Tonight we lost Meat Loaf!! A large hole will be left in rock and roll music. You were one of a kind with your story telling songs. So much talent lost to us. REST IN PEACE YOUNG MAN ❤️
@@HomelessJoe66 This song IS the story of Meatloaf’s extremely abusive childhood with his drunken violent father which Steinman wrote about - a true collaboration! There will never be another Meatloaf. REST EASILY and thank you for the music and the passion!!
I've never encountered a song/music video that so nakedly confronts trauma from a male perspective. It's so emotional-- and not just about sex and relationships, which is rare. At 41, this songs hit differently. It's such a beautiful reflection in middle age on the experiences that shaped your character, both tragic and enthralling. God rest both Meat and Jim.
Meat Loaf is (or was; the last live performance I saw video off wasn't great) one of the greats, but so is Jim Steinman who wrote most of the iconic songs. Steinman recorded some of these himself, but he just doesn't have the voice to do them full justice. Still good, though.
Was singing along (ok - crying along) to this in the car the other day, thinking about my dad who I lost 8 years ago. A love of Meat Loaf's epic output was something we shared. This loss hurts. We'll miss you, Mr Loaf. RIP. Ride on til morning.
Meat and Jim Steinman created some of the most incredible music in the soundtrack of our lives... RIP Meat... I hope you and Jim get the band back together up in heaven...
They did make some amazing creations, but honestly I hope they don't get back together, Jim was always jealous of how aday was being better recognised for the songs than him. There is an interview clip, of the band, and the interveiwer asks aday "what sort of genre would you class your music?" Aday, trying to be respectful says "ah ask jim about our music" Jim cuts in "well I would class MY music as...." I get they should be getting equal credit for their music, but Jim was a complete dick, even though aday always gave him the credit for it. He took out his problems on the guy who was trying to help him.
The part about his father gets me. I had a wonderful family, but I work in special education with behavioral disabilities and a lot of the kids are there from PTSD related to child abuse.
I love that all of us fans are coming together to pay tribute to the titan of the underdogs that he was. Rest in peace, Meat. Thank you for the music and the memories, and the raw hope and passion you gave us. Sweet dreams, and you are always ❤ 💕 💖 loved.
Love this song and many more. It's like poem and you going deep into. RIP to real artist and deep condolences for family and everyone who enjoyed his music Michal P
He sang every word with a gut wrenching meaning. He truly sung his passion and sung his message. We are worse off with his passing. But we will be forever closer to understanding the mystery and muscle of love ' ,thanks to his operatic rockiness.
Sorry bro been in army too 1980 to 87 lot of people I know say same .cant say I recognise it son of bitches I killed deserves it .shouldnt have put his dirty boots on my land .hand to hand in trench on mt Longdon falklands while standing on wounded comrade at end of bayonet just hope my enemies feel more pain than you
I often wonder if our enemies feel same wouldn’t want it to be just us western nato soldiers .are enemies reading these comments and laughing at wot they did to us calling us pussies feeling emboldened by our weakness. I for one will not give them satisfaction
I come here, mourning, thinking I might even be the only one crying to this song. Alas, at least you lot are all here. And being sad is shit, but being sad alone is even worse. At least, here we are, not alone. Assembled in the spirit of Meat Loaf, united in his poetic lyrics, distinctive guitar strum and this enormous timbre of his voice. Thanks for that great gift you gave us, we'll see us again some time in the future.
Brainzz, You are Definitely NOT alone in your profound sorrow at the loss of such a massive talent who was a part of so many of our lives growing up and beyond! I LOVE your phrase “Assembled in the spirit of Meatloaf, United in his (and Jim Steinman’s) poetic lyrics” Beautifully said! 💞
Meat Loaf and Steinman's music was loved by a lot of people - Bat Out of Hell is still in the top 10 best selling albums of all time, Paradise by the Dashboard Lights still holds the record for most time spent on Top 100 songs list. They had a falling out after Bat Out of Hell, bur eventually patched things up and then did Bat Out oh Hell II. Rock and Roll has lost 2 great artist who did their best work together, they will both be greatly missed.
@@shawnpeat Shawn, Well said and who needs the flippin misguided Hall of Fame which has ignored both Meatloaf and Jim Steinman’s incredible contributions! They will both live on and be revered in OUR memories as part of the fabric of our lives and that is true Commemoration!
