That was Black Water's little bird. Unfortunately the guy filming this Dan Laguna, was shot down and so was his brother the same day. Art was killed in Jan of 07' when his little bird came under fire while assisting a convoy that had been ambushed. Rest in piece brother.
Still a lot of original ‘70’s Hughes 500D’s flying in New Zealand today, before MD bought Hughes and created the newer versions.. one of the best helicopter designs in history going back to the 60s…
um yeah i don't think it is the best "Medium heli"...if this is a "medium" heli, what the hell is a light heli? a model made of balsa wood? The 160th SOAR classifies all AH6/MH6 Little Birds as *LIGHT* Helicopters Its two little bird companies are both in the 1st battalion and are referred to as Light Attack Helicopters Company (AH-6M) Light Assault Helicopters Company (MH-6M) Blackhawks are Medium Assault companies (except DAPs, which are attack) Chinooks are Heavy Assault companies Come on dude. The little bird is the quintessential definition of the light recon/assault/attack helicopter.
WHEN I was a kid in 1980 ; I after 6yrs of U .S . AIR FORCE duty. got a.job @ Hughes helicopter ; wow ; disneyland of Aviation .but. Back to the point , we were building/fabricating an incredible machine ; The Kenia Birds """"" !!!!! I know im old .....
sorry, it's not faster than an apache. more lightweight and maneuverable, yes. faster, no. And the model you are viewing is not an attack chopper, it is an assault/scout that is unarmed. The AH6 is the attack version.
@@foxtrotsierraproductions8626 I didn't say it wasn't. I said that the model he was viewing was not an attack chopper, it is an assault/scout. I told him that the AH6 is the armed attack version. The AH6 designation is effectively the armed attack version of the OH6, and the MH6 designation is effectively the light recon/assault/scout version. At no point did I say this particular chopper was an AH6. If it is not armed, the "A" designation, does not apply.
Can someone here do something for me ...1) are these guys actually employed by blackwater or was this some other american firm that was in theater at the time ? 2) how does one become aircrew in a private military company? is there an streaming process for guys who want to be gunners or pilots ? or do they just grab some guys....strap them up with a harness and get airborne ?
+nathan huxtable I'm not a part of Blackwater, so I can't say for certain, but I *can* say the following for certain: I flew 6's for almost 5 years towards the end of my Army career, and was being recruited by Blackwater towards the end. If you're serious about trying to get a job with Blackwater in aviation, look into the Army WOFT program.
Art Scott thats awesome, i am British so i don't know your forces inside out but because you said you flew 6's in the army im assuming you were part of the 160th soar? what does WOFT stand for ?
+nathan huxtable OH-6 is the old military version of the MD500. Rounder nose and different shaped tail. The ship in the video is an E model. MD has been selling the F model to the Afgan army now for a few years. The F has a tail boom extension, bigger blades and a bigger engine. Its an E model on steroids.
