Hey Lucas, that’s proximity gate called Optogate PB-05. Basically it senses when you get close to the mic and un-mutes the mic. We use it so the drums don’t bleed into the band’s in-ears.

Each team member has control over their own in ear mix so they can choose! But most have the MD in their ears so that they can hear any changes being made on the fly.

Of course! Most of the time we use the Multitracks click, and sometimes the native Ableton click. My biggest tip is to just build your sets in Ableton so that they are slave to you and where you want to go, not the other way around. Set up shortcuts and make it easy on yourself or your MD/tracks person to quickly jump around when needed!

I usually play bass when MDing! But since this was a bigger event, we wanted to try having someone off stage who was exclusively running tracks/MDing Edit: Uploading a video of me playing bass/MDing soon, so look for that!

Yeah, definitely a hard thing to balance. Depending on your background, lots of things can be considered "showy". Personally, I don't feel like we ever take it too far, but nevertheless we could do "less" production and still have a great service. For me it comes down to the question "are we all, as a team, on the same page for why we're doing this?" If the answer is to genuinely give God all the glory through our talents and means, then we're in a good place. Just my personal opinion!

It may seem like that but this video shows how communication is expressed through the worship. With all the instruments and speakers, it may be difficult to express which portion of the song to go to next.

This actually gives more freedom by having someone to direct the whole band. It gives freedom to be spontaneous.

I think this is huge job.to even be able to do all this is by the lead of the Holy Spirit.to be tuned and synch and lead all this stuff is huge without the leading of the Holy Spirit you can't do that

I myself serves as worship leader and MD. It is confusing. Like where does one draw the line with technology and actually just being musically together as a band instead of a computer deciding whats happening when. I understand your perfection concern. Some people can really take it way too far when it is all about Jesus. So what if someone made a chord error. Or missed a word. But yea. A lot to ponder on and still learn

In the bible, they used to worship God without instrument. Then instrument came in and we use it to worship God. Is that make it wrong? Am I worshipping God in a sin then? Directing a band is not a sin, it is for the band to play in attempt not to make a mistake. this is also help congregation to worship God and not get distracted if someone messed up. If you ever been in a worship team, you'll understand. If not, just focus on God instead. It is not the band's fault you're focus on someone hard work than Jesus.