Meat Loaf is one of my dad's favorite bands seeing him now 75 years old he can barely walk now he was such a strong man kept our family going and kept us fed, clothed and a roof over our heads he is the best man I know he had such a hard life growing up in war torn Budapest yet he did all he could to keep his family from never going hungry never sick in 35 years of work. I love you dad.
The sad fact about this song is it tackles real life situations. It's very dramatic and meat tells the story with such conviction. It's heartbreakingly brilliant
@@ingenerchik His father was a very cruel man and beat him always, told him he was nothing and would never be any thing. Guess he showed dear old dad! hope the fact most of the world knows meatloaf and loves him. I bet meatloaf is playing on million's of devices today and the past few days. Pure love for this man in the bottoms of our hearts don't know why the need to add "little fatso"
The way he describes the father breaks my heart every time. “He was dangerous and drunk and defeated. Corroded by failure and envy and hate.” That’s not calling him a monster. That’s tragically pointing out how very real he is. Very humanistic and beautiful and sad. Listened to this song for the first time in years last night and had to watch the video today. I was in tears the entirety of my work commute listening to it.
Never has there been a union like meatloaf and Jim steinman. What a magical fantastic chemistry they had. To lose both within a short time is heart breaking. Meatloaf was the musical story teller. There will never be another. R.I.P. JIM AND MEATLOAF 😔😔😔
I had most of Meats albums, the best being Bat out of hell, bad Attitude and the monster is loose. I can't stop playing ' Alive' what a brilliant rock anthem!! R.I.P big man , you will be sorely missed. 😚😂
Sometimes partners die close in time to each other. I know it's usually husband and wife. And it's just coincidence. But the melodramatic in me would like to think it was 2 partners that needed to be together again.
C Tuckeell “I think he’s right behind me now and he’s gaining ground” “Dangerous and drunken and defeated and corroded by failure” “And he grabs me from behind and pulls me back” These are words that SEAR THE SOUL and are the true story of Meatloaf’s abusive father. He was a soaring talent that sadly fell to Earth many times despite his constant striving but his Legacy will live on forever ❤️💞
@@maxfredmustermanfred627 Danke fruende in der welt nach norden, Australia sagt danke Thank you friends in the norther part of our planet, we say thank you, our german friends, DANKE!! MEATLOAF 's music will never die
My best friend Mike saved me - the new, freckle-faced kid - from a life of solitude on the school playground in 1986. A few years later, they discovered his first brain tumor. He fought hard for 25 years. When I lost him in 2016, he had a wife, four kids and three Master’s degrees. He lived his life better than anyone I’ve ever known. And while he was a huge REM fan, this song makes me think about him and all of our good times. Rest easy, brother!
I remember when this album came out. I was in such a dark place in my life. Struggling with depression, and alcohol. I woke up one morning with a bad hangover. A voice inside my head said this is not okay. This will not solve the problems you are having. So I grabbed my headphones and this cd and went on long walks and did alot of soul searching. I've been sober ever since.
This song has so much more meaning now that Meat is gone. It's like him reflecting on his life,he's young here, like it's him seeing his past and after going to the great beyond,a time traveler of sorts. I feel like this song and video after his passing is that much more powerful. This is his spirit, right here, young and happy, meloncholic but reflective and soon to be with his loved ones. Prophetic in a way. So long Meat, one of the greatest ever,be at peace and soon,we will all be objects in the rear view mirror...
If you are bored with the hum-drum-same-ol-thing from the U.S. or the Western market of Music, I highly suggest looking into K-Pop. The bigger companies SPEND on production of MVs like you described. AMAZING, AMAZING stuff. Even if Pop is not your favorite genre, there are work-arounds. There is a Girl Group that is now known as 'The Face Of Rock In K-Pop', basically on the fringe so they are the Black Sheep of music in Korea. NOBODY else does it like they do to the point that they are basically their own genre now. Dreamcatcher makes music in every genre you can think of. They even have some Metal stuff (they don't do the Screamo or Metal Growls but the instrumentation is SICK and their vocals are amazing!). Every member brings it (there are seven awesome ladies to try to keep your eyes on). Hard to say 'no' to a group that can do just about everything. Their production just keeps getting better but they are from a smaller company. With their debut, they opened a dark, horror-based storyline that lasted seven title tracks, each attached to different albums or mini-albums or EPs. After that storyline was done, they moved on to tackle Social issues. Their B-sides are not necessarily Rock or Metal but they are great vocalists no matter what. They have a lullaby (which is actually called 'Lullaby', lol), they have some Rasta, they have some Country, of course have some Rap and they do covers of other group's songs from Western countries as well as from Korea. They are my fav group in all of music BECAUSE they do EVERYTHING, matching my eclectic musical taste plus when they have MVs, it's just like you described; Mini-Movies. But DC is not the only group who makes those Mini-Movies with all that great production. :)
Wow this one actually Hurts. I cannot remember a time when I did not listen to Meat Loaf. He is one of the Best. So sad to see him leave the earth. RIP
This was the first song I heard from him and boy oh boy was it a real road trip... He was a ballad master like no other, with the voice to match. RIP legend!
