Mazda 3 Turbo is one of the few cars I actually think a longer wing would complement the lines better. Almost like a refined Ek Type R look. Perfect for the people who grew up with 90s sporty hatchbacks but also refined enough for us who are in their 30-40s now.
I owned a '10 Speed 3 and currently own a '21 Turbo PP hatch. I tracked the Speed 3 a few times, and haven't tracked the Turbo 3. I think it's safe to say the Speed3 was a bit more engaging, and had a great manual. On the other side, the current Turbo 3 Hatch is way more luxury and much better day to day. I'm pushing 40 and the more refined and sophisticated vibe of the 3 Turbo is greatly appreciated. It's just as fast (if not faster) but comes off as more adult.
You're pushing to 40 mpg? I am thinking of getting one. I am hoping it's around 35 at least on freeway. Coz i am going 40 to 45 on my civic on freeway. 31 to 35 on my city.
Biggest no-no for me is the Mazda 3 Turbo is automatic. I'll be keeping my Speed3 until I no longer can. I daily mine. 231k miles (new engine for the past 6k). 2010 Technology Package.
Still daily drive my 2011 Speed 3 Tech Package at 135k too. Really really just wish the new turbo hatch could come in manual.. until it does, I’ll be sticking to my Speed 3. /:
I daily My 2013 speed 3 too. 156k and I test drove the awd turbo and I agree. It needs to come in a manual before I'd buy one. It's not rowdy enough for me. Great, its as fast if not faster.... but it doesn't feel like it. If it was manual, I'd like to think I could get a little extra rowdyness out of it, but it just feels too tame currently. It's definitely nice though!
The other trims have a manual, I think it might be how the 2.5T delivers the power, I have a '21 Turbo Sedan and it really hits the boost about 2500-3k and then it runs with it and you've got to be on it quick if your manual shifting, it is a slapstick auto transmission
Agree, but that's assuming there isn't bumper to bumper traffic all the way home. In that scenario I'd much rather have the auto trans and nicer interior of the latest gen.
Love to see a RX-8/RX-9 with the Kodo design language. Yes, they've come a long way in the pursuit of luxury tendencies. The big omission is the 3rd pedal in the top spec car(s). Yes, a 186hp '3 can be had w/3 pedals, but not in top spec trim. You also can't get 3 pedals w/the AWD '3 or in the '6 anymore. Now, I do like Mazda reducing the road noise and "growing up", but even when you wear a suit everyday, there are also times when you want to wear shorts and comfortable shoes (or no shoes). Mazda can be luxury oriented, but they can also incorporate zoom-zoom sportiness too. Look at what Mercedes, BMW, and Audi can do (of course minus the 3rd pedal). It's okay to "do work" when you drive.
I’m a 56 year old man and I bought A 2013 Mazdaspeed3 brand new in 2013. I still cannot understand people reviewing The last GEN Mazda speed three say it has crazy amounts of torque steer. This is ridiculous my car was modified with the Cobb access port air box short ram intake. Other than that stock. Car was making roughly 290 hp 290 foot pounds of torque. I raced the car on the dragstrip numerous times it ran nine flats in the 1/8 mile. And I never noticed any major torque steer issues except in really slippery conditions you may want to hang onto the steering wheel with both hands under a severe load. I’ve had numerous performance cars and the speed three ,While not super luxurious Was one of the best driving most fun sports cars I have ever owned. And I have driven the new Mazda three turbo and while a very nice interior Super comfy and quiet. There is no comparison to the fun to be had in the speed three. And I averaged 27 miles per gallon highway 20 city and that’s after the modifications.
I just came across your channel though this video and I am surprised that you don't have more subscribers! Great video man, keep up the good work and you'll have 100k subscribes in no time!
I own a current manual 2.5 Astina 3 hatch as I didn’t want a boringmatic. It’s our top spec 3 here in Australia but I don’t rely on the safety tech as I’m watching what I’m doing and using my mirrors. As for the MPS 3 mate of course it’s going to miss out of tech due to its age but it keeps your attention span on 110% due to its fun roar ness. The new 3 looks great but at 59 I’d be still happy to drive/own a MPS3 as the fun factor is thrilling with that punch of untapped power. We don’t get the turbo Downunder but then I’d still have the FWD 2.5ltr because I can get top spec with a 6spd manual. Great video of the comparison that has changed the boy racer to an elegant fast safety hatch. Mazda we need a manual in the turbo 3 and send the bloody thing Downunder 🇦🇺👍🏻
@@davidrome6066 it’s actually more like 2.5 seconds faster. Turbo runs 0-60 in under 6 seconds. Faster funner. And I agree a 8 sec 0-60 is boring. Manuals are geared to lose. You all bitch about manuals but none of you buy them so shut up.
