Bodie was such an excellent character. The man who played him did an excellent job, I was sad when he got taken out.

The framing of the last shot just reinforces the sense that Bodie is a "pawn" in the game. There is a statue of a King like figure in the foreground, while Bodie sits with McNulty halfway across the metaphorical chess board. Despite how long he has been in the game, he's still at the starting line...

The call back to D’Angelo teaching Bodie about chess is one of favorite moments from this show

One of the best conversations in the series… It was at a point the two characters knew why the other acted the way they did! The writers of this show are absolute geniuses.

When Bodie said “I feel old” that’s depressing like he’s probably no older than 23 then saying that with no irony . That’s what the streets can do to you

The "I feel old" line reminds me of the "I'm tired Bunk" line by McNulty at the end of season 3. Both exhausted themselves in the name of something they don't fully recognise anymore.

He finally understood what D'angelo explained him years before. Maybe even better than D'angelo himself back then. Like someone said before, Bodie's work rate can be a metaphor do the working middle class man. 8 hours per day, never skips, and nothing in the end if something goes totally wrong, so to speak.

It goes to show how impeccable the writing and character development was on this show when the character who kills Wallace, the innocent boy in way over his head, turns out to be one of the most sympathetic characters who we also feel sad over losing in the end. Bodie was the definition of a soldier. The mutual respect McNulty and him had for one another at this point was palpable. They both saw a bit of themselves in one another; hard-headed, devoted to their respective cause, jaded by their bosses, and willing to put their own principles ahead of their wellbeing or social standing.

Bodie was one of my favorite characters. Smarter than even he gave himself credit for. Someone you really wished could have found a different path in life. I could see myself becoming friends with him.

McNaulty looking at Bodie when he says “you’re a soldier”…he has more respect for him then most of the police he works with that aren’t fully committed like him.

The game is the game. Bodie got the package. Mcnulty got the badge. They’re both soldiers and understand their roles as pawns but both never really move up from their positions. Mcnulty been eating his food listening and relating to Bodie but as soon as he acknowledged Bodie as a fellow soldier, Bodie starts to eat his.

Bodie was a true solider. When he died it was literally loosing the last of his kind.

"I feel old" one of my favourite lines of the show. Bodie was incredible in the Wire.

The Wire is a masterpiece. McNulty is awesome.

Bodie's up there with Omar as one of the most heartbreaking characters. An overall decent guy born into a rough life. He followed all the "rules", respects people, even more honest "enemy" cops like McNulty. A kid that would have done great things in any other life. Yet at the end of the day he's just an expendable pawn of truly evil people, and he dies in hollow fashion trying to follow the only principles he has even though he knows it's the end for him.

Bodie symbolizes the struggle of the average blue collar working man. He’s a company man who puts it all on the line everyday but as he puts it: “What comes back?” Nearly identical to the port workers who sacrifice their bodies every day and can still barely get by

Very arguably the best scene in the show

Funny how what Bodie is talking about is true not only in the professional world but also in one's personal life. People will readily take your help but will seldom offer it up when you're the one in trouble.

I relate to Bodie so much cuz my life was very similar to his. I'm 29 now and I feel like I'm at the same crossroad in life.

I love this scene so much because much of this dialogue you could reverse the lines (just sub "real police" for "soldier" ) and much would still ring true to the characters.

That garden is probably a mile or 2 from where he spent his whole life. He's never been there cos he's never even left his hood. Lived his whole life on the block

I commend bodie for this. Dude stood tall when it mattered. Hard to believe nobody just shot Marlo to death.

