hot tip for future readers! don't dekaja, use 3 debuffs instead. he won't reapply capote if his agility buffs are still positive. him reapplying costs him 1 press turn. him missing an attack or half of andalusia can cost him 2. work smart, not hard
"Evasion/Hit Rate increased by 4 stages!" The average gamer probably has no reaction... Anyone who has played any other SMT game will go "Oh dear god no."
Gym Leader: Watch in horror as my ace Pokemon raises it's evasion and accuracy stat to 300% (6 stages) in a single move, in a franchise where you can only debuff both by one stage. Yeah, I can't imagine that going down well, even if it was the Champion's ace.
@@artofthepossible7329 There are moves like Haze that remove all status changes at once. The reason they don't see use is because stuff like Red Capote don't exist.
I love Matador, you just can't hold a chance against him until you prepare yourself and get your sweet buffs and a well made team just for him, it's just a nuke for making you learn how the game works
@DrWienerful using the fusion system to create certain atacks to nulify a certain estrategy... Then congratulations, you now probably know how to play the game.
Call me a whiner, but how is that good game design? If I have to know how the boss works beforehand just to stand any sort of chance of surviving my first go-around, it feels more like a punishment for something I didn't even realize was a thing.
@@fictionfan0 you don’t have to know the bossfight beforehand rather than having a decently built team to win against him. It’s impressive because a lot of JRPGS just don’t give you the importance of buffs and debuffs until particularly difficult bosses which are secret and placed in very late game whereas the story almost plays itself. But the fact is Matador wasn’t in the first version of the game since he’s a Fiend, and the fiend fights are a difficult spike compared to original story bosses, which is why Matador is still matter of discussions every now and then. At its worst, trial and error was always a thing in videogames so why would that be bad game design if the boss doesn’t push you to abuse aspects that make the game boring but instead makes you focus on having a more complete team that makes you interact with every single element of the combat Nocturne offers you?
Matador: So, have you been enjoying the game? Player: I mean, it's been challenging, but honestly it's not as hard as people were saying. Matador: That's nice to hear. Anyway *RED CAPONE*
This battle is there to convince you of the following -Turn Press is brutal, and you need to stack the odds in your favour, lest you be sent to the shadow realm -Buffs and debuffs are disgustingly good -learn Focus as soon as humanly possible
@@rift3487 Physical is objectively the best late-end game and begins to get very strong in mid game. What a lot of people do is few points in magic early, get some strong spells (the breath attacks are awesome) then transition into a focus+phys combo build come mid game (and ofc pump up strength, vit etc) Dunno the exact magatama you have but yea, strength + maybe some debuffs is optimal. Reason magic is so good is because the really good phys skills come into play quite a bit later on (being mid game) and strong magic is easier to obtain. If you want to, just search for some forum answers. There's tons in the SMT community talking about phys/mag builds.
Seeing how this video suddenly blew up, here is some context for those who are interested. This was my first mainline Shin Megoomi Tensay game. I never was a turn based-RPG kinda guy but when P4G was released in Steam something clicked in me and started playing more of the genre. At this point, I had already played P3, P4G, DDS1, DDS2 and some other non-Atlus RPGs, so, considering that at the time the SMT3 remaster had just released, the logical conclusion was to play that. I knew boneboy was coming due to the memes but I had no idea when nor what his schtick was. If I remember correctly, there's a prompt in the game that warns you about an ominous precense, but I never would have thought that after taking just a couple of steps after that warning I would be thrown into battle. This video is how that first battle turned out. I was pretty unprepared. I was not at full HP, had no suku skills and most of my demons were weak to force, so him tearing me a new asshole was no surprise. I found it pretty funny so I recorded it and uploaded it here. After that I fused some better demons and beat him on the third try.
I am honestly surprised your punch at the end even landed. when I first fought him I didn't die as fast, but I also couldn't land a hit on him with his evasion maxed out having no agility debuffs. Also thanks for this. I have tried to find a good example of what a first matador fight looks like for most people. all the "rekt by matador" type videos I have found are on hard or using the hardtype mod, and aren't a good example of how he is a good wall
Matador: summon your last pathetic demon so we can end this demifiend!! Demifiend: my compendium has no pathetic demons matador! But it does contain, the unstoppable nozuchi!!! Matador: ahhhh!! Nozuchi! It's not possible!!! No one's ever been able to fuse him!! Demifiend: nozuchi, WIND ABSORB AND COUNTER!!
