I really didn't like the look of Jackson's trilogy, it didn't feel authentic. All the costumes and the general feel didn't seem like the gritty dark ages of a mythological northern Europe. The casting for Aragorn was appalling, the dwarfs looked ridiculous and so did the hobbits and the orcs. There was something a bit Hollywood medieval about it. They didn't quite get Tolkien's vision. In my opinion what happened to Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time is worse. Tolkien's fanbase are still vocally expressing their outrage over Amazon's butchering, from what I've seen at least. WoT's fans for the most part accepted and even praised the massacring of the source material in favor of progressivism, completely ignoring the breaking of the worldbuilding, lore and themes. Just look up the description of the Aiel, one of the ethnicities in that world, and look up who they've cast for Aviendha, one of the main female characters. It's not just the casting tho. In a feeble attempt to create the new "game of thrones" they cynically subverted what was simply a more dramatic and humane retelling of an archetypal hero's journey. What should be a somewhat more realistic "shire" (simple, hardworking and isolated rural folk who doesn't really know the maliciousness and greed of the outside world, they are mostly concerned with the weather and crops) became gritty and disgusting (not to mention racially diverse like a modern metropolis, with no possible explanation as to how that came to be, of course). The main cast became older and with no innocence to grow out of, already having sex and even addictions. One of them, who have loving and hardworking parents in the books, now have an alcoholic mother who hates him. They even gave a wife to another and made him kill her accidentally for more shock value and grittiness. It's disgusting the amount of disrespect for the author's legacy and the "fans" actually defending it. They are the definition of cucks.

I had no idea. I watched a couple of those and immediately lost interest as it seemed pretty vacuous. I figured it was based on a series of novels, but I knew nothing about it being bastardized. @fablelover121
@fablelover121 2 года назад
Eh, the Wheel of Time series always had the stench of "Progress" wafting about. Namely the female characters getting free reign to do whatever they pleased - usually denigrating the male characters and reminding them that they're all useless idiots who couldn't do anything if it weren't for the women folk... who usually end up needing to be saved after they do something incredibly stupid. Hell, not one good-aligned protagonist in older fantasy books would laugh at a female rape victim or say they deserve it while spreading lies about them and constantly planning how to undermine them both before and after. None of them would be thankless twats after being saved from being sold into magic slavery. None of them would berate a female who is cursed and trying her level best to stay sane and not bring about the end of the world. None of them would try and claw down the female's self esteem constantly when they're actively trying to prevent the end of the world because they end up having a few vices that don't impact said war effort and, in fact, help hold it all together. But the women in Wheel of Time? The princess was able to rip someone out of the cycle of reincarnation, no one knowing the consequences, and yet she got the same heroine to end up being her body guard after that. No big deal. Then there was the farm girl, she literally never had to face any consequences at all and, even after her death, was still the deciding factor before she literally ascended to a higher plane of existence in a death scene that got more detail and effects than anyone else ever got. And let's not forget that it's a plot point that Rand damn near loses his mind because he has to kill a single female, who is one of the most vile beings that has plagued the world for a long time. He nearly decides that, because he had to kill an evil woman, that he might as well destroy the whole world and be done with it. It literally takes his past life's insane self who already ruined the world once through sheer magical might going "Whoa man, that's a step too far" to stop him.

@@fablelover121 I think you're stretching it. You said yourself that the woman berate the male characters and then get themselves in situations where they need said males to save them. I didn't see the bickering between the sexes as the author's opinion, but his way of working one of the themes of the story: man and woman need to sort out their differences and work together as a whole, not against each other. The magic system hammer this idea the whole time. The whole Yin and Yang thing. The two halves of the power pushing against each other and moving each other. Personally I don't agree with his views (at least not completely) but I can see what he was going for and I respect that. He may be a bit parcial to the girl's side but I didn't sensed any "toxic masculinity is bad mmmkay" in the writing. Maybe you did see it and I'm interested if you have an example. Another thing, their world have been under the control of women for the last 3.000,00 years. It's been off balance to their side. The dragon's arrival triggers the beginning of power shifting towards men. This is my interpretation and I also think it's explicit in the books. Sure, Jordan wasn't exactly a traditionalist or reactionary by any means. You can see the liberalism in him. But I think you're exaggerating by tying it together with progressivism. There are absolutely no gay or sexually deviant characters whatsoever. Women and men are shown throughout to be different biologically, mentally and even spiritually. The magic system leaves no other interpretation here. Saidin and saidar are different and no gender identity BS can change this fact. If you're a man you're gonna use the male half of the power, no arguing that. Woman in power don't get rid of their femininity, in fact most of them revel in it. Every nation have it's ethnicity with clear physical characteristics, culture and traditions and their differences are shown positively, with the problem arriving when they can't work together against the greater evil (mind you, not "mixing" into a multicultural blob, just work together like the elves, men and dwarves did in Tolkien's books) It's all so different from today's progressive view of the world that I'm pretty sure some of the "fans" call it "problematic" and that's why they praise the television adaptation. These books are not perfect. Any politics or social commentary you can get from them (it really is very little, almost none) is your typical boomer liberalism, but it doesn't excuse what Amazon did. They are extremely enjoyable and have fantastic character development and worldbuilding.

