If there's one thing that Dave and Paul have in common, they keep on keeping on inspite of terrible tragedies. I hope Dave and the surviving Foos heal and take their time to do it.
@@cadogangurung1824 Don't think it's a question of "better then". Whoever they pick should be given the freedom to bring his or her own personality and style of playing into the band, if it meshes well with the band. If Dave and the others are willing to do that, think whoever replaces Taylor will be successful. Hope also that fans of the band will also be willing to give the new person a chance.
There's basically no better person to be able to help Dave Grohl through his loss than Paul McCartney. A great kindness, and it's very encouraging to see Dave take him up on it.
Pauls not exactly the most compassionate person, look at how he reacted at john Lennon's death he was even chewing gum when they interviewed him looking like he didn't care at all.
I remember seeing interviews with Dave where he talked about how painful playing music was after Kurt’s death. I thought after Taylor’s untimely passing it may be too much to bear. Wonderful to see Paul helping a friend heal now a time of need. Much love to Dave and the music I hope he makes as time goes on!
I imagine Dave has a much better support system (and hopefully a therapist) to help him through the grief this time. But still I can't imagine what he's going through
Paul McCartney is 80 years old here and still singing in the same key in which his catalog was recorded originally. It’s impossible to overstate how bonkers that is.
@alanjones5786 you could scream in the same key or gargle with sandpaper in the same key but it doesn't mean u can sing. Trouble is, these people are fanatical about him.
To see Paul McCartney doing his thing after all these years, AND seeing Dave Grohl getting up on stage after his terrible loss is nothing less than awesome.
i see a tiny bit of sadness in Grohl's eyes too but we all understand why the sadness is there. I admire him for getting on a stage at a difficult time like this.
You can see the pain Dave is playing through here, but with Paul by his side he plays on. The little nods Paul gives him of encouragement shows how much he knows this pain personally. We love you Dave.
@@danduntz9112 the point was first time seeing Dave since Hawkins died, and shows up with the greatest musician of all time, does band in the run and the grief of it all. Melodramatic scripted rock star stuff. Don’t get me wrong I love Dave. But this is all planned out.
Watching Paul it was clear this performance was designed to do nothing more than try to give Dave a little joy. Paul directed all energies at Dave and he tried a couple times with his unique nonverbal communication skills to help Dave realize that this cal still be fun, and asked the fans to send him that energy as well. I think I detected that Dave was choked up a couple times when he stopped back into the shadows. Paul is just a gift to us all, isn't he? Have you even seen him being anything but honest and kind to people? Hang in there, Dave, It really does get better every day.
Frankly i dislike nirvana but what dave have been through and then paul helped him with played again are just beyond humanity, beyond friendship, beyond music, and coincidentally the title of the song band on the run for them who choose to still alive
@@epinhervin9355 I never liked Nirvana either. So I gave the Foo Fighters some side eye at the beginning. But once I started listening I got, that’s just good rock & roll! Dave has a great personality too. Funny as hell. Just watch the “Learning to Fly” video with Jack Black. Dave’s a comedian, too!
I’m nearly 16 and I’ve been a big Beatles fan since 2020. Been listening to a lot of Paul’s solo music since the start of this year and I love band in the run so much. I’ve also been a big foo fighters fan for a while and Dave grohl sounds great!
If anyone doesn't think they were best friends, John said in an interview in the early 70's that Paul was his best friend aside from Yoko ("best male friend") but they didn't see each other anymore. So Paul kind of lost him twice. Started getting their friendship back together in the late 70's and 1980, and then lost him permanently.
You know what? I didn't even read your comment and I got ON the comments section just to say that I SOOO f'ng love that Paul did this and got Dave up there. God, Dave, don't give it up. You WOULD have done the impossible....if you COULD, but you could not and only because you are human. Keep going. We gotta keep going. Taylor would have been devastated if you hung it all up after March 25th. He KNOWS this!
@@daconfi1453 For context Dave Grohl is the one who was singing with Paul in the video and what they mean by "this must have been like therapy for him" is that the drummer from his band the Foo Fighters had just died and they knew each other for years so he was likely still mourning over the loss.