@@mistergoodcitizen9914 Yes... BORINGmatic. Automatic transmissions have always been for women and effeminate men who can't drive. I've driven both fast and slow cars with manual transmissions as well as the same cars with slushboxes. The manual transmission cars are ALWAYS more engaging and fun to drive. While a fast car can be fun to drive with a slushbox, I've never found a slow car that was even remotely fun to drive with a boringmatic, but there are quite a few relatively slow cars that are still fun to drive with a manual transmission. My daily is an 8 second 0-60 manual that also gets 30+ MPG in a midsize car, which isn't bad. The 6 speed manual transmission makes the car. Otherwise it would just be another boring family sedan. But it IS fun to drive. My LS6 Chevelle is a 4 speed manual and trust me, it is WAY more fun than an LS6 Chevelle with an automatic. It does 0-60 in under 6 seconds which isn't bad for a 52 year old car. The thing is, I don't floor any of my cars every time I take off from a dead stop. It's not even possible to do so if you drive where there is any traffic at all. So then your boringmatic car becomes grandma's most of the time because driving it normally in traffic is exactly the same as driving your grandmother's Buick Century in traffic. Meanwhile, my manual transmission car is still fun. You'll never know since you obviously lack the skill to drive it.
I love my MS3. owning her for month, apsolutly scary and awesome in the same time :D It has 160k km on the clock, hope to get at least twice as that😁 unfortunately in my country we dont have mazda 3 turbo :(
The mazdaspeed3 is a car that 20yrs from now people will look back on and say, dam... thats a nice car. And the price for a clean unmolested one will skyrocket for entusiast collectors. The new mazda3, nobody is gonna care about it. It doesnt have any collector value to it. Once it starts to age and have problems, people will be quick to dump it. The mazdaspeed3 is a classic. Theres a reason prices are rising for cars like the nissan 240sx, older gen sti/wrx, older gen evos, skylines, and even 80s/90s hondas. And its not even imports. Even 80s,90s,2000s Usdm classic car prices are rising.
I'd rather have the older Mazdaspeed 3 because I would want a manual. Though I would prefer the newer mazda 3 turbo more, if only they had a manual :( Honestly the transmission isnt the bigest reason the mpg is so good with the new turbo engine a manual would get just as good of mpgs. Its the ECU tuning and the engineering with that new engine! They did an amazing job.
The lack of a manual transmission option is the reason why my current Mazda 6 will be the last Mazda I'll ever buy. It's a shame because I love it and the one I had before it (also a manual Mazda 6) but Subaru or Jeep it is.
50+ yr old woman and I love my 2011 MS3. It looks better, it sounds better 😉, it feels better when driving (after having driven my friend's 2022 quite a few times in comparison), and it is a true hatchback instead of the 2022's sedan with a bubble butt backend styling. No comparison.
Different cars to me. MPS 3 is like Civic Type R to me, it is performance oriented. It comes with German bilstein shocks and driver will get load of funs when doing cornering, it also has the mechanical LSD built in for more controlling when I seriously drive fast. Missing six speed for 2022 is not an issue, it it is a regular cruiser to me only not a sport hot hatch. But good to know it has adaptive cruise control now for 2022 that can drive by itself guiding by radar which Honda Civic 10th Gen bundle it in 2017, it is finally here in the 3
Great video! Still wish that car came manual for people who love Mazda. I am hoping to get my hands on a gr corolla (depending on mark up) obviously in manual. I know majority of the population does not drive manual anymore. But people don't drive manual because they don't want to do anything, they want to do as less work as possible. Cars can have these options to go into "manual mode", but I guarantee you most people don't even do that. If I were to buy the new mazda 3 I wouldn't buy the gt turbo simply because it doesn't come in manual. I would stick with the original 2.5 naturally aspirated and do some mods just to make it come alive a little bit😁!