I’m in tears I can’t stop crying I get it we all gotta go one day but I wasn’t ready for this.I grew up listening too all his music had every poster on my walls stood inline for his album bad attitude which was so hard too get . This feels like a dream 💭R.I.P you are a pure soul and will forever be missed
Wake up this morning to the very very sad news that Meatloaf the God of music has gone. What a Lovely genuine gentleman he was. Heaven has reserved a special place for him. Meatloaf you have made so many people happy with your talent and music. Much Love to your family. Rest in peace big fella 🙏😔💔😢😞💙
It doesn't matter how many times I listen to this. If I sing along, I always end up crying. When it came out it felt like reading a book or watching a film. Heartbreaking
Meatloaf's songs meant a lot to me growing up. Especially "Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are". Now that's a long title :-) The song reminds me of my friend Steve that left life way too early. It was written and composed by a less infamous musician and songwriter, Jim Steinman. Meatloaf breathed so much life into the song. Songs are amazing... You can touch people and help them while you are alive even after you are gone... Not too many things are like that. Meatloaf is gone but his songs will live on for many years to come to touch new people and help them.
Chris, Meatloaf breathed life into it because it was HIS story of his violent abusive alcoholic father! “He’s behind me and he’s gaining ground” was what he felt his entire life but his massive talent still couldn’t be crushed! May he Rest Easy now ❤️
On the Dan rather interview (RU-vid). Meat Loaf was asked, what is the one thing that bothers him more than anything in the world. He responded when people type his name as one word. Good job 👌
Nobody could tell a story through song like Meatloaf could. Still remember hearing the first Bat out of hell album for the first time and being blown away. R.I.P big man.
My mom always cries when she hears this song, she says it reminds her of growing up her step dad beating her and her mom never standing up for her or her siblings she got pregnant at 17 it was 83 in the cold of winter when my dad and her decided to runaway their first attempt was a failure and my dad was arrested when he got out he visited my mom at school and asked if she wanted to try again so they ran away again got help from a preacher named Travis and his wife Bobby who bought them a bus ticket gave them food and clothes then they ran to Oklahoma that was 37 years ago and despite all the hardships they faced they're still together.
It has that effect on me too. Lost my mom when I was 15, my best friend died at 38, which was 31 years ago. This song brings it all back as if it was yesterday. Brilliant lyrics and a flawless delivery.
I'm glad she found happiness...so sorry she had a rotten upbringing. Most animal mothers would let themselves be torn to pieces if necessary protecting their babies from predators. Human mothers turn a blind eye, shrug, and let predators into their homes and repeatedly maul their children. Sad, really...
This album came out right after I got out of the Navy. My seizures were making me keep changing jobs, my marriage was falling apart (I later became a single dad forever), I was dealing with a lot of depression. The album, and this song in particular, were a huge comfort. A fellow Dallasite got me through it all. Thank you Meat Loaf (Mr Aday)
Ein wunderschöner Song voller Melancholie und Sehnsucht....seine Seele soll im Himmel weiter rocken! wir werden Meat Loaf niemals vergessen, Ruhe in Frieden Bruder
Just came across this song. People may be haunted by their pasts, but if you can come back from it and become a better person then the object in the rear view mirror will never bother you! Stay strong kings and queens!
If I could say one thing to someone considering shooting up their school it would be what my father told me when I considered suicide in eighth grade: "All you gotta do is survive four more years, and then you'll never see them again." Sage advice, it was.
Thanks for that! Encouragement is needed so much more at this time than any other in my memory for most folks all over this world. Things always get better if u hold on.