Dude, don’t try and play amateur psychologist. Dave was probably just trying not to freak out as he is playing Band on the Run with Paul McCartney at Glastonbury Festival
Estoy de acuerdo; pienso que Dave iba a volver al escenario por primera vez para homenajear a su gran amigo y hermano Taylor Hawkins; pero a ésta invitación de Sir. Paul, no se podía negar. ¡Inmensos ambos! ⭐
It was great to see Dave back on the stage playing again. It is going to take time for him and the rest of the band. Thank you Paul for helping Dave. What a kind thing to do for a friend.
When Dave Grohl joined Nirvana in 1990, Paul McCartney was 48 years old. Dave Grohl in this video is 53. It's amazing to see that these two have formed such a friendship, and I can only imagine how valuable a friend like Paul would be when you're mourning the loss of a bandmate and a brother.
They give them to people in sports who don't do that much but people other people can go a long time without getting one. I wish we would get rid of the Royalty instead because they're are embarrassing

I couldn't click on this fast enough, I'll speak for millions of us, we all need to see Dave on stage healing and continuing the journey, Taylor would've wanted that and I pray the rest of the guys are going to continue the Foo Fighters when they're ready✌️💙
The genius Paul McCartney is 80 and he still can hit those incredible high notes. That man's not from this world. And our dear Dave, you are an example. Such an incredible musician and an amazing person. Hugs from Spain to everyone.
When Grohl stepped on stage, my heart flipped, and I cried. I was just SO FUCKING HAPPY to see that Dave was OK, following the sadness of Taylor. And I absolutely appreciate Macca being a mentor through such a turbulent time in Dave’s life. A good reminder to have solid friends in your life who will guide you through the toughest of times.
I can't even imagine how difficult it is for Dave to be performing without his partner in crime. My hat is off to him and for Paul helping him heal, and to get back on the horse and ride again as I'm sure Taylor would want him to. Very touching performance. I hope Dave continues his journey in healing!
100% I know they are mates generally, but I'm so sure that this is why Paul invited Dave to play this set! It's a lovely thing to do. And I'm pretty sure that Paul will show up at the Hawkins memorial concert also!
I watched the whole show and it was truly brilliant - Paul McCartney is a living legend - You know you're very special when Dave Grohl and Bruce Springsteen turn up to jam with you on stage
Dave didn’t just ‘show up’. As he & Paul are friends I’m sure Paul strongly urged Dave to be there. Watching Dave as of right now.. his spark is greatly dimmed. My god, we as fans miss Taylor deeply. But damn, we weren’t making music, hanging out, just on tour, ect..💔🥁
At 80 he’s still hitting every song in the original key! Yes he’s not perfect like he was years back, but mate I struggle with these notes and I’m 30 🤣
@1:48 Nothing says ''I'm here for you, Dave" better than McCartney's concerned gaze. NcCartney genuinely cares for Grohl. Both of them share a special, incredibly gut wrenching and unique bond-ie the devastating loss and unbelievable pain garnered after the loss of their primary musical partner. It's a pain only they truly understand right now. Prayers up right now, for both musical giants...
The energy Paul is still able to put out is amazing. My son and I saw him recently in Knoxville, 36 songs and 2 and half hours later, he was still going strong!
Last set I saw him play end of Dec 2018 was 3 hrs 15 mins, nit even a coffee break! He is incredible! The Beatles usd to often drive past our home in London, didn't even think almost 60 years later Paul would have become the legend he is!
A tear and a smile come as I realize this man has been on my soundtrack for over 50 years. Thank you, Paul, from the deepest part of my heart and soul.
Seeing Dave back on stage is amazing and probably somewhat healing for him. Seeing Macca still going out there and not phoning it in but playing the bass and singing his heart out for 2+ hours at 80 years old…🥺
Sir Paul is lovingly acknowledging Dave’s absence from the stage. While signaling the music world’s yearning for his eventual re-emergence under the lights, he gently shifts a lyric and deliberately points to him for emphasis…”the town is searching for YOU everywhere…”
The very same Dave that wouldn't allow any fan who had done their research and refused to be experimented on into his shows. Yeaaaaah, he's so fantastic.