I remember my first time playing and saw the manekin saying that he saw the Grim Reaper. I thought I would fight Pale Rider or something like that so I just healed and prepared for a battle. Then I saw him and rememberes all the memes and thought "nah he can't be that hard if he's this soon in the game". He kicked my ass even harder than Beldr did in Devil Survivor (DS was my first megaten)
SMT fans: *PTSD* G Gundam fans: *The undefeated of the East!!! The winds of the king!!! Zenshin! Keiretsu!! Tenpa Kyouran!!! Look!! The east is burning red!!*
I love how the Matador Boss just acts as the one big Obstacle that you have to overcome in order to experience the rest of the Game. A 'Casual Filter' in a sense even, if you will... It forces you to learn how to play the Game really, if you hadn't already by that point. Namely by showing the importance of Buffs/Debuffs, and your party composition (i.e: Resistances/Weaknesses etc.). I remember dropping this Game for months afterwards (granted after playing for several hours in one sitting by that point so it was probably more boredom than anything) before finally coming back more recently to beat him in a clutch. I knew I could do it, albeit with more preparation, I just didn't feel like it at the time. But when I finally did it unironically felt pretty amazing, and now (because I feel like I finally get to experience the rest of it) I'm playing the Game more often at this point, albeit more on/off this time and taking my time with it a little more. SMT Nocturne definitely feels like one of those Games that takes a while to truly get going, but when it does it's a really good game imho. Moral of the Story: When faced with the Toughest of Obstacles, you should always persevere until the very end.
I actually thought Matador was quite easy. But keep these in mind; - I already knew he was coming - I over prepare The wooped my ass on the first try, but after attempt number 2, I left, got some demons that could resist Zan magic. By the time I got back, it basically wasn't a fight
Yep. it was smooth sailing for me up until I got to Matador. And like this video, I was scrambling through my menu options, getting frantic from the music, and watching my allies (most with Force weaknesses) just get massacred. 😭😭😭
Funny thing is this boss was the boss I had to look up back on ps2 because I went from p3 to this and guess what P3 buffs don't stack so after reading up on him I learned, hey buffs stack and changed my entire playthrough of this game.
The funny thing is this game is way easier than its numbered predecessors; I played SMT2 completely blind and only died once, and that to only to the first boss.
When it came to beating this boss last night I had a pretty good team. I was level 23 and had: - Ame-No-Uzume - Momunofu - Take-Minekata My stupid ass had Shiranui, the Magatama with FORCE WEAKNESS. I was hit hard constantly but thankfully Ame-No-Usume had force block, making Matador's turn instantly end. She was fused with High Pixie (the OG pixie so she's not gone forever) and Archangel. The debuffs and buffs from her helped too! Thankfully Take-Minekata also had debuffs and buffs from the Shikigami and Lillim I fused together. It was funny seeing such a powerful demon have a shit-ton of debuffs. I had to heal him a few times but he was fine Now Momunofu is actually the real fucking MVP... because Momun had BRIGHT MIGHT thanks to the Bicorn and Kodama... Or was it a Bicorn and a Hua-Po? Who knows. The reason why Bright Might was so good was because normal attacks always turn into critical hits on a Full Moon. Momunofu helped me get one consistent extra turn each time he hit Matador. Anyways my strategy was to constantly debuff Matador with me and Uzume, then Minekata would increase physical attack and hit chance, and Momunofu looked pretty just hitting Matador for increasing increments of 100 damage. So what if I was weak to Mazan? MOMUNOFU WAS MY MVP, I LOVE HIM This game is so fucking awesome it lets me experiment and fuck around with silly strategies. I thought I was fucking toasted but my ass was saved by my own quick thinking.
@Hyourinmaru2 nah you can brute froce the game any difficulty. Its always funny when people whove clearly never tried something like to pop in like theyre the authority. Being ignorant isnt a big deal, being proud of it is wild though. You can literally youtube people doing this but isntead here you come trying to be all "nuh uh" for something thats just verifiably true with no effort whatsoever.