I have been around for awhile at 76 I've heard many artists but meat loaf has been one who gets to the heart n soul of every song he does he reminds me of my dad who although he was a professional works his butt off for his 3 boys was in the Army reserves for 37 years, got to be C. O. Of ft Hamilton medical unit for 14 years well talk about your heros, that to me is a hero who need no Pat on the back he knows what he did an listening to meat loaf just brings a tear to my eye after all these years pop thank you we love you no one could hold a candle to you thanks Dad
Music will never be the same. There will never be anyone like Meat Loaf. Ppl to his likeness would not be accepted with todays people no matter how good his misic is.
Easily one of the most underrated songs in history. This is epic genius. Beautiful writing, masterful delivery. Glad for the people that have gotten a chance to experience and enjoy this song. Music like this is not just something you enjoy for 5-8 mins, it takes you on a journey, makes you question life and helps you deal with some stuff.
UN BELIEVABLE SONG WORDS FEELINGS.JIM STEINMAN AND 🍖 MEATLOAF TRUE 🎩. MAGIC THANK U FROM BOTTOM OF MY HEART ❤. R.I.P. JIM STEINMAN NEVER BE ANOTHER ONE. LOVE YOU MEATLOAF. 💘
That 2nd verse , I still end up crying . All these years later. Everytime, It's like I'm 16 all over again. 😔. Every lyric I am pulled in. Meatloaf n Steinman are engraved in me. Forever. 🙏💞 With every 😓,Every 👿💃🕺💏😏, and every 🖤💔🖤....Sincerely, I thank you, Lisa.
"but that was long ago and it was far away" gets me every damn time, and as the years pass in my life, the feeling from those lyrics only grows. what an artist.
I haven't heard the song in forever it's a shame I'm just coming back to it now, it hits so differently as an adult and the lyrics so much deeper than I could understand then. RIP Meat Loaf!
It's rough cause my dad passed away a couple months ago, and meatloaf was one of his favorite singer. Meatloaf death impacted me more than I thought, because all I can think about is all the car rides I had with my dad listening to this album. It just hurts. It hurts a lot and it's hard to express it.
The cassette tape ?? I also remember cruising with my father who passed away a few years ago and this cassette seemed to always be on. When CDs became more available it was on of the first ones we bought
@@polizzi19 yeah it was the cassette tape, and something I wish I still had, but throughout the years it kind of got misplaced. My condolences about your loss, and just want to say thanks for the comment. I was actually getting pretty down today cause it's closing in on a year since his passing and I totally forgot about this comment but the comment reminded me of a happy memory and hopefully it did the same for you. So thank you so much.
I grew up with my family listening to Meat Loaf. When this album came out it was his comeback and I was a bit older, about 12 or 13. I remember this video coming out as a single to follow up “I’d do anything for love”. When I saw this video at the time I thought it seemed so dramatic and a bit over the top. This song is not one that plays too often so when I heard it the Other day I decided to watch the video, having these faint memories. What an absolute different impression it leaves on me today as a 41 year old man than as a 13 year old boy. The lyrics and video mean so much more. The losses of loved ones over the years, finding love, getting married, having beautiful wonderful children. All the hardships and all the good times. And all this is punctuated by the loss of the man himself who brought this song to life. This is for me, and I imagine many others, such an emotional song and brings me to tears. RIP Meat. Love your family and friends, and even though it’s hard to do every day, try to take tiny pauses to appreciate those we have. Rarely do we recognize the value of a moment until it has become a distant memory
I never was a huge fan of Meatloaf, but wanted to pay respect and tribute by ’discovering' his wonderfully deep, melancholic music today. So glad I did, as his depth and passion in music speaks true to my soul. I can't think of music that I ’relate’ with better then this, and I like a broad range of music. Shame I've deprived myself of this until now, it's like when I ’discovered' Pink Floyd. RIP, dear friend. You never died, you and your legacy live on in ways you never imagined! This song hurts so good, it's like reading my autobiography, or looking in a mirror... THANK YOU.
My brother retired yesterday as a firefighter/paramedic. He survived cancer, injury and circumstance to see his children grown and making their way in the world. Kudos my hero. Every scare from the past 25 years comes back like a demon to remind me of the lives I still need to guide to the future. I want my brother’s example to be like that rear view mirror. In my face, showing me how to be a father.
Meatloaf...I stand corrected it's Jim Steinman that is one of the greatest lyricists of my time. Every time meatloaf sings them it's pure soul food. Im very blessed to have their songs..
