15 year Mercedes-Benz/ 5 year Mclaren Certified Mechanic here. You don't want to charge and pressurize the hydralic system with shop air even more so because you don't have an air/water seperator. You want to use nitrogen because it is considered a dry air without the presence of oxygen. Now that you used shop air the entire system will flucuate in temperature changes, moisture in the system, and you have promoted exelecrated damage to any rubber seals within the hydralic loop. Evacuate the entire system again and charge it with a Nitrogen bottle instead. Thumb up this so they can fix it properly.

I’m a hydraulics specialist, in my opinion and experience with various accumulators. You can use hydraulic pressure gauges, T in ahead of the accumulators, monitor the pressure differentials as it cycles. Document the required pressure range cycled through the accumulators and just buy heavy duty after market ones that can duplicate the correct specs(usually bladder volume and nitrogen pressure can be used to determine replacement requirements). Depending on the location, you can also try heat wrapping them(anytime accumulators are exposed to hot environments, they run the risk of internal failure) especially when they have fast or high shock cycling. Or you could modify the system by changing the values and plumbing, install 2 accumulators(one with a lower actuation range and one with higher range that is actuated only when the lower one is pushed over relief) it will cut cycles down, as well as help with “spikes” in pressure.

We run the same semi-active suspension system as these McLarens from Monroe Intelligent Suspension (our partner) on our Formula Student car. Funny seeing the exact same accumulators as our car on your video hahaha. I can confirm that working on this system is quite the job and we also made a homemade bleeding rig with a vacuum pump, some valves and tubing to pressurize the system on our own to save time and inconvenience 😁 What’s cool about it is that we can adapt the damping of the shocks electronically while driving thanks to a control algorithm based on sensor data and actually we plan on having a switch for a tire warming mode with stiffer damping to heat up tires faster 🚀🏎

FYI, you could 100% put steel braided hydralic line to those accumulators, switch to the new longer ones and remote mount them, just account for the extra fluid needed to fill the lines. for a few laps in the drift lambo, ill cnc you some custom accumulators with a lock ring to seal those rubber ballasts.

I believe you could re-locate and use the new style accumulators using a 3000 PSI braided steel aircraft line setup. The changes to location should not change the performance of the system. The aircraft I worked on for over 40 years use all kinds of accumulators and are placed remotely in a lot of cases. If you can adapt the installation to work with the MS lines and fittings, it should work. Come to think of it, the re-mote reservoirs used on motorcycle racing shocks are basically the same thing. You could be able to use some of those as long as they hold as much or more fluid as the stock ones. They are charged with nitrogen through a straitor valve on the end of them.

You don't actually need to depressurize the system to change the accumulators. Park the car overnight on a lift then just fill the new accumulators with hydraulic fluid unscrew old ones and screw in the new ones. Turn the steering lock to lock and it should be all set. This is for the main accumulators not the additional heave accumulators which are refillable
