I miss the powder addons they had for a little bit here in the US, they were all really good. McDonald's did it a couple years ago, there was a garlic parmesian, ranch, and spicy buffalo. I THINK some locations had a fourth one too, but I don't remember.

They used to have fry seasoning packets at Burger King about twenty years ago. They didn't come in any particular flavor. They were just a unique blend of spices that tasted delicious on the fries. I was so disappointed when they discontinued them.

I think burger King used to have a cheese powder thing. Found out you can just use a cheap Mac and cheese sauce powder and it tastes just the same!

At one point, Burger King (not McDonalds) offered several different flavours to shake into their fries. I seem to remember a powered cheese(with salt), which was fucking amazing. They gave you a little paper bag and if you got fresh fries hot from the oil and shook them they were the bomb.

i think you could recreate that by using mac and cheese powder and asking for fresh fries (i never had them so they could be a different cheese powder but thats what i feel like theyd use)

emmymadeinjapan I lived in Cali from 2014 to 2016 and McDonalds had barbecue, ranch, and parmesan and garlic shake shake flavors for fries and/or nuggets. Don't know how widespread it was.

They actually used to have french fry seasoning packets at Burger King in the U.S, for a time in the '90's. I loved it. I forget what was in them. I think it was just a mix of paprika, black pepper and some other stuff. I was so disappointed when they discontinued it. Emmy, you should do a video on how to make a similar spice mix for fries.

They're one of my favorite seasonings they done in the past 2 years! the other really good one had honey, soy sauce, poppy seeds, and something else in it~ it was a syrupy texture. Love these fry seasoning packets. In Singapore, there's Thai shaker fries, Seaweed shaker fries, depending on the promotional flavour (Prosperity burger, Samurai Burger, Nasi Lemak Burger), they all come with twister fries or shaker fries. Awesome, but a lot of MSG.

Most of the local supermarkets here in my home city in NZ in the deli section sell cooked chips (fries) and you can choose to have them put chicken salt on them instead of normal salt. My local convenience store that we call a Dairy here in NZ offers that option on their ones also.

Over here in Sweden, McDonalds have had tex-mex flavoured dishes for limited times, including fries with tex-mex flavour powder and a bag. The burger "El Maco" had tomato salsa.

I visited Japan this past spring (late March/early April) and they had a limited time sakura flavored seasoning. It went great with an ebi burger and (also limited) sakura soda.

In singapore we have seaweed, chilli, truffle and cheese shaker powder. But we only have it at a limited time and you can only have the shaker if you order a large fries and seaweed is our all time favourite shaker. hah !

I actually grew up pouring and shaking furikake with my mickey d's fries! My mom learned to do this when she had first immigrated from Korea to Hawaii. She would also avoid using the entire powder packets from ramen, citing health reasons, but still save them and use that to shake up our homemade fries. :D I had no idea the ones you got were even available in Japan, or anywhere else for that matter.

Rice....I like to use the zest of an orange and add it to the rice before I cook it in my rice cooker and it is freaking awesome...if you've never done this give it a shot I bet your boys will love it too.....I experiment a lot with rice and I've found the orange zest to be the best so far

Wienerschnitzel used to have shaker fries I’m gonna say a good 20 years ago. I remember buying them on my way home from school. Flavors were original like a Lawry’s seasoned salt, ranch (obvi), and one more flavor I can’t remember which though, maybe cheese. I just remember there were three flavors altogether!

In Singapore, we have Seaweed, Truffle, Chilli Crab and many more seasonings! Just upsize the meal and you'd automatically get the packet !! 😊 It is really delicious.

At my local McDonald's, about 4 or 5 years ago I think, they did offer "Shakin Fries" for a limited time. The flavors were garlic parmesan, spicy buffalo and zesty ranch. I remember when I purchased them, I received the seasoning packet along with a shakin' bag to season the fries in. Interestingly enough, I was told many years ago that this particular McDonald's tested out some menu items once in a while. They had once sold McDonald's panini sandwiches which I loved because there was a vegetarian option.

In the SF bay area, we've had "Gilroy garlic" fries at McDonald's, but it isn't just a seasoning. It has real garlic bits, herbs and butter. I don't think Americans in general would like to shake on their own flavoring.

I had seasoned fries before but I had them at McDonalds in Hong Kong. They were seaweed flavor. They were definitely my favorite seasoning/flavor.

in singapore we've had seaweed shaker fries (this one comes back kinda annually due to popular demand bc it really is stinkin good), also cheese and truffle, cheese, sesame and probably some more i can't seem remember haha!

We call them shaker fries here in Singapore. It's not always on the menu cause they only appear for a few months. The flavours are pretty interesting: seaweed (everyone's fave), truffle, citrus thai, cheese, roasted sesame with seaweed, and there was honey chipotle a few years back. I love me some plain fries but the seaweed one makes them even better haha xD

I'm from Canada and I've never seen any flavoured fries from McDonald's. I live in Quebec but there might be some in other provinces, they adapt the menu to whatever's popular in a particular region.

Emmy, try using plain mayo as a fry dip. I tried that years ago, and found that I really liked it. You might also try other dips, like the ketchup and mayo fry sauce, ranch dressing, tarter sauce, AND the old dip them in your milkshake routine. Are you ever going to invite your hubby to join you taste testing stuff? And maybe your kids too? That would be cool! Keep having fun!

I bet there are TONS of "seasonings" you could use! Ranch/onion/pretzel? dip, Taco/Burrito/Fajita/Takis?, Steak/Chicken, Seasoning Salt (I think there's a couple places that use that already), Chili, Chinese 5 spice, or Satay spice, Maybe even something sweet? Like Cinnamon and Sugar and dip them in warm caramel. Now THAT sounds good!

In malaysia, we have chilli flakes, cheese or seaweed to be pour on those McD fries. But the shake shake fries is seasonal. We cannot get it all the time.