“With no significant political forces opposing the conversion of our world into a universal marketplace, the conflict of our time is the struggle to retain one’s humanity in an increasingly artificial world. That is the only battle that retains any genuine significance from a traditional perspective.” - Julius Evola, Metaphysics of War "...when the right and primacy of interests higher than those of the socioeconomic plane are not upheld, there is no hierarchy, and even if there is one, it is only a counterfeit; this is also true when a higher authority is not accorded to those men, groups, and bodies representing and defending these values and interests. In this case an economic era is already by definition an anarchical and anti-hierarchical era. It represents a subversive version of the normal order. The materialization and the soullessness of all domains of life that characterize it, divest of any higher meaning all those problems and conflicts that are regarded as important within it. This subversive character is found in both marxism and and in its apparent nemesis, modern capitalism..." - Julius Evola (Men Among the Ruins

The way these Hollyweird woketards bastardize the beloved LOTR lore is just repulsive. I really despise the r*pe of intellectual property. I often wonder how shows like this even turn a profit. Most real LOtR fans are not going to watch it and the rest of the people probably don't care one way or the other. Who is really signing up for Prime just to watch this show? While I hate to admit it, Prime is already worth its cost to most people for the shipping alone, the shows are secondary. This leaves me with the assumption that the show is targeted towards causal viewers with little background in Middle Earth lore, probably for the primary purpose of subversion and because they get a kick out of degrading European culture. Imo, this is very similar to the pride flags at fast food chains. There is a motive beyond profits. I've always hated the cynically shallow arguments made on the moderate left and right that corporations only pretend to care about gay pride because it increases their profits. Are they really arguing that homosexuals will stop going to Burger King because their cup doesn't have a rainbow on it? People will go to those places regardless. The goal is to demoralize the average working class conservative (ie, the people with at least an ounce of sense) and socially condition kids to their vile propaganda (of course, much of this is crafted by the people behind ESG). While profits are still the main concern of big corporations, they are far from the only. I don't think the average person realizes how repugnant these establishments are until they accept this.

Normies will watch just about anything. Furthermore you have "fans" who just like the aesthetics or brand of a franchise. Like how halve of Starwars fans will keep watching the shit Disney has pumped out over the years since they've bought the rights. The Star wars fandom is split between those who miss the good ol days and those who will eat anything with a grin on their face. Same will become true with LotR. And that's on top of bored normies that aren't even fans that will just watch it because they've run out of other things to watch. Also ironically even people who hate it will hate watch it to see how bad it is. Reviewers will have to watch it or they can't comment about it with any authority. Why won't they make a scene in which a Treant with a (literal) bush afro starts rapping in Entish. Has Tolkien ever writen anything about that? I don't think so which means they have the creative freedom to include it right? If an author has not written to clarify something expressly then apparently you can just do whatever you want. I also wonder how Treants reproduce. Maybe they should include a scene where one injects their roots in another Treant and then releases tree sap which causes the other Treant to bloom flowers and explode seeds all over the place. After all, it's their IP now so they can do with it what they want without caring for the original spirit it was written in. The audacity of these people to honestly believe they can destroy the world he created on the basis that something will sell well and hasn't been explicitly discussed is horrifying.

@fu cukoff I was on twitter and I took some scalps but it’s such a cesspool I feel dirty even thinking of going back on. I’ve come to the realization that we never got our independence, we got the illusion of it. The treaty cemented Anglo power, the west Brits took over management. Look at our language, it can’t be a coincidence that it’s in a worst state than 100 years ago. Sinn Fein were so utterly subverted by the intelligence services that two fat women are in charge north and south. Look at our flag- the green, representing the Gael was only one third of it. It was in our face from the get go. Our current crop of politicians are traitors with one eye on a UN/EU job .

All this is well and good, but a friendly question - how is all this bemoaning and gushing over pop culture (high brow perhaps, but pop culture nonetheless) going to have an effect on the real world of social and economic regeneration? If the 'reactionary right' or whatever you want to call it can do nothing but wallow in cheap sentimentality and impotent outrage at megacorps, how are you going to change the world? And what is your realistic vision of a future 'western' revival etc etc? At least the 'old' left that is begrudgingly respected, and which is very much alive, has answers to these questions. It all just seems a bit silly - coddled luxury of the first world. Do people in, say, Latin America cry about poor adaptations of fantasy novels? No, they live in the real world of real problems...
@nzxtMonster
@nzxtMonster 2 года назад
Thats precisely it, we in the west dont live in the real world. Our world is a fantasy, to the extent that everything the system proports to be, it isnt. As the collective sludge continues to bubble up for more and more to see, eventually things will become actionable. The problem is, even at this juncture its not yet obvious to enough people that a bait and switch has been played. Too many still believe in the falsehoods put forward. Thats not the answer i want to give, nor what you want to hear, but consider the last two decades: in 1999, for all practical purposes no one knew any of this stuff. Sure, exceptions existed, but generally speaking no one knew about any of this criticisms this sector makes on a daily basis now. The west was so successfully conquered by finance that its taken the better part of a century for us to get to this point. For us to begin to reorient ourselves and rediscover a path forward. To return to something like this clip, pop culture is a very fruitful avenue because it amounts to the secular mythos. As nice as it is to recite historical realities, names and dates, to deconstruct metapolitics and try to build something more concrete and grounded in 'reality' very few people have any grasp on the past because weve been turned into a people without identity and without history. Pop culture critiques are the way we build bridges. And this is to say nothing of how powerful story is to human beings. Hell, half the systems power comes from its ability to tell stories. If we can deconstruct them in real time, that does influence the real world people in south america you mentioned live in. Tl;dr - fed posting and historical revision is not a way to introduce people to the problem. People depend on story to understand real life. The west is full of the last men. Telling them their cape shit is shit and explaining why is the first step needed to move people this direction.