@@ChicCanyonI mean, fair enough in the sense that you actually could brute force it, it's very much doable with enough time spent. But also, like... why? Just get Ame-no-Uzume, ideally with Sukukaja, and you win. If you enjoy hours of grinding, then sure, do what works for you, but personally, it felt a lot more interesting to fuse a few demons, set up a more balanced team, then go back in.
I was overlevled as hell for this fight, like 23 or 24 which I feel like is higher than what's expected, and had some good demons yet Matador still nearly one shot my team with his physical attacking move in the second phase. I did manage to beat him first try on hard but I was scared for a bit.
Yeah, I do kinda wish I wasn't overly familiar with the mechanics of SMT (played Persona, IV, and the first sector of SJ before I played Nocturne the first time) and didn't know to fuse Uzume/Nozuchi/Nekomata and use buffs before fighting Matador. I had one loss but it was more due to bad luck with Andalucia than anything. Mem Aleph is my personal "ridiculous SMT boss" though so I still had one.
I'm on my first ever playthrough of this game and encountered him yesterday. A nice little reality check. Guess I'm gonna have to be higher than level 12 to beat him.
i just stacked demons with counter and dia that were either not weak to wind or elec through up a single defense buff then i physically attacked on his turn while keeping my team alive on my turn
Playing nocturne hd and man I'm honestly kinda dreading having to fight this guy because of all the stuff I've heard, though I have been doing pretty well so far at least
The nocturne tutorial is infamous for just doing that to people. I'm on my 2nd playthrough rn (hard) and I died more times in the tutorial than at any boss I've fought so far (random encounters have been the real killer so far tbh)
matador is basically an optional DLC boss that's too hard for the point of the game you unlock it at so you're supposed to come back later unless you want a difficult challenge. Of course the issue is that they put him in the one hallway you havee to go through to progress.
Yup matador is the "you're gonna learn today boy" boss and i love him for that. The only way to get past him is understanding how to aproach the game properly.
It's funny people told me this was really tough and it was. But then after I did it after several tries some people said it was easy. Crazy honestly lol
He's here to test your understanding of how the game mechanics REALLY works. If you have alredy acclimated to them in normal play, and DON'T have a team which main weackness is force, he is "just another boss"
This is one of the things I find frustrating of JRPGs, having to do "test runs" against bosses to discover their attacks and elemental affinities so you can farm and stack your party to exploit them. I would rather have a long battle that ends with me winning but limping away from it. However, I can understand that people like and prefer that. Btw, nice hitting Matador with that Attack, that is truly impressive.
Idk man, if that long battle ends in a loss then that kills my interest. If you're gonna have a battle where you struggle for 200 turns and survive by the skin of your teeth then it better be an endgame boss. When it comes to an early game boss like Matador I'd rather be put in my place with a quick stab through the heart and learn from the experience instantly instead of sitting pretty while I bleed out slowly for 40 turns.
What? You're talking as if games like dark souls doesn't have "test runs" 😂 If you die to a boss it's inevitable to fight that boss again but you would already know most of his attack patterns, If you don't want that then you should quit when you die 😂😂
@@gaspenpayne6755 I'm sure people out there find test runs in DS to be frustrating too. It's not like he said it's such a terrible thing, just frustrating tangentially related, but I think the main difference for an action RPG like DS and a test run in JRPGs is that you might have to grind after you learn about the boss's affinities, whereas in an action RPG you can learn the patterns without grinding. Not like that's necessarily a perfect solution either since plenty of people quit and never go back to dark souls
@@Astric24 he said he'd rather have a long battle and end up winning without exploiting the boss, but that can only happen if you did it first try no deaths, because if you fight the boss and then you die, you automatically remembers their moveset and patterns so you will automatically exploit their patterns when you fight them again, you are exploiting their AI.
@@gaspenpayne6755 That's fair. For me personally idk if I'd find that particularly fun if I'm able to beat it as soon as I get a second shot, but I haven't played SMT before so I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of context
Do you mean the optional Oni fights? I do remember them being pretty tough but half of them have weaknesses that you can exploit and you basically just need different strategies going into each individual fight
@@oof5992 I posted this when i only had a ps4, which i don't believe i could find any smt games on (other than the spinoffs like persona 5 and soul hackers) idk though it's been a year they might have added something since then
