Thinking of doing a starter replacement on your Mazda 6? Then watch this video to see how to remove the starter on your first generation Mazda 6i which has the 2.3L engine. See the guide here - www.happywrenching.com/mazda/6...
Mazda's have a problem with the starter wire. It becomes rusted and then you can't turn on the car. A lot of people think the starter is going bad but it's only the wire getting corroded. Look for it online. it's all over. Thanks for the video helped me located the wire. 4:13
@Mr.comments spend the money if you have it. I crashed my Mazda. So I don't have it anymore. I'm sure glad I didn't spend the extra money to replace the starter.it would have been a new starter for whoever bought it from the junk yard.
Thank you! I took my starter to get tested at auto zone and they told me that it was a good starter. I know the test is sometimes not accurate but to be sure I’m going to change the starter and the wire to be safe.
Everyone is nervous when they first start working on their car. As you do more and more it will become second nature. Before you know it, you'll be doing rebuilds in your drive way lol. The Mazda 6 and the 3 have the same 2.3L engine so the starter is in the same spot. There may be different hoses or brackets in the way but the overall procedure should be the same. Good luck!
Thank you for the video, i reviewed it a few years ago to remove the starter off my daughter's 07 Milan, and now I need to replace it on my 07 Mazda6. Thanks again!
Thank you very much for your videos I have a Mazda six 2006 2.3 L and I love to watch your videos you have helped me so much and so many ways from even small things like removing the bumper you're a great guy thank you very much and happy wrenching
I'm having problems with me starter and I'm really hoping this works out for me. just gotta go starter hunting now. thanks for the tips I'll do the best I can to follow your tutorial thanks. 👍
MIL GRACIAS HOMBRE,USTED TIENE UNA TONELADA DE PACIENCIA Y CONTROL EMOCIONAL. DIOS SANTO QUÉ SÁDICO DISEÑO Y UBICÓ EL MOTOR DE ARRANQUE EN ESA POSICIÓN,ES DE LOCOS,..EN EL MALETERO SERÍA IDEAL 👍
It's a great video, I congratulate you for taking the time to teach us. I broke my base where you insert the little hose that is in the air filter cover. What is the use? What it does? as I can fix it?
Is the second piece of top studded bolt two pieces that require being taken out individually with a 13 millimeter socket? The second with a deeper socket to be able to get the stud in?
awesome video, I did watched this but that bolt was stripped and I had to buy 12 pt. deep socket end up paying a mechanic was a too much for me. Thanks for the vid.
I dare you work on this engine without swearing at it at least once. It was designed my sadists. Wait til you need to change your PCV valve, youre gonna love it!
Is the first connector the one with the red and yellow wire at 4:03 supposed to be stuck on the starter? I’ve unclipped the plastic tab and everything, also is my plastic tab supposed to be facing down to the ground i struggled so much because I struggled to unclip it because it was facing towards the sky
If going crazy with intermittent no start no crank first check beige connection wire and tab on starter, scratch inside slit with small screwdriver and use sandpaper on tab. Many times a corrosive film will develop and will prevent sufficeint power flow from activating the starter.
That little hose is part of the VAD (Variable Air Delivery) system. The hose goes from the air box to the VIS (Variable Induction System) shutter valve actuator. That actuator operates on vacuum pressure. If that hose is not connected to the air box, the actuator will remain closed at all times. You're gas mileage will probably go down a little bit but it should not affect how the car runs. I have no idea how to fix it though - glue maybe?
refer to this link for that. I have a 6s gen 1 and had to do it this way. Its still easy. www.6crew.com/forum/showthread.php?11288-How-to-remove-starter-from-mazda-6-3-0L
Please help: I have a issue with my 01 Mazda Protege starter .It won't start it's been giving a hard time.Any h tips? Firestone said it takes 468$ to get a new one and install it.Is is the wire or the starter itself?
It might be a good time to change the PCV valve from the bottom after removing the starter also.OTHERWISE its from the top & its an 8+ hour JOB to get to the PCV.
I'm trying on my 2007 CX-7, it's looking like the exhaust manifold will need to be removed to access the starter wire because I can't even see after removing air filter box, Anyone has a better way please let me know.
Hey so I changed out my starter. Now it sounds like the flywheel is not engaging. Starter motor sound high pitched like it's running at high rpms when I try to crank it. Any thoughts?
Sounds like your new starter is not the correct one or solenoid is stuck. Please make sure you have the correct replacement. Sub my channel if you want to learn more lots of videos are coming on mine. Thanks
+cdonlan155 The starter will be in the same spot. It is a different model starter so the electrical connectors are slightly different then what is in the video.
10mm socket for splash guard, philips driver for intake box, 13mm 3/8 wrench small ex for outer starter bolt n stud, 13mm box wrench for starter bolt, 14 mm socket small ex bracket to take starter out of bottom: 10mm socket, philips driver, 13mm socket, 13mm box wrench, 14mm socket, 3/8 wrench, 3/8 small extension
Thanks for the post I'll be attempting to change out my starter from my Mazda 6 today only difference is it's from a 2004 3.0 hope there isn't too much of a difference
Doesn't work so well for right hand drive, and if you have the replaceable paper element oil filter, not the canister type as shown. Starter has to come out to left side of vehicle - right won't work as shown due to oil cooler hoses and generally different AC, coolant and wiring looms. Excellent video to get you started (I'd never have seen the bracket bolt ...). Fiddly - very fiddly - but doable in a morning.
It's the same one the right hand drive. The steering has no difference on it. No, the oil filter is not in the way. Nothing is in the way. You don't have to remove the air cleaner to do this job either. I change them from underneath with a flex head ratchet. Whole job takes 15 to 20 minutes.
@@vinceking719 Must be a different spec. This was a Hong Kong spec (non Euro) & an automatic - it’s got oil cooler water hoses & AT cooler hoses & from memory an AC hose that couldn’t be pushed far enough out of the way. Never said PAS hoses were in the way. They are indeed identical LHD vs RHD. There was no way it was coming out the same way as the clip. Not a criticism, just an observation on the differences between MY car vs the one in the clip - in case it helped.
RevNoch Exactly the same. Just been under my 6 MPS (u.k) to tap the solenoid as it was stuck and wasnt starting. Works fine now, its not a long term fix though and this vid looks like its not too difficult a job to replace the whole unit.
justin .sorsby I attempted to do this, but I couldn't move the metal bracket enough to get off of the stud as is described at 3:30. The hose on it seems too short to move enough to pop off the stud.
Yeah it does seem that there isnt enough play to come off but it will. after taking the first nut off so the bracket is just resting on the stud I used the little bar that comes with the jack. use the end with 45 degree angle ( approx). stick it behind the bracket so the bar is leaning towards u then start to push the bar away gently from u while with your other hand pull the bracket towards you then it should just pop off. Ive just done it, new starter came today.
What a “gong show” to remove the starter. I got it out, but getting the replacement in is not going to be fun. Routing the wiring harness (which far from flexible) next to the starter was dumb on Mazda’s part! IMHO.
How do people enjoy mechanical work? What a pita. Should I assume the procedure is very similar for a 1st gen Ford Probe? That's what I have, and my starter's out.
Has to be newer model not as easy and doesn't show how to remove everything part for part. Sucks! Everything he's done is like the opossite of what I had to do on mine.
