Just an FYI I had the same issue with my 2004 2.3 replaced the cam sensor, no change, Sent the ECU off to be tested, came back good, the physical timing was off. The timing chain jumped timing on the front cam sprocket. I had a hell of a time diagnosing this but this actually was a common problem. Don't let the CEL codes throw you off. I wasted a lot of time and money not actually fixing the real issue

I changed the camshaft position sensor in my Mazda 6 2004 because it didn't start, and my scanner says that that was the problem, but even changing it still it doesn't turn on, can you help me out telling me why please?.

Never trust a scanner, it is only a guide, test after your hint from the scanner, typically this is done with an oscilloscope.

Hey Kirk, awesome video, thanks. I have a quick ?. Your video description includes code P0340. However, this code is for camshaft not crankshaft. Are u saying changing the crank shaft is also a solution for camshaft code P0340? Tnx.

I'm a technician i did replace the sensor also timing it. But the light won't go off all wiring ok. One last option is to replace the reluctor.

OBD what, OBDI, OBDII, OBDIII or CAN, make sure the scanner is up to date for your year of car, old scanner will not work. Need to test your OBD connector for power and ground, maybe you have a broken wire, the car will still work fine but your scan tool will not get proper power from the car to turn it on.

You need to take this video down. This is not the correct way to change the CPS. I hope no one watches this video and follows your faulty procedure, because they will most likely mess up their timing and risk the car not starting or running poorly and who knows what long term damage may be done if they don't realize their timing is slightly off. There is a reason why the mounting holes in the sensor are oval shaped, and that's because it needs to be positioned in an exact manner. Before you tighten the CPS down, you need to first position your crankshaft to #1 piston TDC using a special SST tool and then line up the center mark on the CPS with the dead centerline of the 20th tooth on the crankshaft pulley. There is also a procedure to measure the air gap as well, and make sure the sensor is an exact distance from the crankshaft pulley. So as you can see, you didn't do it correctly, and if your car runs fine, you basically just got lucky or you just don't realize that your timing is off a bit ... in any event, I wouldn't recommend that anyone follow the advice given here.

If you align it up exactly the way the old part was, it will be fine. Yes there is an exact procedure and it was not followed in this video nor was it followed in some professional videos selling parts but if you look at the old part and this new part installation, its super close. YES, he was lucky on this job, the old sensor was almost all the way down, maybe it was changed in the past ???

That is a bitch to find the connector, I had the mazda 6 too, such a pain in ass it is, the dealership factory did this on purpose so normal people like us can't do it our self.

The sensor is installed completely incorrect, you just messed up your timing. Each time you unbolt crankshaft position sensor you are supposed to put Cyl 1 to TDC by using special service tool and align the sensor with 20-th tooth on the crankshaft pulley.

I agree. This guy didn't set up the timing. There is a slot to lock up the crank pulley.
