These doctors are not just great educators, they have a lovely, kind manner too, they are literally lifesavers. My friend, who was a carnivore, is now listening to their advice and gradually switching to a whole food plant based diet, she's the last person that I thought could be persuaded to change. All of us can make a difference, WFPB is the lifestyle of the future
That's encouraging. One of my brothers does keto and carnivore, swapping weeks, and he gets aggressive and upset if I talk about studies that disagree with those diets. Unfortunately he is giving advice to other people in the family that are overweight and having health problems. They believe him over me because they share te same worldviews.
@@foggypatchfarm6048 , let's see how long he can keep the weight off. I was sick as a dog doing keto diet, constantly having diarrhea & living on Imodium! Also I was constantly craving sweets & carbs.
Dr McDougal said in an interview that carnivores look like the animals they eat, they could be very vicious or look like Dr. Chafee his eyes look like the dead cows hes eating. His eyes dont show vitality & life force.
Great discussion. Especially liked how you explained how moderation is not always a good thing. Very clear easy to understand just a wonderful presenter and presentation.
I am from Italy and here is the land of olive oil. But I follow McDougall plan and eat olive oil really sparsely, only on Sundays. Just a teaspoon on my Macco of fava beans. My Grandfather and my Grandmother had olives garden, and produced and used it, but they led (an happy) but physically challenging life. No processed foods and no washing machine at their times. And no water heater, so they washed themselves with cold water every morning even in winter times. Everything had to be done by hand. And even if I hit the gym 4 or 5 times a week, I fell that I do no more than 50% of the physical activity that they used to.
@@jgrysiak6566 I don't like oil at all and never eat it except maybe a few days a year. I don't even like nuts or seeds. But I think Dr. Avi debunked Dr. Esselstyn on olive oil when it comes to heart disease.
Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. T. Colin Campbell, the list keeps going on, have not changed their positions in close to over 50 years….
I really think this is a very important information - eat whole plant food - avoid processed food - or minimalize it as much as possible. This means you must learn how to cook with no oils and very little salt and sugar or idealby SOS FREE .... 🍀💚🐸
There are studies linking intake of fried food with violent behavior. Frightening prospect when you see the number of fast food commercials and the target group is the young.
That's why we need to be understanding when people are reluctant to take big dietary steps. They feel like those big steps are hard enough on their own, but they are scared they will later wrong those steps did more harm than good because so many people say so many things
Sound Advice! Great Advice! Facts are stubborn things. We all have a choice. Knowing the facts allows us to make an informed choice. It's up to you, to do the thing that's best for you. To choose the kind of life you'll live; What you will get from life and give. Choose well the things that you will do. It's up to you; it's up to you. Thanks for this.
@@jgrysiak6566 If you're already eating 50-200 grams of fiber a day and eat plenty of other whole grains and legumes, do you think it really makes a difference at that point if you pick white rice over brown?
Yes I saw some marathoner use fats or oil as there high calories intake and I see one marathoner use fruits it`s the best he tried for all the diet he tested.
I feel MORE satiated on less food when I eat fat, and the weird thing is that I lose weight when I eat fat. The moment I remove all fat from my diet, I have to cut way back on calories or I put on weight easily. I thought I was imaging it at first, but I've tested it numerous times. My metabolism slows way down when I eat very low fat. Now, I don't think I should be eating a lot of fat, but I'm torn. I recently had blood work done and everything was gorgeous.
This is rather disappointing considering how Dr. McDougall has been so adamant about oil for over 40 years. He has always said, "not even just a little." Confusing people and undoing decades of the message.
Sorry, but the McDougall message on oil is more of a psychological edict for those who won't or can't stop if they consume even a drop. There is NO science that shows that a spray of oil in a pan, wiped up with a tissue, leaving ultra thin non-stick coating, will do ANY harm at all to arteries or blood flow. The "studies" that McDougall cites to show harm used 50 grams of olive oil. About a quarter cup in a meal. Or about 100 times what you'd get using a spray of oil to prevent sticking. Read the study that McDougall and Esselstyn use.... cherry picking the results. www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0735109700008962 Read the real science instead of the bowing down to the "Not a Drop" mantra. Have some common sense. Its NOT a drop or two of oil that is gonna cause you harm. It is the weak minded who simply don't have the will power to greatly limit their consumption. Hence the endless "NOT a DROP" mantra is drilled into the heads of those who can't understand the science and don't even read the studies cited by McDougall.
The way I see it is you don't find plant based oil in nature by the teaspoonfuls let along a half of cup or more. All oils you are told to use for recipes are super processed foodstuffs. If God would have meant for us to eat oils in those amounts He would have given them to us like that in nature. You do find large amounts of animal fats in animals and the body does need some fat but that doesn't mean we should get that fat from animals.
@@dj-fe4ck Of course. Animal hides are used to make clothes, skins, fur leathers, and you can make clothes out of many plants.. plant fibers are woven into clothes.
