Opinions on this with democrats as far as I can find is very devided. - Buttigieg has been under heavy critique for poor treatment of homeless citizens in the city of South Bend of which he is a mayor. - Some of his biggest donors for the DNC bid include Facebook Chief Product Officer Chrix Cox and Co-Founder Chris Hughes, raising some questions about the policy around online news monopoly and human rights applicability potential under Buttigieg. He is mostly in line with other centrist to semi-progressive democrats further as far as I know, but the above things are... troublesome for a lot of people when they find out, and make me dislike him as a candidate.

All of these houses were built before South Bend hit it's peak population of 132,000, so with a current population of 102,000 it creates no housing shortage for the poor. Most ppl, including minorities were happy to see the vacant homes issue addressed. I first subscribed to the South Bend Tribune in 1979 when I bought my first house in the Riverpark neighborhood.

His comments about the importance of morality and the tone of a presidency resonate with me. I like how prepared he is for every interview I’ve seen so far. Paul Miller I guess I’d be considered a moderate progressive. I am progressive but also realize the country can only handle tiny baby steps. Pete is progressive and is wise enough to not shove new things down people’s throats they are not ready for yet. He strikes a good balance. Oh, how I wish the American people were ready for full throttle progression, but the reality is they are not. Pete is fully capable of gently leading the way. I hope one of the first things he does is to begin an overhaul of our energy policy, starting with many more “cancer causing” windmills and other forms of alternate energy.

His take on major issues is still very very confusing primarily because his website still doesn't show any policy positions. He has been incredibly vague about automation and the supreme Court. He says he supports medicare for all but he doesn't want to implement it anytime soon and would rather strengthen Obamacare. His medicare for all policy is just like Nancy pelosi which is in the incremental form. If you wanted that then Kamala Harris/Hillary Clinton was the person for you. We have seen how Bernie is on the debate stage and we know his consistency in his voting record since he was a mayor. I think when mayor Pete is going to be scrutinized on his policies ( MSM will not do I'll gaurantee you that ) his platform will crumble because there are so many better candidates

Bernie couldn’t get anything done if he even got elected... he’s far too polarizing. He has some great ideas but this is democracy, not monarchy. Bernie wouldn’t get to just make stuff happen on will. Pete could easily use his more moderate concepts to move us forward and hopefully get a Bernie like president in 2028

I would vote for him, too, if he won the nomination...with one exception: if Bernie is the frontrunner and super delegates on the second ballot are used to give the nomination to any other candidate, I'm done with the Democrats for good.

Me too. Seems like people are still getting to know him. The town hall tomorrow will hopefully ask him more relevant questions, especially since he's pretty eager to answer them.

@@meankitten I'm not confident he wants to answer policy questions. He has said multiple times that Democrats should be more philosophical and less detailed in their platform. That's really suspicious to me. The few stances I do know from him are all pretty weak and not progressive at all like the media says. He is not for Medicare for all (wants a public buy in, but would allow private insurance to continue and weaken the whole point of M4A), thinks free college is "elitist" (coming from a Harvard and Rhodes scholar), talks about fighting climate change but hasn't mentioned the Green new deal or an alternative plan for how to do that, says we should reverse Trump's tax cuts but isn't clear on whether he would do beyond that, says corporations are one of the biggest threat to our nation but doesn't want to break them up (he says we should regulate how they act more than how large or powerful they can be), and just recently talked about mandatory or highly encouraging national service (I volunteered with Americorps for two years so I am all for increasing the funding for that stuff, but definitely need details on what he means and would have to think hard about it if he really is meaning mandatory service in similar programs or the military). We know nothing on his foreign policy, and very little on everything else.

If that's a serious question, and you really don't know what he stands for, I'd suggest that you just listen to the man himself. Did you watch the video that this thread is attached to? I did, and I've watched about a half-dozen others, and I'm very, very impressed with his poise, his grasp of the issues, his intelligence and his positive, I'd say transformational, outlook. I'm not going to try to re-cap every position he holds, but he's in favor of marriage equality (obviously, and the law of the land), economic opportunity, reproductive freedom, cyber-security, democratic values, strong moral values, etc., etc. He says that Democratic principles actually can fit on a bumper sticker: "Freedom, Democracy, Security", and he makes a powerful case for each. If you don't like what you see in Mayor Pete and you want to debate about his positions, don't waste your time trying to pick a fight with me. I'm not going to play.

Enough with the disingenuous blame game. Bernie supporters turned out for Hillary in greater numbers than Hillary supporters turned out for Obama in 2008.

I will vote for Mayor Pete for myriad reasons, one of which is my conviction that he is the best to begin the healing process our country desperately needs. Ms. Abrams has been on my mind as a possible running mate for a few weeks now. I think they would make an unstoppable team. There is NO question in my mind that he would choose an African America woman as his running mate. Other than Abrams, or Kamala Harris, can you suggest other women with experience about whom you would be enthusiastic?

Don P Absolutely. Issues matter to me very much. One very important issue for me is right wing Christians spewing hate and cruelty as proper policy. I believe in the separation of church and state and the freedom of religion. I believe in equal rights. These are issues that Pete is addressing now, and I’m sure he will address many more of my burning issues as he continues his campaign.

And he supports mandatory service, something which is putting a lot of people I know off from supporting him as well.

If you watch a number of his recent interviews he's explained his ideas in much greater detail. When did liking a candidate for having intelligence and genuine good character become a jab at liberals? He's a decent human being with more experience then the current administration. I've voted for republicans and democrats for president. I believe he'll get more details out soon enough, right now he's blitzing the media outlets to get his name and general ideas out to the masses. That's why he doesn't miss an opportunity to get on any platform. We'll just have to see how things go.
