Idk it kind of makes it sound cooler in my opinion. Like a trading of phrases then a joined effort the third time. It's jazz so who really cares am I right?
These two lead trumpet guys [Louis Dowdeswell, Ryan Quigley] probably needed a drink, some Tylenol, & a short session with the physical therapist after those pyrotechnics.
I liked the idea, cool! That said it took both of them to get through it. Maynard had to do this every night and he was way more musical. Maynard sings up high, he’s a artist, not just a trumpet player with range
@@hughpenner5051 *"..They could both play this on their own if they wanted to.."* What video are you watching? The evidence presented here says neither of them are even close to Maynard. Maynard played it along with all the other screaming he was expected to do during a tough concert. Neither of them could have played the book Maynard played with Kenton. Calling them a couple of trumpet players who can hit some high notes is quite accurate.
What was the point of having not one but two guys do a half-assed job on this chart...in sort-of unison...? If it was their goal to lower the bar even farther from Arturo's mangling of it on "Trumpet Evolution" they succeeded. Jeezus, what a mess. You have to be able to play the whole chart not just bang out some select high notes and fluff the rest of it. If the band isn't up to it, the soloist can't cut it - don't play the chart. The next time I hear someone carrying on about what a high-note badass Louis Dowdeswell is, I'll point them to this video.
Damn dude, sometimes people just wanna have some fun. This obviously isn't supposed to be some high-end playing for a recording or something. They are just messing around and laughing and enjoying themselves. Also imagine judging someones ability to play based on one recording. If that was how it went down, you could find a recording for every single trumpet player
Hey man, Ryan here...(the guy on the right in the video!). I’m sad people aren’t able to get into the spirit of this. We didn’t even know it was being filmed for public consumption. Fur the record, Louis for sure can play this chart on his own pretty much better than most people on the planet. It didn’t need two of us....we were having a bit of fun with it. It was the last night of a pretty intense tour and we were having a laugh, it was great fun. Yeah, the playing is a bit rough....but it’s not bad considering how much we’d had to drink! It was a kind of last night party. And again, for the record, Louis is one of the greatest trumpet players on the planet, and he’s still in his twenties!!
