Same. Never knew he performed at the White House. Cool to read about all the emotions/thoughts he was going through prior to his performance and then seeing this. Absolutely crushed it!
@@ephremmisaelmalapote957 Well going by the whole stupid Paul is dead theory, everything written after 1966, including Sgt Peppers was written by this guy.
I mean it's literally his job. At the beginning of the video he even noted that he has played every arena, club, venue in the area. He's also Dave Grohl.... I get your sentiment, but for him I don't think it took a lot of balls or nerves to get him up there.
@@schu1324 -- That was actually the easiest part, because he KNOWS that THEY won't fuck up; if anything, they'll hold him up if he does little mistakes...
From all accounts, Cobain did. I can't remember the interview or source, but I remember Cobain liking Grohl because he had musical aspirations beyond just joining Nirvana as their latest drummer.
Dave Grohl is very talented, and an all around humble, grateful nice guy. He’s got this real sincere, down to Earth way about himself. I’ve never been to a Foo Fighters live show, but all you need to do is watch any of tens/hundreds of their live concert videos and that personality comes right to the surface. For the concert goer, I could imagine him saying to the whole band, “guys these folks paid a lot of good, hard earned money to see us tonight, let’s give them every penny’s worth, ...with interest!”
Tony DeGregorio When the foo fighters first came out, I thought Dave was an obsessive control freak. He basically recorded all the tracks solo, and let the band play live. Which i couldnt understand. But Its all about creative control. and being obsessive. Fast forward quite a few years, and Ive come around.
Stevie is a musical genius and loved the work of his contemporaries like Beatles, Marley, and others, and respected them even when he was on top of the world.
I came back to watch this performance again because Dave talks about it in his book, The Storyteller. Highly recommend getting the audiobook, because Dave narrates it and I can only imagine it would completely ruin reading it manually. We're the same age and have some similar experiences and I just love his spirit and attitude in life. Fan forever.
Yes. Normally I would opt for the old fashioned way of reading it, but the way he narrates it is so much better of an experience than I would have had reading it on the pages.
I was impressed by the way his guitarist played the slide guitar licks at the end. It's hard to pull off on a regular guitar but he did it convincingly
sound like the original album? wtf this version is more like foo fighters cover, even guitar roles are played as in the ff cover. some arrangements are like the cover, and most of the little groove feel changes are like in the cover, not as they are presented in the album. this sound better, paul's band sound better than the original recordings.
He is. Dave, , Krist Novoselic, and Courtney Love drove halfway across Dallas during the last Nirvana tour just to show up for my band's soundcheck, talked to us for a little while, until they had to leave to get back to the arena. All 3 of them were very nice, very respectful, and very supportive. He's EARNED his place in music history.
We all know how much dave loves Paul. Probably practiced the crap out of this. Paul eventually inducted the foos into the rock and roll hall of fame. God bless Paul and Dave and the rest of the band. 😍😍🤩🤩🥰🥰
This is one of my favorite Dave Grohl performances of all time! Such a fun stomping version! And Dave looks so rad in his suit with his Pelham Blue Gibson. I just love this.
There's a lot of people that dont realise, if it wasn't for the Beatles, we wouldn't have a lot of the musicians we have today. Kudos for Dave Grohl keeping it alive!
He sings well and nails every drum part with absolute precision. Thats why he's playing with Paul McCartney. He's definitely not just an average drummer.
Dave absolutely nails this song. And Paul's band are as amazing as ever. Love the fact Paul's had the same line up of brilliant musicians all these years.
Have always been a 70’s rock fan and I love love music so have to find some new bands I like (all my favs are dying), recently discovered Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam and Nirvana. They aren’t spring chickens, but much younger than Dylan. First I had heard about him was when he was playing the Bee Gees for Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas City outside one of their concerts in the back of a truck.
After reading David’s book Storyteller, watching this performance, and reassessing the entirety of the Foo Fighters’ music catalogue, I’ve come to the realization that Dave Grohl is a God and legend in the rock world and his genius, which is currently underrated, will likely be recognized to the fullest extent years from now long after he’s done playing music. Not many other artists have had a career like Dave’s. He’s given us so many classics. Not to mention that he single-handedly recorded the entirety of FF’s first album within a year from Kurt’s passing, playing every instrument on the album and wasn’t pretentious enough to go in as a “solo artist”. Fucking cool.
Now then, Dave definitely delivered those powerful vocals of a young McCartney with all due respect! Hair dancing and power/skill full performanc👌 the drummer is just fantastic 👌
You should check out his biography that he just released about a month ago, such a good read! And he goes into detail about this performance as well as his time in Nirvana and Scream.
I had the pleasure of seeing Sir Paul a few years ago in Boston at Fenway. His band was amazing! The drummer is one of the most wonderfully animated people you will ever see play an instrument.
From a small punk band in the 80's, arriving in a grunge band in the 90's, starting as a drummer and now he is a frontman performing with every famous musician...a true story of self develop, my hero!
Dave Grohl is a class act and an incredibly talented musician/performer/songwriter, and over-all a seemingly, fantastic human being, as well. Great song, great performance, and an even better songwriter, Sir Paul McCartney. 😊
I can't get enough of this video. How do you cover one of the most iconic songs by a legend while he is front row center accompanied by the President, the President's family, and everyone else in the room ? Dave might even be able to answer that clearly.
Man, in 1983 I had a catastrophic motorcycle wreck, five weeks in the hospital, five surgeries and long term recovery stuck inside four walls and they played this song every single day........
@@luukeluketer1024 take up the guitar playing for 2yrs and you'll be close to Dave's guitar talent. Drumming. He,s a definite advanced player.. Not a bad singer..
Just finished listening to his audiobook after reading it for the first time as soon as it’s been released a year or so ago. Still amazing, all his stories still magnificient. And aparently, I’ve already been here earlier but the video is as amazing 😊
And Grohl goes for an amazing word by word note by note interpretation of the original .... with vocals that make 99.9 of all Rock singers green with envy Thank YOU Dave , few people can go to Paul and say " You SIR changed my life , you are the sountrack to my existence and for that I THANK YOU" you have done it for all of us.
wow, dave is awesome on this, really impressive vocals and guitar. i have got to go see more live music before i get any older. i mean not at the white house but still...
Did the song proud . Great rendition , great band . Provokes a thought that there is a bit of passing the torch here too . Just a cool video and a classically great tune . Well done David , and the rest of the band !
