Worth every penny , the first time I heard the McIntosh integrated amp I was paralyzed by the clarity of warth I could not only hear but feel the beautiful expression of sound , I felt like I was setting in the front roll of a concert/Synthony , people who say the speaker makes the system would disagree when they hear the audio quality and labor of love put into McIntosh audio equitment !
After seeing and listening makes me feel quite fortunate to be able to own a few Mc items. It began when I was just 13 (I am 75 now) and was quite into audio. I had built my own amplifiers, remember Heathkit? I was visiting my favorite electronic store that included McIntosh. They had a Mc service clinic ongoing (Mc used to do these at their dealerships to test and service customer equipment) They would test all equipment other than just Mc (there wasn't much Mc out there at that time) I had taken my Heathkit for test, but before I had the opportunity for it to be tested another Mc owner was in front of me with one of the very first of the Mc amplifiers. The service techs began the process with his equipment and first replaced all of the tubes, then the electrolytic capacitors and a few other components. The Mc owner was told that his amplifier would meet its original performance criteria when they finished. As I watched I could tell that as they proceeded the Mc owner was becoming a bit concerned as to what this might cost him. When the test was done and its performance criteria was met he sheepishly asked, "what is my cost?" He was told that since it was a McIntosh product there was no charge! I was sold at that moment. I had my lowly Heathkit amp tested and it only needed new tubes (which I had to pay for) But at age 13 and even at that time Mc products were well beyond my means so I just had to dream that someday I could afford one or more. As time passed I did reach that point. My oldest is now 52 years old with the most recent being 28 years young, all working as well as they have ever and I can say that what they say do and manufacture is true. I have a plan to someday visit the factory; it is on my bucket list before I pass from the world. And, if anyone might wonder what kind of audio equipment they use in Heaven, now you know!
The most iconic, the best looking hifi out there, together with Luxman and Accuphase. Who knows, maybe one day. Until then I have to look everyday at my dull Rega...
wish I could afford it i work hard a everyday in a factory as a maintenance man 7 year a in but so many bills but I still appreciate watching McIntosh the art of sound
As a kid, McIntosh was considered the holy grail. As a man, it still is in my books. I finally became a McIntosh owner and I have no plans to change that.
In the early 1990’s I managed to scrummage up enough cash on my working man’s wages to buy a new MC 7270 amplifier. It did, indeed, sound wonderful and there was pride in thinking I got something to last a lifetime. But it was not without issues. It was in once for service under warranty, and another time that I had to pay for. After 10 years the front panel which is silk screened much like a pinball machine back glass started to get ugly looking bubbles in it. These things weren’t what I expected from a premium priced product that I busted my hump to earn. Although I still admire the company, the first experience is the one you remember the most and I have never gone back to audio products from McIntosh.
I want to go ahead and up my amplifier game to the McIntosh MA9500 Integrated Amplifier..a solid state design. This unit is significantly better than any gear I've owned & seems to have plenty enough features packed into its rugged chassis to last me a lifetime. Do you or anyone here have any listening impressions of this unit? Is it easy to operate? As you know, this unit replaced the well-known MA9000M I appreciate any information you may have. Cheers, David-
I'm contemplating getting a MA7200 or a Luxman 507 MKII integrated---I have a pr of Dynaudio Special 40s and they love power. I currently have a Marantz 8006 integrated with 70wpc. Suggestions please. Thx.
@Joe Al The PM8006 is awesome but my speakers need more juice. So I'm getting the Marantz MM7025 amp to go with it. I'll eventually may get a McIntosh or something else. The Marantz 8006 Network/CD player is very good as well. It was a breeze to set up to Wifi.
God help you if anything breaks. My MA7900 just went doornail. I hope it’s just corrupted firmware that can be reloaded. They are also more complicated than they need to be. The menus are labyrinthine, and the manual is confusing for a regular person. The manual may as well be in Chinese. Some salespeople also cannot figure out the menus. They sound sooooo good when they are working. I also had 2 AV processors. Little gremlins got inside and no one could get them out.
((REMOTE CONTROLLER Problem)) -- sticky surface Remote controller problem of Old models including MA7000 or older models. CAN NOT even purchase a new one. They just Don't make anymore. I can't believe this kind of IRRESPONSIBILITY at this kind of legendary audio company. Mcintosh should make new improved remote controller for old models. I don't expect to replace the new one for free. I just want to purchase a new remote controller. Request courteously to Mcintosh company.
