You should get equal treatment regardless of asking for a receipt. You should ask for a receipt so you can prove they fucked up your order.

While asking for a receipt might get you better food/service, I find more often I have to check the bag before I drive away to make sure what I ordered is actually in the bag. After a couple of times of getting home and finding items missing I always check the bag now.

My mom always asks for a receipt because she knows the McDonald’s we go to, always messes up our order. 😂

I used to work with a McDonald's Drive-Thru employee who said she'd always add something to at least one person's meal bill - she'd charge THEM for a McChicken and that was her dinner every night. If they asked for the receipt then it was "Our printer is Out of Order" There are far bigger reasons to check receipts

I once worked with the guy at McDonald’s who worked in the drive-through, and he would always add a dollar onto whatever total he gave the customer. He would make anywhere from $25-$50 extra each shift and if the customer noticed he would just play it off like he made a mistake then give back the correct change. THAT’S why you should always ask for a receipt.

I work at McDonalds and we always give people a receipt anyway because they need it for the number to collect their order lmao - and we’ve never been told anything about this mystery shopper shit, front counter doesn’t go to kitchen like “guys, i think we have a mystery shopper - make sure its EXTRA fresh” lmao, especially when it’s busy we wouldn’t have the time to do that.

Hi I’ve worked in both fast food and restaurant business, and I can say don’t just ask for a receipt. Ask for an /itemized/ receipt. I didn’t have a problem with that when working fast food but the first restaurant I worked for would slip in appetizers or small plates on people’s bills in case some of the servers didn’t reach a quota. I caught this when talking to my manager one day, and a server was complaining about someone’s bill not being high enough and asked her “can you put a small dish on there that’s what the other manager does.”

Oh I thought it was to use the receipt as a thing to put your fries on so the grease doesn’t get everywhere

I work at McDonald’s: this is such bullshit. We have to give everyone a receipt so they can’t ask for stuff they didn’t pay for at the pick up window. The only way you’ll get any kind of special treatment is if you’re the owner of that store or you work there

I knew a guy who was an assistant manager at a fast food restaurant. He said that if someone didn’t ask for a receipt and paid cash at a drive through window the person at the register would often type in a pro code and pocket the money. He said their were not any cameras and they didn’t take inventory. I would think that has changed since then.

At my location, we use kiosks so every costumer gets a receipt anyways, and the way we tell if we have a “mystery shopper,” is if we spot someone come into the lobby and then go through the drive thru, or vice versa. They check both for times and quality, so they always go to both.

In addition, the receipt tastes better than the burger.

I'm currently an employee at McDonald's and have been working there for 2 years, Over the past year we have replaced the "gap" as we called it for a different procedure.

Last time I ordered two filet-o-fish sandwiches, ones bun was stuck at the lid and the other ones bun was so hard I thought it was toasted but I kinda liked it lol. I don‘t expect quality from mcdonalds anyways.

I work at McDonald's, and i can safely say this is nonsense. Ignoring the fact that we always give out the receipt unless its a drive thru order, we don't give special treatment to anyone whether they ask for it or not.

When I order take-out (which is always), I never ask for my receipt, but I still get it every single time. They always put the receipt in the bag.

I always get a receipt because the McD's I usually go to almost always screws up my order.

There is another reason to ask for a receipt, and not just at McDonald's. Sometimes (or all the time, based on the fast food chain) the bottom of the receipt has what they call a "bounce back" coupon. Fill out a short online survey and you get a code number to write in the blank at the bottom of the receipt. Such coupons can be for free food items with no purchase necessary, with purchase necessary, buy-one-get-one free, etc.

I once waited over 30 minutes in a not crowded McDonald’s for my food. Burger wasnt as ordered and fries were cold. Asked to speak to manager. Suddenly it only took five minutes to get my food correct, hot, and ready. She threw in an extra medium fries too. Going to the manager, if it takes too long, or if you see the manager working a register-that’s how you get your food done right.

This is about the silliest video I've seen in years. Whenever I go to a McDonald's a Wendy's a Burger King or whatever, they GIVE me a receipt before they give me the meal...and the receipt has a number on it, and they call that number out when my order is ready. So I don't ASK for a receipt; they automatically give it to me.

I/my mom has and will always ask for the receipt not to rate the fast food chain but to make sure they got the order correct because they occasionally got the order wrong by missing something, putting things in when we specifically asked not to, or giving the wrong order. nobody goes to TACO BELL in the morning, but when you do, their burrito wraps are soft, warm and the meat if fresh.

There's also another reason to always ask for a receipt. One time I was at a Carl's Junior and the cashier seemed nervous and I wanted to make sure he didn't make a mistake with my order so I asked for the receipt and it showed a charge of $73 for one meal combination. He was going to pocket the difference! I made him give me the extra money. So always ask for your receipt wherever you buy your food at. They're counting on you not checking this out until it's too late

I used to work for McDonald's for 3 years.....and I've hardly seen any secret shoppers and we generally gave EVERY customer a receipt!!!! No offense but most of my co-workers and managers were kinda dumb and the buttload of stupid and homeless and mean customers meant that the overall experience and service and everything was DUMB. EDIT: *glares at like count* of course I know you normally cannot find a secret shopper, but I would VERY rarely overhear managers talking about a secret shopper report that was VERY dissatisfied. ALSO. you know the survey link on the receipt??? in the break-room in the back, there would be a printout of the survey comments, mostly complaining about how inaccurate their order was, or how long it took to get their food, and a lot about the bad attitudes of the employees. it also said that our overall accuracy was around 40%. if you did a really bad job more than likely the customer would remember your name and mention it in the comments.......and I've NEVER had my name mentioned.....

