choose where to put it and modify it's size before it actually appears... For me, once I click it, it shows up immediately in the center, how do I change this?
