The McGOVERN 3.0 Friction Hitch was created by Brian McGovern! You can find his channel at @woodpeckerarborist !
Here is the LINK to his video about the McGOVERN 3.0 Hitch! In this video, he demonstrates how to tie the hitch and discusses several unique applications for it: • McGovern Hitch 3.0
This video is a collaboration between myself, Knotorious, and Brian, where I discuss his hitch, which can be used for both SRS (with or without a rope wrench) and MRS climbing techniques!

I didn’t know there where hitches that could be used without rope wrench, that’s pretty cool. Can you make a video explaining how you then would set it up, just a hitch and a carabiner won’t tend properly right? Anyway, great video and that’s a cool hitch. It looks nice

Yes, there are only a handful of friction hitches that can be used without a rope wrench and I've come up with five of them myself, personally. Regarding this same video, and my comment in the video about having only created five such hitches, another viewer asked if I could list out the names of my hitches that work without a rope wrench. I think you might find my response to him to be extremely helpful in discovering/learning about wrench-less friction hitches. Here is a copy of my response to that viewer... "Certainly! But I can actually only list 3 of them (plus 1 that I believe *might* work without a rope wrench base off of reports given to me by viewers who have used it without a rope wrench, plus 1 more hitch that my good friend, Brocky, came up with, which is the first hitch to ever be created which works without a rope wrench, plus 1 other hitch that another person came up with) because, thus far, I have only made 3 of my wrench-less hitches public, and therefore I have not made videos for the other 2 that I have created quite yet. Every video that I have linked will show you exactly how to tie each friction hitch and many of them also discuss each hitch at length as well. 1) Synergy Hitch (by Kntorious) - The linked video provides a tying demonstration and an in depth discussion about this friction hitch. Long Form Video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZfRu2oYBSSY.html I also created a video where I film myself testing this friction hitch without a rope wrench, in order to prove to my viewers that this hitch does actually work. You can watch that video by clicking the link here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pW0NW1vbIPc.html 2) Sticht Hitch (by Brocky) - This is not only the first tree climbing friction hitch created which works without a rope wrench, but it is also the simplest to tie, and it has become relatively popular and well-known/well-used over the last several years. If you do a Google search for it, you can find lengthy discussions about it on a few tree climbing forums, most notably Tree Buzz, where Brocky posts about it under the username “Brocky.” My Synergy hitch is my attempt to improve upon the Sticht hitch, and so both hitches are tied similarly. I did a collaboration with Brocky, working with him to create my “SRT Friction Hitch Series, which is worth checking out. Episode 3 talks all about the Sticht hitch and goes in depth about how to use it with the best results and why it works. I also demonstrate how to tie it in this video. Long Form Video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EVdm0gbaj2g.html 3) PrecisionSRS 3 & 4 Hitches (by Knotorious) - I demonstrate how to tie several iterations of the PrecisionSRS, with the 3rd and 4th being the two you should focus on; along with an in depth discussion. The video linked below is the fourth episode of my SRT Friction Hitch Series that I worked alongside Brocky to create. Long Form Video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZYdlep4TJdY.html 4) PrecisionSRS 5 Hitch (by Knotorious) Long Form Video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tf3gCgRIsTc.html 5) Synergy X Hitch (NOT to be confused with my Synergy hitch. It just occurred to me, as I’m writing this, that I used a very similar name for the first hitch in this list. I clearly wasn’t paying attention back when I was coming up with a name). I cannot remember who created this hitch off the top of my head, but it is credited to someone from the Tree Buzz forum who never provided their real name. Therefore, I credit them by citing their username for that forum in the following video. This is the first episode of my SRT Friction Hitch Series. Long Form Video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8aPHjz8eYRM.html I really hope this helps you out! I just spent easily 30 minutes putting all of this information, and all of these links, together for you, so please do me a huge favor and acknowledge that you have received this reply so that I won’t have to feel as though I just wasted my time. I always go above and beyond to help everyone in my community who has questions because I want my viewers to know that they can come to my channel with any question they might have and to know that I will always give them the best response I possibly can. Finally, if you have any additional questions after watching these videos, DO NOT hesitate to ask me by either leaving another comment or by reaching out to me privately at knotorious.contact@gmail.com! Best of luck!" As far as setting the hitch up for use on a climb, all you really need to do is add a pulley (a pulley with two or three attachment points is ideal) below the hitch and then connect your chest harness or neck tether to the slow above where you've connected the eyes of the hitch (on the lowest hole on your pulley). Then you can easily rope walk with it or use any number of other SRS/SRT climbing methods.

@@Knot-orious don’t worry, I got the reply. You didn’t waist your time. Thanks for the information. I already had your email tho because you gave me that a few days ago 😅. I am pretty interested in the rope wrench free hitches because I wanna learn srt but don’t have the budget for fancy stuff lol

 @Wannabearborist As a I said in my comment to you, the long block of text was a message to another commenter. That's why I asked for acknowledgement and provided my email; because it was directed at someone else. I just decided to share it with you. As cool and inexpensive as wrench-less friction hitches are, I, personally, would much prefer using a rope wrench because they make life so much easier and are always going to be smoother. Also, wrench-less hitches have to be tied and dressed/set perfectly, using the perfectly sized hitch cord for your rope. And if the hitch incorporates an anchor ring, it must be the ideal size or the hitch is going to bind or even jam. Using a rope wrench is much more forgiving and you won't destroy hitch cords nearly as quickly, the hitch won't heat up as much during descents, and you can use pretty much any correctly sized hitch cord with any rope and get great results (so long as you pick a good friction hitch to use).

Random passerby here. RU-vid felt I should see this, but I don't know anything about hitches. Would have liked to see the hitch "operate"!

I get this comment a lot when I post a new video about a new friction hitch and, unfortunately, it simply isn't practical for me to demonstrate each of the nearly 150 different friction hitches that I have made videos for. However, if you take the time to look through and watch some of my latest videos where I demonstrate redirects and climbing methods, you will be able to see me using a variety of different friction hitches (many of which I created myself) as part of either a lanyard or climbing system. You can also search RU-vid for "friction hitch" as well as "how to use a rope wrench" and you can find countless videos which demonstrate how friction hitches are used. The McGovern hitch can reportedly work without the need for a rope wrench, so to give you an idea of what that might look like, here is a video where I demonstrate a different friction hitch (the Synergy hitch, which is one that I created, tested and developed) which also works without a rope wrench. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pW0NW1vbIPc.html

@@Knot-orious Thanks! I can see how it would be awkward to demonstrate it on a benchtop

Hey brother. What type of hit hitch cord were you using for this demonstration?
@Knot-orious
@Knot-orious 14 дней назад
I used a 32" long, 9mm diameter spliced Sterling RIT Response hitch cord! It's easily my favorite hitch cord because of how well it works on ropes between 11-12mm diameter. I also own a 30" and 32" sewn eye version as well! Not to be confused with the 8mm Sterling RIT; I'm talking about the 9mm Sterling RIT Response, which is an exceptionally flat cord, which creates ideal surface contact between the hitch cord and the rope, and has a cool color pattern! Great question!