The great shows do set pieces well, but their real strength is in quiet conversations between characters

Rip to the millions who figured this out a lil too late... in the streets and in the real world The streets, the ones who got set up or figured out how alone u are even tho ppl swear they gang gang and got ya back even when u held ya part down they showed u how dirty the streets is and remind u to never trust no one even family. The real world, good ppl regular ppl tryna wrk n climb up only to be stepped on or thrown under the bus by someone u trusted or thought was a friendly co worker all so they can get u out the way or earn that promotion and get a lil closer with a boss or manager. N to the ones in prison and who died in prison when they got their n found out the streets and gangs only use u, they never have ya back 💯 no matter what u do even if u held it down 100x the girls the bros the love goes so fast once u locked up and truly on ya own n they won't come see u write u or even pick up a phone call.

mcnulty understood more then anyone...that quote at the end...he felt that personally

After this moment I like to imagine McNulty dropped Bodie off at an Army recruiting center. All he wanted was to do his job and have someone else have his back.

This show is so excellent in every phase

How an earth a show of such is timeless and they didn't live in an era of smart phones.

The respect for Avon lived beyond Marlo's reign.

The Wire wasn’t appreciated enough didn’t get great rating didn’t major awards they tried to cancel it after season 3 yet it’s one of the greatest shows of all time

One of the best scenes in one of the best shows of all time.

The last time Bodie and McNulty had lunch together was juxtaposed besides the scene where Randy gets beat up for snitching. this foreshadowed that Bodie would get got for snitching. In the earlier scene with Randy, Randy even says that he only said what everybody knew anyway. Bodie seemed to intend to do the same.

The irony of Bodie complaining about Marlo is Bodie doesn’t realize Avon was just as brutal and ruthless in his rise to power.

Incredible series, between The Wire, The Sopranos, Band of Brothers and Breaking Bad. It's extremely difficult to say which is the best series ever made on TV.

Bodie was going to snitch under the false pretense that Marlo killed Lil Kevin for no reason . Completely unaware that Lil Kev gave up Lex and ruining Randy life in the process. He was definitely a pawn, never privy of what was actually happening around him. Had he know kev gave up Lex. He never kicks the car door in, Mcnulty never springs him. He never feels compelled to snitch.

Bodie was doomed to always be a senior corner fella for most of his life. He's like Benjamin Ruggiero in that movie about Donnie Brasco. Ruggiero did everything for his people and the mafia and was never recognized, he always maintained the same position without really ascending

What he mean by “don’t ask me to live on my knees?”

Everyone's hearts ache when Bodie says "I feel old". I, like other people, pointed out that he's really about 20 since he was supposed to be 16 in season 1. On his death notice, it shows he's 26 (I think his real life age) and it appears to be a careless error. Analyzing this scene, maybe it was meant to show he was 26 on paper since that life aged him 5+ years. I like how the creators say that over the seasons was essentially watching Bodie grow up 😭

Bodie was only 23 and had 10 years in the game.

When McNulty said Bodie was a soldier I don't think he was complimenting him but telling him that was his place in the game. I don't think Bodie took it that way

The best show ever on TV. Only Breaking Bad really comes close.

McNulty was guilty about his own part in making Bodie's point. You're a pawn, "a soldier", a disposable piece and McNulty was one of the people using Bodie knowing full well what him talking to the police would lead to.

He was a real one and got taken out like a snitch

you can stand on your code and ethics all you want, but the second someone gets a perceived idea about you you're done.

Why would I not do that. “He said I’m not snitching on my corner or any Barksdales.” I could see if he snitched on Avon and the crew he was with. Bodie was snitching. Him sitting down and having lunch with a cop is considered snitching in “ the game”. No Ni99a doing dirt with you would ever accept that; even if true. I knew Bodie was gone soon after this when it first came out.

This might sound odd I know, but this kinda parallels to Jesse Pinkman & Hank Schrader coming to terms.

McNulty wasn't complimenting him. Soldiers (pawns) are expendable and they die so that the more powerful can gain. The irony is that Bodie took it as a positive. He is starting to realise he is being sold the big lie that he can one day get the benefits from the game if he just "does the right things", but he still doesn't quite understand. He is fooling himself and can't quite bring himself to believe it is all for nothing, and that no matter what he does, those at the top will always want him to stay a pawn (soldier).