I work at McDonald’s in the US and you need to ALWAYS ask for a receipt cause orders and get messed up easy! Especially when u have upset customers complaining when the place is busy lol

In fast food franchises here, including Mcdonalds they give you a receipt with a number on it, when your number shows on a screen your order is ready so you approach the counter and take your food. This means, asking for a receipt is redundant, because everyone gets a receipt every time.

There are customers who yell at me for not handing out a certain item they didn’t even pay for. When I ask them for the receipt, they either don’t have them or they won’t admit to their mistake. I mean, I have a screen that displays your order and there are no fries listed with your food, Nancy!

Quick tip rather than filling out a questionnaire for food on receipt make 5 numbers that equal something that can be divisible by 3 to equal 3 just by adding the two numbers i.e 59121 which is 18, 1+8=9, 9/3=3

Asking for the receipt does not make them think you are the secret shopper and I know this as a fact I only ask for the receipt because my local McDonald’s keeps screwing up my order and I want proof that I paid for an item.

In Australia we get our receipt all the time (it’s also has a number on it and when that number is called, you collect your food)

German McDonalds always gives you a receipt, sometimes they contain the door codes for the toilet (to make sure only customers can use them) but they always have the receipt on the tray with your food.

ice cream machines at McDonald's are always broken cuz they don't replace them or the employees aren't trained how to put it together correctly after cleaning which is a 5-6 hour process to clean and put it back together correctly so it'll work ( used to work at one)

I've been a mystery shopper for Maritz, Inc, and they're right, those are the peak hours they want us to do shops in, and we do have to provide receipts if we want reimbursement.

i went to my local mc donalds last week at 12:00 pm and they had the audacity to give me half fried fries and a cold big mac.....they gave me unfresh food so many times that i can only remember having fresh food once a month

When its at rush hour times, the food will be fresh anyways....do this around 3pm or 45 min before the store closes to see what kind of food they will serve....ive seen refried fries, hamburger patties back on the grill, but those were in the bin of food days

i worked at mcdonalds for a year and whether or not you asked for a receipt you’ll get treated the same. how it works is, you don’t want your receipt? we throw it away. you want your receipt? we give it to you. we don’t go through the whole store yelling, “HEY THIS PERSON WANTS THE RECEIPT GIVE THEM EVERYTHING FRESH!” we just give you it and have you go on with your day this isn’t equivalent to treating you like royalty 😐

I always ask for a receipt because I want to know what I'm charged. FOR the record, I was a secret shopper when I was 19! Secret shoppers can look like anyone, big, small, young, older, people with lots of children! They hide in plain sight and you'd never guess who they are!😉 Be kind to everyone.

Not sure if this only pertains to the UK, but in the US its close to 100% you get receipts with your order.

I don't know how old this is but McDonald's doesn't use mystery shoppers any more. And the person who makes your sandwich isn't the same person who cashes you out so they wont know you even asked. If you want fresh food the secret is to just ask for fresh food.

I got scammed we asked for 3 fries and we got 2 we asked for 40 peaced chicken nuggets and got 20 chicken nuggets because we didn't look in the bag before we left so always do that when you are in a restaurant

I worked at Wendy's in High school and this is absolutely true. Yes everybody gets a receipt, WE GET IT. No need to beat a dead horse people. It's when you haven't even left the big speaker and you ask for a receipt, it alarms us. Or when you get to window to pay and then stare at the receipt before pulling up to next window and you're in business attire and we can see a clipboard in passenger seat, we get alarmed. Most of the time we know what the inspector looks like and what they drive. The front register person alerts the back crew when they see them pull around. That inspector had the freshest fries that sat upright in the bag, best made burger and ice to soda ratio was on point. This is all true. May not work everywhere, most places know who the inspector is and sound like.

Many of us grew up on McDonald's back in the 70's and we keep hoping that we'll go in there and get the same quality as back then. So far we haven't.

Managers are too busy to actually worry about this, BUT when after a secret shopper visit occurs they can be informed of their results right away by a simple phone call.

This ended mid 2017. Gapbusters were abolished in place of Food for Thought. Now, it is based on the ratings given by customers as opposed to mystery shoppers because it works out cheaper this way. I remember being pushed to get good results for our last gapbuster as it would be our last shot at getting store benefits. People who attempt this trick now get no benefits

You Are Supposed To Get FRESH FOOD & HOT FRIES EVERYTIME, No Matter who you are or what time you eat there, that's what The Customer is PAYING FOR.

It's common courtesy to get a receipt or give us the option to press a button of yes or no at the speaker booth to print it out at the window

Mystery shoppers for McDonald's have to evaluate the bathroom before they place their order inside the store. They also make a purchase through the Drive-Thru before coming inside to place another order. These are, by far, more telling than if someone simply asks for a receipt. Also most regular employees are only doing one very specific job during rushes (taking orders or making fries for example) and don't really care or even think about mystery shoppers, especially during rushes. It's really only the managers that MAY care if you are a mystery shopper.

Get your food and go. Don’t unnecessarily pressure these workers any more than they are already