It’s interesting that the Bible refers to Olive Oil in the Promised Land. Olive oil is also talked about in reference to Holy Spirit. It may not come naturally in liquid form, but neither does wine come dripping from the vine. We have to work the land to produce a harvest. I guess my question is how does no oil fit into the Scriptures since the Bible does give us guidelines as to what is food and what is unclean.
@@womanatthewell9603 Sure people used it but it's Not optimal in diet especially in large amounts. It was used in cleaning and in anointing for priests and blessings and in healing via prayer. The Bible also gives us two different accounts of what we should eat, one includes meat and animal products and one doesn't, only plants.. how do you pick and choose? A whole food plant based diet has been shown to have better health benefits than The Mediterranean diet. I suspect in the Bibilical times, they didn't use as large amounts of olive oil as we do today.
Eliminating oil entirely is not healthy, Ask any centenarian. Even Ellsworth Wareham who lived to 104 said he still eats olive oil, just not that much. It's beneficial on lipid balance and the body needs essential fatty acids. A couple teaspoons per day is good.
Dr Lim's opinion doesn't line up with Dr McDougall's, and then publicly puts it out there that a little oil may be ok. Considering he is Dr M's Medical director, he should at least be reinforcing Dr M's teachings, even if he personally doesn't agree with them. NO one is going to do oil in moderation, that's why America is in the trouble it's in. Coconut really doesn't have a place either in this way of eating.
@@Mrm1985100 DId you listen to it? Yes in general, but he didn't stand by that, he said if you use oil, use olive. There should be a very clear stance of NO OIL, which is what Dr McDougall has taught all of his years.
You say " NO one is going to do oil in moderation,".... Sounds like the same crowd that says "No one is going to follow a plant based diet, without meat or poultry or dairy etc" Same "absolutism" , just from the other side. Persoanlly I feel comfortable giving 2 sprays of canola oil into a frying pan, then spreading it around with a tissue, allowing me to cook certain veggies, etc, without sticking. After the wiping process I would guess I get a total of 0.5 sprays of actual oil, only a portion of which remains on the food.. Makes life easier in cooking and cleaning the pan. But you'd have everyone believe that "NO one is going to do oil in moderation". I would challenge anyone to show me any science that indicates that 0.5 to 1.0 sprays from a aerosol, once a day, can causes any negative effects on one's body. Know thy self. Some of us can handle such minimal use with relative ease. We don't ever go off the deep end.
It doesn't love you..it's like an abusive relationship..causes medical complications in the long run..don't be surprised if you start walking with a cane before it's all over..it's crippling..100% fat..fat = plaque in the blood stream.
@@erichardson8811 Well, that’s a very kind thing to have said! Thank you. Spreading positive news about health and optimal wellbeing, especially in these times, seems to be just about the most important thing we could be doing. Funny your compliment (unearned, I assure you) arrived when it did. I’ve been feeling a little down about the state of the world recently and you’ve reminded me that yes, we can shine a light, however dim, for others. First, by being an example!! You’ve renewed my spirit. Thank you. And good luck with your own endeavors.
I would not include olive oil...... 4 years with no oil and I've never felt better. (65 years old) Blood levels could not be better. MegaVegan, not buying it..... L.H.
If you were to only eat 1 tablespoon a week, that would only be an average of about 2 grams of added fat a day. That amount would certainly not be bad. Even twice that amount probably wouldn't. I only eat maybe 2 or 3 tablespoons a year and feel best with as little fat as possible, I don't even eat nuts, seeds, or avocadoes, but I think it's strange that some people are so fanatical about it.
@@dj-fe4ck ordinarily, you're right in what you say there. But, remember too some people can't moderate - it sends them into a binge (especially if they're prone to that). And for people with severe heart disease or stroke risk, it's a no no for them. Some care here. If you don't have vulnerabilities, you're fine if you're going it well the rest of the time.
Its processed food. Better to get healthy fat from unprocessed foods....nut butters, seeds, avocado, also though, in moderation. But hey.... do what you want.
Plant based long term is a disaster. I followed The Starch Solution for 15 months. No oil, meat, fish, dairy, butter, fat. NONE. I didn't lose weight. I didn't gain weight, but the scales didn't move. The problem is there is no satiation. I'd eat some beans and rice, be full, but an hour later I was in the kitchen looking for something. When I eat meat or eggs, I go for hours and not even think about food. And let's be honest, Dr. and Mary McDougall both look much older than their age. The doctor looks as if he's close to 100 years old. They both look exhausted and have no color in their lips. Same for vegans. No lip color, gray skin, no energy, hair breaking off. I lost half of my hair following McDougall. It all fell out. RUN from this diet.
Use it as a HEALING diet, then continue to follow it for the most part and allow for some olive oil, and occasional stuff……but watch out for the slippery slide of regular consumption of red light non-foods?