When I'm sad, I listen to Foo Fighters. When Dave's sad, he probably listen to The Beatles. This invitation is a beautiful gesture by Sir Paul and I hope it helps Dave healing process
Whatever forces were at work to help Dave feel this would be the safest, most loving space to be out on a stage singing rock and roll again, god bless. This did so many hearts good. Paul 4 Ever.
So nice of Paul to have invited Dave to play with him and on such important stage... I saw the Foos' last live show so far on Lollapalooza Argentina and they were on fire! Hope they are doing ok now.
The very same Dave that wouldn't allow any fan who had done their research and refused to be experimented on into his shows. Yeaaaaah, he's so fantastic.
It's good that Dave is out there on stage and singing and playing his heart out with legendary Paul!! It's nice to Dave, keep singing and playing, music heals !! Thank you for sharing this awesome video RIP Taylor Hawkins 😇 FOREVER REMEMBERED AND NEVER EVER FORGOTTEN 💝🌹
What a living legend this guy is, and what a true survivor. The Beatles literally changed the face of music in the sixties and created the new sound that directly or indirectly inspired most of the bands of today. It’s been a journey of extreme highs and lows, from the top of the music scene down to losing Linda, John and George, escaping the clutches of a vampire, and yet somehow he rises above it all, and here he a 80 is still doing what he’s always done best. So the voice may not be quite what it used to be, but when it’s Paul McCartney up there performing the soundtrack of our lives, who cares about that!
His slightly faltering voice is better than almost any newer artist today. And he still go effortlessly into the best screaming of any vocalist this side of Little Richard.
@@justiceforjamespaulmccartney I know that. The same media who tell us that this is actually Macca, would also like us to believe Elvis is dead, which is clearly ridiculous; I’ve never felt better in my life.
Dave being Dave, you just know that he's had some incredible jams with some incredible people when he's needed friends to help him get though some tough times. And I love how many of those friends are also his childhood heroes.
"Uncle" Paul has been with me through so many good and bad times in my life, it just seems natural for him to be standing by Dave at this time as well. A beautiful moment.
This is amazing; thank you Mr. McCartney for getting Mr. Grohl back on the stage. I can still see the pain in his face, but you did a good thing and this is a treasured performance. Mr. Grohl, part of the reason you are so loved is because you love. Keep on keeping on, beautiful man.
Can see the love between these two. Had very similar careers, both been in bands that defined a generation, both had sucess afterwards that will probably be not remembered as it should be in music history and both lost bandmates in tragic circumstances. Paul is probably one of the few people that understands what Dave is going through.
They have been good friends and sang together many times before,I loved that the Foo's got Paul to join them when they were inducted into Hall of fame.
what do you mean they won't be remembered as they should be in music history? I know Paul will and the Beatles, they already ARE nearly 60 years on. I would hope it would be the same for Dave Grohl, the Foo Fighters and Nirvana. Time will tell.
@@patticrichton1135 OP said "both had been in bands that defined a generation" that he then followed it up "both had success afterwards that will probably not remembered as it should be", "it" meaning "success after their generation defining bands". OP is just saying that their careers after The Beatles/Nirvana will never get the full credit they deserve because of how massively important those bands were. He's not casting doubt on either of these men's legacies, or The Beatle's/Nirvana's contributions.

An amazing collaboration for a phenomenal song. Two brilliant moments for me. First is at 4.21 when Paul pointed to Dave saying the 'town were searching for you everywhere' which I believe was Paul showing his respect to Dave who was fully engrossed in the moment to notice it. And then that eye contact between them both at 4.42 with Dave nodding his head was, just, in my humble opinion, the two acknowledging their regard for each other. Fantastic.
Beyond the unique one in a billion musical genius is Paul McCartney’s true super power: he **uplifts** people. Thank you Macca for helping Dave in his time of need, you are a good soul ♥️
I’m jealous of all the people here who judging by their comments will clearly still have the exact same singing voice after 65 years of performing constantly
@@sgtrevolver ABSOLUTELY. Paul has been singing since he was 15 years old, and then with WINGS and all his SOLO concerts since 1976, he sings EVERY SONG (with the exception of a song or two in Wings sung by Denny Laine and Jimmy McCulloch) for over 2 hours NO intermission. You would EXPECT for his voice to decline by time he's 80. He's not going to sound like he did when he was 24. GIVE HIM A BREAK
Genuinely brings a tear to my eye. Paul you’re such a living legend. Gracing is with such brilliance even into your 80s. I think if there was an icon who deserved to be up there with Paul it’s Dave, god knows he’s earned it too. What a special moment.
