I have been suspicious that my rear axle is not completely square in comparison to the center line of the Jeep... so in this video I show you how I measured that axle alignment (which also impacts the thrust angle) and then what I did to fix it.

I think i might have an alignment issue. Heres how i came to that conclusion: "i put it on an alignment rack" Thats great. Actually a great video. That part just gave me a good chuckle.

THANK YOU! Sadly my frame got pushed back about 3/8" on the driver side and I need to adjust the rear axle to correct thrust angle and then square up the front to the rear from there. Luckily I have access to an alignment rack but I'm doing this in my garage in the meantime. I super appreciate your time and for posting this great video, thanks!

Would love to SEE how and where you did the fronts. Will have to see if you have the front axle video. Great help. Thanks

What is this magical tape measure that actually stays on the bolt you set it on? That alone is impressive. Thanks for the video, I will be checking mine when I can.

Great video very helpful have you done the front? I’ll have to check mine. I just installed a set of adjustable control arms and am trying to get them set up correctly it’s a lot haha. Right now my front lower bumpstop barely hits the upper joncy bump. I think my axle is too far forward because I think I have the caster set up right 🤷‍♂️. Think I’ll take it in for an alignment hopefully they know how to work with Adjustable Control Arms we live in a smaller town so best place for an alignment is the Chrysler dealership.

I know this is a relatively old video but, where did you come up with the Frame to Body measurement graphic ? I'd love to get one for a 2001 XJ.

Why did you not take it back to the shop that installed the lift after you had the alignment done? Why didn't the alignment shop correct the thrust angle while they had it on the rack?
@o3djeeps
@o3djeeps 6 лет назад
So.. A couple of things. First.. I didn't want the alignment shop messing with my Jeep...After we got it on the rack, I had zero confidence that they could handle my job and they agreed - so I got the readout and we decided to call it good. Second... my lift over 2 years old... so I'm not going back to them. The reason I needed someone else to do the install was because the long arm kit required welding new brackets...and I don't weld. The small amount the thrust angle was off isn't really a big deal, but I just want to make it closer to perfect than that.

Was this issue drifting your steering to one side during higher speeds?

My ‘02 Mustang has the exact same 1/2” forward difference on the passenger side. I replaced the lower and upper control arms and got that difference from 11/16” to 1/2”. No other mods and the control arm brackets are not beat up. Any ideas of what could be the problem?

My axel shifted forward with lift. How can I determine the amount of shift X amount of lift so I can get new control arms?

i just have 1 question..... did you happen to make sure your rear tire pressures were the same when running your tape to the line on the side wall of the tire?

If I may ask...what axle mods for the front axle do you have to run 37's? Welded C Gussets? Welded Truss? Chromoly Axle Tubes? I would like to also run 37's on my Rubicon but as most can't afford an entire axle swap upgrade. I also 4x4 offroad wheel my Jeep. Thanx much!
@o3djeeps
@o3djeeps 6 лет назад
Probably not what you are wanting to hear... but I have a Dynatrac ProRock 44 Unlimited... so I went axle swap! :-) But.. I started with a D30. With your D44, I think the things you mentioned would be adequate depending on how you wheel. Feel free to jump into the o3djeeps Facebook group and ask. I am sure folks will be happy to help figure out what you need.

o3djeeps [ OVERCLOCK3D Jeeps ] Thanx for the reply. In order to run 37's I'm going to attempt and upgrade that front Rubicon axle only with bare minimum with the following: C Gussets, Chromoly Axle Shaft and HD Ball joints. I'm going to skip the welding of the truss. I do rock krawl but I do so slowly and carefully with a light foot. I hope this will be enough to sustain my 37's. Fingers crossed. Your thoughts???

Would I be able to correct the thrust angle with just adjustable lowers?
@trschurr

I think so but you would need to make sure your pinion angle is within specs

I have a 2010 Silverado 1500 4x4 z71 with a 2.25” leveling kit in front and a 3” lift block in the rear for a 1/2” take with the rear being higher. With that said, the passenger side of rear differential and tire is pushed more outside the fender more so, VS the driver side, almost 1/2”. With stock lift blocks, the tires were same distance outside fender... The kit comes from ReadyLift and they have no answers for me. Any help would be appreciated in getting this issue fixed...
@o3djeeps
@o3djeeps 5 лет назад
Do the lift blocks come with alignment pins and holes. It's not common to install blocks that don't come with centering pins and they shift off center slightly. That's where I'd start looking. It's sounds to me like the blocks are allowing the axle to shift.
@azchieftain6528
@azchieftain6528 5 лет назад
o3djeeps [ OVERCLOCK3D Jeeps ] Yes, the blocks do have center pins and they are tapered. Pins line up, shorter side taper is pointing forward. They are installed per the instructions. I’m gonna inspect leafs, truck bed, and do some frame measurements. It’s driving me crazy! Thx for your input...

I know nothing about a Silverado, but assuming it's a solid axle vehicle, the axle shifted to the side because of the lift. If the track bar bracket that probably came with the kit doesn't allow you to correct that you'd need an adjustable track bar - that will allow you to center the axle under the vehicle. Essentially replace the current track bar with an adjustable one and turn the adjustment sleeve until the axle is centered, then tighten the clamps.

I know this video is a year old but I just ran across it. With the thrust being off did you have any sway with normal driving?
@alexv4223
@alexv4223 4 года назад
I would assume very little if noticeable. The tolerance of the thrust angle was .25 degrees, he was at .30 degrees.

how do you like the teraflex lift?
@o3djeeps
@o3djeeps 6 лет назад
Jason Thissell I'm happy. It's essentially just the long arms and brackets that are Teraflex.

did you have to adjust the driver side as well as the passenger side? im about to adjust my tj because its 7 degrees off
@o3djeeps
@o3djeeps 6 лет назад
I just adjusted out the one side. It really depends on your situation and it if makes sense to shorten one side while lengthening the other. It has to be the opposite on each side. If you lengthen them both then you accomplish nothing other than moving your axle back.
@CoryMp3

@@o3djeeps did you extend with both rear upper and lower CAs? or just one or the other? EDIT- rewatched, you did both upper andd lower. I think I'm rubbing slightly on the pinch seeam as well. and looking to move the rear axel back just like .5 of an inch. Won't this hurt a number of things? brakelines - pinion angle, driveshaft length, etc etc ?