Had a speed 3 and currently have the 21 turbo hatch, and the new gen is leagues better just bc of the torque steer and handling. Speed torque steer is severe, new gen is WAY faster and the traction and handling can’t be touched. The definition of evolution
I just managed to get a '12 MPS in Aus with 20,000kms on it (yes legit) its absolutely great! I used to have one and then had a 3rd gen sp25 and I do not regret going "backwards"
I have the normal Mazda 3 Hatchback with Selection, Premium Package und Assistance with the Skyactive X and Manual. Sadly the Turbo is not available in Germany, but I also hate that it only has automatic, so Im glad to own my X. I absolutely enjoy every drive.
Mazdaspeed 3 stock shifter has a better feel than a lot of sport manuals out there. It's all around a nice car, but without a very good maintenance and know how, and if you start to tune them over 300hp, they are becoming a money pit. The noise in the old Speed 3 is something normal for the cars in that era. The Mazdaspeed 6 GT that I own (Mazda 6 MPS everywhere else or Atenza ) was unbearable to driver over 70mph on Autobahn, and that's with good Michelin PS4 tires, Eibach -30mm lowering springs, new stock shock absorbers and stock tires (215 45 18). You have to do a bit of soundproofing on the old ones to get a feel of "quality", but hey, they were done in an Era when they were working with Ford, so no wonder why and how. All in all, I would rather have the new one knowing the quirks and maintenance headaches the old 2.3 DISI Turbo engine gives, plus the new ones don't rust as bad as the older ones.
Low-tech, non-sport comment here: I've had a 2010 Mazda3 iTouring sedan automatic since new - it only has 40,000 miles. If there were no supply shortages, I'd go for the 2022 hatch. But I just may put a new set of tires on mine (3 are original) and sit tight for another year or so until dealers are begging me to come in...which may or may not ever happen again.
Even though I’m not in the market for a car like, I’m gutted Mazda don’t sell the 3 Turbo in the UK. I’d definitely choose it over a Golf GTi or Focus ST. Nice video by the way 👍🏾
From what I've heard, the reason there is no manual on the turbo is simply because they decided to make it AWD only, and there is some engineering issue mating the manual to AWD. Combine that with a low take rate and you can see why they didn't bother. I'm hoping the next gen (assuming Mazda doesn't dump all sedans/hatchbacks) 3 does have a manual for AWD and/or turbo, but I understand Mazda is a smaller company that doesn't have the money and resourced of Toyota and Honda.
Have no real interest in performance but the new Mazda’s interior if you covered the badges I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a German interior (which are seen as the peak interiors in Europe, regardless if this is true or not) , very nice!
The only thing one could do if they still want that manual feeling is drive in manual mode, ive done this with a few automatics, though you cant hold the clutch and just rev it to have fun, or if you have a 2 step kit you can only do it while in neutral or park which isnt as fun. The cabin looks nice in both vehicles though
Killed it on the review! i'll have to go with the msp3 though, even for daily driving. I think you just forget about the interior once you drive one everyday lol. lots of fun
I'm 46 and still prefer the older cars like the Mazdaspeed 3, EG/EK Civic and Del Sol. Big part of what I hate is the overcomplication and BS thats making them more expensive to buy, maintain and repair and making drivers progressively dumber and making the cars numb. Some of the automakers commercials are only encouraging bad driving and stupid behavior.
I'll never understand the love for hatchbacks from certain niche communities, blows my mind honestly. Like if you're an active person who needs the storage space just get an SUV. Plus almost every hatchback owner I know doesn't use the extra space anyways lol but they definitely use that excuse. Mazda sedan looks 10x better than the hatchback.
been driving a stock 2017 Mazda 3 since it came out, makes me wish I went for all the bells and whistles! Plan on driving it until it dies it's so good
It’s true a manual would make it more engaging but I think it wouldn’t be by much. I’ve driven a current gen manual Mazda 3 with the 2.5 non turbo it’s absolutely fine but it’s not as raw as the Mazdaspeed.
Oh boy! You should have seen the red interior of the newer gen Mazda3. The only dealbreaker for me on that one was that they used a torsion beam instead of the multi-link.
I’ve seen the red interior, fully in love with it. Honestly the suspension isn’t that big of a deal. They did a really good job with the torsion beam that it feels natural.