The youngest star at Glastonbury, Billie Eilish stated that Paul's songs were 95% her inspiration. This performance by Paul was perhaps the greatest performance ever at Glastonbury. Just like Carpool Karaoke, Paul gave us the best episode ever. Love the moment when Dave and Bruce Springsteen looked at Paul with puppy dog eyes. There they were on stage with their idol. What a fab show. What a memorable night.
With Paul & Dave (& their wives) being good friends.. I imagine Paul rather insisted Dave get back out. Dave putting up a good front but he’s still reeling from Taylor.. 💔💔

"Love the moment when Dave and Bruce Springsteen looked at Paul with puppy dog eyes". I was trying to say something about the way Dave looks at Paul. Why trying any further if this is the best anyone can say about it?
Is it weird that I teared up a little watching this.... Welcome back Dave, it's been a tough year. Class act Paul, inviting Dave to play. I've had a hard time listening to any FooFighters songs as soon as Taylor's drumming kicks in. He was such an amazing drummer. I can't even begin to wonder how the band mates and friends feel. Sending love & support from Buffalo!
So glad to see Dave playing. It almost brings me to tears to think about what he has been going through yet again. Great guys, great musicians. Long live Dave and Paul.
In spite of all the turmoil in our world, we have Paul and his fabulous band to soothe our souls, and sweet Dave Grohl on the road to healing. Love this!! 💜
I watch this and know, he must've screamed a thousand times into the night, both of them did, crawl back out of the hell they were in strap on their instrument and pour the pain and tears into every song, now every time they sing those songs it's there, still vital, never forgotten but cherished in a sound.
You know, after how hard this year has been on Dave, I'd like to think that Paul might have been able to ease his pain just a little. Both of them know what it's like to love their musical brothers and that is something I imagine you can only relate to if you've had to go thru it. I hope that Dave is doing ok, and that he knows just how much his fans are all supporting him through this.
It's amazing when the musicians write lyrics that become engrained in people's lives and later in passing years they all join in to remember to good times. Just love it.
His voice is not the same, but heck 80yrs old but seems 50...he also has greatest song list...seeing him perform and be so incredibly good, it matters not a bit....

This is so crazy to watch, it's like sitting in on someone's therapy session. The way Dave opens up and gets more joyful the more the song progresses is so uplifting to see.
This is an exceptional performance. I was fortunate enough to be there in person (quite close to the stage too). I felt this was a piece of genuine musical history being created in front of me.
Coming towards the end of 22 , I reflect on my highlights from the year, myself and my 17 yr old son where 20ft from this performance front and centre on that glorious night, I will never forget this night, and he said to me after it, it was one of his greatest experiences he has ever had, peace unity love and having fun is what life is all about.
I will never get tired of this performance. Band on the Run is a different kind of tune, simply magnificent. I love Paul, his music changed my life forever. Thank you, Paul.
My heart goes out to Dave, we are all still grieving the untimely demise of Taylor and Paul managed to bring dear Dave back on stage. Thanks to both eternally!
I love that Mr. McCartney & Mr. Grohl are good friends…it never gets old to me to hear Dave pour his love and praise out for Paul, and his humility in knowing that this guy he’s loved most of his life is now not only a mentor, but a friend. Dave looks at Paul often with that ‘is this real’ vocation. It’s really a great story!
I always loved the songs that Paul wrote for the Wings where they were like medleys really, such as this classic. Great to see Dave Grohl featured on this too. Must’ve cheered him up immensely after losing his brother (the two were close like brothers), friend and bandmate Taylor Hawkins.
The healing power of music. It’s so great to see Dave Grohl on stage again after his loss. And how decent is it for Macca to help him get through his grief like this. Very kind and sweet moments! 👏🏻🎸😎
