In this video we install the Treadstone TR8 Front Mount Intercooler core with the JBR Piping kit. The upgraded CPE TMIC was perfectly fine, but we figured we would go front mounted because we ordered a Full Race Prostock exhaust manifold and wanted to reduce the potential for heat soak associated with a TMIC setup. Fitment was tight mainly in between the engine and front of the car. As was mentioned in the comments, JBR sells an under routed piping kit which we may go with in the near future for a cleaner look and hopefully less clearance issues, but this requires clocking of the turbo. You're right, I cant believe I didn't. I'm gonna do that, Thanks man:) It's nice that they sell the under routed hot pipes separately for 240 bucks, not bad!

installed the same setup last weekend except with the tr6. what a pita. i was as frustrated as you were installing it ha. i had to trim the cold pipe where it mounts to the intercooler because it was rubbing on the fog light. idk how you got the power steering cooler to fit with the bracket. i had to zip tie mine in on the passenger side to keep it off the hot side pipe. im considering buying an aftermarket p/s cooler to mount elsewhere instead of the gigantic line across the front. make sure your piping on the top of the engine is not bouncing up and down on the engine. i had to make a bracket to keep it secure on mine.

Yeah man it was such a pain to install! I'm really contemplating the under route kit. It seems simpler and should reduce boost air temps even more. The main area that had issues were on the hot pipe in between the engine and radiator rubbing against the AC lines. I had to zip tie the pipe in a certain position where it wouldn't touch them and try my best to bend them by hand. The JBR instructions outline the areas where the fog lights and lower bumper cover portions need to be cut for clearance. For the most part this setup should be good for a long time as long as you have solid motor mounts and nothing is rubbing :)

Yeah same problem with the power steering line (need to bend the hard line to fit) ... no way I can install it behind the core ... so it's in the front ... bad for the look. JBR doesn't mention it in their installation guide ... I got the Underpiping for more stealth look in the engine bay

I just checked on JBR's site and they advertise it to work with a clocked oem/bnr turbo. looks like I'm going under route lol. I love spending money lmao!

There are several intercooler kits on the market which make for a pretty easy install. In all honesty, I much prefer the under route piping. It's a shorter path, there's less heat soak into the pipes, and it's a cleaner look.

You'd probably have to modify the piping to the throttle body with some kind of coupler as the CS throttle body inlet is larger

The brackets you used to mount the tr8. Are they an off the shelf mount from tr8 or a vendor or something you got from the store? What is the size of them

Nothing at all! An upgraded TMIC actually flows very well. I was just concerned about possible fitment and heat soak issues when upgrading to a tubular exhaust manifold.

Just curious, is there any reason that rear bracket for the top mount stays on after the tmic is removed? (the one next to the exhaust headers) it seems like every fmic speed I see has that bracket still there and I’m wondering why.

The only purpose it serves for me is to retain the wiring harness that runs past it lol

Tbh the over the top piping was a very tight fit. I've since converted to JBR's under route piping kit. The cold side is also JBR, but it's been customized to accommodate 6th port aux fuel injection :)

I haven't ran either of them so I couldn't tell ya. I'd imagine that both are good in terms of efficiency, so the determining factor for which one to go with imo would be which one looks and fits better lol

Did you put a coupler on the pipe that runs by those ac lines ?

Yep there's a 90 degree coupler that connects the chrome pipe in between the radiator, to the black pipe going across the top

Wannabe Tuners I’m talking about about on the pipe itself around the middle. Reason for the question is if you don’t put a coupler by the ac line, You will rub a hole in the ac line. It happened to me and I wish someone would have told me before it happened lol

eric negron Ahh gotcha. I had it rubbing on the lower AC line but I caught it in time. I ended up using a big zip tie to pull it into a position where nothing is touching. I'm really considering the under route piping but I need to make sure it's do able by clocking the S4 as I read somewhere that a custom wg actuator bracket might be needed but that may be on the V1 S4.

How’d you take off the middle bolt/ clip holding the top mount hood shroud? I removed all 4 nuts already can’t get it off

As compared to the CPE TMIC, there was a very slight reduction in BAT's at WOT and while cruising, but nothing that really stood out. We did notice less heat soak into the intercooler when idling at a stop light, since the intercooler is no longer mounted on top of the engine. Also, the custom radiator ducting we made paired with JBR Raiders air dam, made a huge difference in directing air through the radiator and keeping coolant temps in check. In my opinion, an upgraded TMIC is just as good as a FMIC, but they each have their pros and cons. With an upgraded TMIC you'll experience slightly more heat soak when waiting at a stop light, but temps quickly drop down as you start to drive. You'll also experience slightly better transient response from the turbo due to less plumbing volume. With the FMIC you'll have less heat soak, a slightly cooler air charge (under route piping also helps with this), slightly increased coolant temps (unless you're running custom radiator ducting / JBR Raiders air dam), and slightly less transient response (which is negligible imo). But, working in the engine bay is much easier, and cosmetically it just looks way better :)