Pointing out the specific elements that are going wrong with corporate cultural output gives people hints for where else to look and what elements are worthwhile to pursue when making something yourself. Corporate culture may be captured by the left and has become a zombified hollow husk, but culture proper needn't be, and I think talking about what goes wrong now, paves the road for genuine cultural expression both now and in the future. And if you're questioning what the point of culture all together is, still, after seeing how absolutely subversive it becomes to everything else that you're calling real once it got captured by leftists, then I don't think you're going to make it. Culture animates, gives people a reason to strive. Lack thereof makes people idle sacks, degrades their standards because ideals are no longer remembered, etc. This is a step on the way from a demoralized people to a remoralized people, a reversal of what leftists have managed to do with the capture of corporate cultural output.

@@nzxtMonster A good point, I do agree that our sorry state of affairs regarding popular cultural-historical knowledge forces engagement with all this cape shit and so on to force people to think about the wider context we are aware of here. But I suppose my issue is that we're still stuck in this constant pop culture clash with the same points and arguments and debates again and again - people have been talking about this stuff since at least 2016. how do we proceed to the next step of serious engagement with social and economic matters that aren't merely diagnosis of the rot and decay, but a positive vision forward? There's only so much one can talk of spenglerian themes in star wars or whatever until one has to ask whats the point? It all comes across as ridiculous internet nerd nonsense. I still think that real-world socio-economic conditions - set to get worse this year - will be far more important as a catalyst for change than this online Kulturkampf. And it seems the online LARPy radical right (cf. Apostolic Majesty et al) will be left in the dustbin of history.
@paralleloctagon7062
@paralleloctagon7062 2 года назад
@@fransvandenheuvel7161 I'm not questioning the importance of culture, far from it. My point is that movies and pop culture rubbish is not the real culture of day-to-day life of real people which motivates their action and can cause socio-economic change. The old working class cultures within historical communities gave birth to socialism and the identity of being working class etc in turn replicated socialist ideals and coherent political goals. Having whites instead of black actors in some stupid fantasy series is not going to 'revive the west' or whatever fetishistic rubbish online nerds think of. I don't see how not having black elves in a LotR production will translate into real political change other than to seduce people (in the English context) back into the impotent Conservative fold - the 'bulldog patriotism' pseudo-politics Morgoth rails at.

@@paralleloctagon7062 Tbh the diverse casting is just the most obvious victory parading, and once mentioned there's not much more to say about that aspect, which they don't here either. Instead much of the talk in this podcast episode is devoted to substantial story or character elements being subverted to twist the morality of the original upside down, much like they're doing everywhere else in the world. Specifically in this clip video, they're also talking about the process corporate capture of cultural IP (in this case Tolkien's work, and McDonalds is discussed as well), and subsequent hollowing out of said IP. It's laying bare what drives such a process (main points here being: competitive expansionist greed going to the point of callously disregarding any moral considerations, and finding loopholes in legalese to make bad, cheap copies of something genuine). This is still useful chatter, because pointing at it allows one to see it (better), and once one can see it (better), one can avoid it (better). As for the idea that day-to-day working class people's culture is all that separate from pop-culture bullshit, I'd remind you that the market is thoroughly saturated with this shite. Most still have a TV, people still watch netflix or disney crap; I think it's included in real people's day-to-day lives. So we disagree on estimates for how far the tendrils of pop-culture reaches. Taking a look at how the needle gets moved whenever an outlier production comes out (like say with the Joker), and the subsequent panic of the usual suspects whenever this happens, it seems rather clear that genuine cultural expression with the right ideals, messages, and symbolism, is a very important win. So, you're right in saying that leaving everything the same in this new stupid series, except for making the diverse casting white, would not do much of any good. But that's also not what is being discussed or suggested, or at least it's not what I'm getting out of this clip or other chatter about this.

@@derekwholden Our problems are far greater than "cancel culture". You have stumbled onto a part of right-wing YT with a prevailing belief that a society is more than a collection of atomised consumers. Humans need to feel they are part of something, a nation, a people, a tradition, and free market capitalism has done more to erode this than communists could dream of. It's disgusting the amount of disrespect for the author's legacy and the "fans" actually defend it. They are the definition of cucks.