@@JimmyMak i honestly agree with you, it's just i wanted to camber my car by a few negative degrees but it's not possible to put rear control arms with the torsion beam
Of course the 22 would look better because it is new but give it the same age for what the SPEED 3 has and I would say the speed 3 would sit on top. The stick shift is becoming rare and this is one of the true Gems that can still pull off more than the new hatch turbo 3
Mazda makes a great manual shifter & its a crime that its not available in the Mazda3 Turbo. I still prefer the look of the sedan the back half of the hatchback looks crowded & weird.
I had to brings my 2013 speed 3 to the dealer for maintenance and was given the new awd turbo 3 as a loaner. Look wise I love the new 3, I think the exterior and interior are stellar, but the driving experience doesn't excite me like my speed 3 does. When I first heard they were coming out, I was hoping it would be Mazda's competition to the Golf R, but it doesn't feel sporty enough. So it looker without any performance which is pretty disappointing.
I don't see how it has "no performance". With 93 octane in it, it has 250hp/320 torque stock. Thats a quick daily. With mods for about 1k, you can easily get 300hp and no issues really. For a vehicle aiming to be entry-level luxury, that's really not bad. It's faster off the line than the gti and wrx (obviously not R or sti). The only real issue I guess is top speed, for some dumb reason they limited it to 133 but supposedly it is possible to remove the governor.
Speed 3 which is actually slower then the turbo stock for stock. I prefer a hatchback look over the station-wagon look. Speed 3 6sec car. New turbo under 6 secs.
My 2007 mazda 3 mps is the best for me.i personaly think the gen1 mps is a more solid vichle then the gen2.and u have more space inside.and thats what poeple want.comfort
Ive owned a first gen and 2nd gen, the 2nd gen definitely is better in every way except looks, and the gen 1 is more nimble, the gen 2 is definitely more roomy though.
oooo great video concept. Having owned a mazdaspeed 3 and looked at a mazda 3 turbo this hits close to home. The speed3 had fairly solid aftermarket and monstrous power potential which the current turbo 3 doesn't seem to have.
Mazdaspeed 3 is better in every way. Looks and performance. Full bolt ons and 93 (in the us) tune and you're faster than literally anything that isn't a muscle car stock. Also sounds better than any newer Mazda with even just a cat back. Better with a turbo back.
The whole concept of the Mazda 3 Turbo hatchback: You don't have to think about it. And therein lies the problem. It is slave to compromise. Sadly, there are too many better choices if you're looking for a fun performance hatch.
OUCH! Boy racer? Lol gender aside, can we just say race car? I`m in my 40s and I love my modded Speed 3. I find it sad that Mazda would turn their back on their very substantial performance minded community. One they have been nurturing for decades. While I do appreciate the increase in luxury, I don't think it needs to come at the expense of the Zoom Zoom feeling.
I should clarify, when I meant boy racer it's certainly not a gender thing and I don't mean race car. I mean a sporty vehicle that's owned/operated by someone in their 20s. While the 2022 model you don't get that raw feeling thanks to all the NVH upgrades stock for stock the new one is faster and with AWD it puts its power down better in the corners. Only time on track can tell but it might be faster overall. In addition, I think once the aftermarket companies like Cobb and Corksport does more R&D the new gen could be quite good.
No it cost less money to make an manual!! Cost less money to maintain a manual! Manuals are more fun! Manuals have a higher result value because they’re becoming rare!
I have just a plain jane Mazda 3, no turbo, no manual 6 speed transmission. 2.3l auto with 5 speed auto stick. Am a retired auto tech., so I drive mines like a manual. Since it has adaptive transmission computer it now has giddy up and GOOOOOO, #mopowababeh. Some folks around here see me and think I have a Speed3, then find out its just a 2.3l auto! 🤣🤣🤣
the new is super bland looks and needs a lot of look ,i do like the awd and starting hp,, but I've had 4 ms3 hp from 320esh to 480whp , the looks are still nicer then most cars now ,im 40 and a larger guy so the new old has about 1/2 the space .
Well I own a 2009 1st Gen Hatchback...I think the 1st Gen Hatch is the BEST look'in Generation...The Interior is awesome so is the Exterior...Looks better than the 2nd Gen. I do not like the 4th Gen hatchback its a lot larger the Rear Design is gross!....No Independent Rear Suspension anymore...Too much Tech Gadgets to break....
Sophisticated just means boring and for really really old people like 65 years old or older!! Or younger people who are really old at heart!! Or people who have more money than sense buying the most boring car they can possibly waste 20 or $30,000 on!!
