Let’s test out the MEATER Wireless Bluetooth and WIFI BBQ Temp Probe. Does the Bluetooth work 165 Feet? What about thru doors and grill lids? Will I ever figure out the WIFI? Watch me struggle.....
Hi Tom! I got a Meater+ for Christmas from my wife and love it so far. As far as the wifi, it's easy to set up. Create a free cloud account using the app on two devices such as an iPhone and an iPad. Sign in to your cloud account on both. Set up a cook (or a test cook) using the iPad and the Meater app. Leave the iPad somewhere within range of the meater block. Take your iPhone anywhere you have service and you will receive data through the app just like you were standing by the grill. The unit basically does not have built in wifi - only bluetooth. But the phone or ipad you connect it to can relay the bluetooth data to the cloud through it's internet connection. Hope that makes sense and will help you enjoy your thermometer.
Hi Tom! Thanks so much for making this video to test out your connection to various grills and cooking devices. We wanted to reach out and clear up some things that may help. So you're correct in that the MEATER Plus charger works like an antenna, we recommend leaving as safely close to the probe as possible, like on the grill shelf of the grill/smoker for best connection from probe to charger. Someone from our tech team is reaching out to you so we can help troubleshoot why your connection isn't stable over the Cloud. We'll get this figured out for you!
Tom, it works fine in any grill Weber included, the reason why people say that is because the Weber kettles are round and the transmitter magnets won’t stick to the round shape, if for whatever reason you wanted to stick the transmitter to your grill.
The charger block is also a transmitter and should stay within several feet of the probe. The block relays & extends your range significantly. Mine reaches throughout the house.
Thank you Tom for the video but I think , this time, I'll just stick with my trust ' ol ' thermopro tp20. Works perfect everytime. no fuss, no muss.... I appreciate your videos and time sir.
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ you have to have the second device connected or you cant do wifi out of your area. One device connected to the charger block and wifi then the second can be anywhere that there's internet or using mobile data.
My son-in-law gave me a Meater+ to use with my Weber kettle and Akorn. Biggest issue I have is getting it connected. It is the perfect temp monitoring device to use with a rotisserie. Otherwise, I prefer my ThermoPro TP20 as it has proven itself to be reliable many, many times. It also does not like high temps. Once the pit gets to about 400 deg, it makes a huge OOGHAA noise.
Update: Used the Meater+ again today. Range is poor. My Akorn is 39' (measured) from my office. If I put my phone by the door, it connects. If on my desk, it loses connection. There are glass french doors and a partial wall between my phone and the Meater+. It is a great idea and I guess when looking at the robustness of the unit, one really can't expect much range. I haven't had very good luck with the cloud feature either. Just doesn't seem to work.
Okay I got mine to work on WiFi. This is what I did, on your iPad make sure meater link is enabled next make sure the Bluetooth is on the iPad and on the same WiFi network as the meater block. If you are on the same meater cloud account on both devices it should work on the phone away from home. Hope that helps.
8:42 - you say its not actually connected... You dont seem to have any wifi or phone 4G connected to internet. Your phone is not connected to internet so wont see the Meater+
Thanks for Watching! Still working thru it Gavin,, I did turn WiFi on but not sure if it connected. My I pads only work on WiFi so those should’ve connected, but they didn’t. Thanks for the advice, I’m old and new tech and me don’t get along very well
Its just finger trouble setting it all up. I have 2 Meater Blocks and a Meater + and once you connect both devices it'll always just be automatic. never blinks with mine.
