Is a mixed lance in Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries viable in end-game? In the recommended reputation area of 13/14, you'll start to be given contracts that allow you to have maximum tonnage (400). Do you sigh in relief that you can now use every bit of tonnage, or use this as an excuse to try some wacky builds (and thus greater difficulty)? This video will show off some end-game gameplay of a mixed-tonnage lance vs using a lance full of assault mechs.

This is a four year old video but I just picked up the game with only the first two dlc. Having no idea what I was doing I have been playing up to the rep 9 zones with a lance consisting of the hero urby k-9, the hero phoenix hawk it gives you in a transmission, and the hero Vulcan. I stayed in the centurion for far too long also before switching to the hero firestarter. After watching a few videos I am apparently playing the wrong way but it just works. I'm sure I'll have to switch it up as I'm starting to take more damage the higher the mission difficulty but for now it goes like this. I run ahead as the Vulcan and Phoenix stay with me. The urby tries to keep up. When encountering an enemy the two lance by my flank engage with long range and slowly close in drawing fire but avoiding most damage. I charge in and get behind and unload in the big targets. The urby lags behind clearing up any tanks and choppers that enter the fray and will eventually start taking long range sniper shots at the remaining targets. Urby usually ends up with zero damage taken and as much damage done as the other mechs. The two forward mechs will lose a couple arms and lasers in long engagements but depending on how quick I can take down legs or cores on the larger targets we usually come out under the 4k damage threshold.

I'm loving your channel. A lot has changed in the game since this video was published but as of 2022 going as heavy as possible is probably still the best bet. I have 2 Warhammers, a Black Knight, and a Kintaro I keep active in case they allow me a 4th lance mate but the other 8 are assaults. In fact, the only sub 100 ton mechs I run regularly are my Battlemasters. I find myself running 3 assaults with leftover tonnage frequently but it usually works out better than using lighter mechs because of wacky AI, pilot injuries/deaths, and repair costs. I wish the game allowed you to run with 2 or 3 lances instead of just one, then mixing tonnages would be very useful but being limited to 4 mechs and facing upwards of a couple dozen plus vehicles you need as much armor and as many large weapons as you can muster. Any other strategies are just for the fun and challenge of it.

TT_AI mod + merctech. JJ rules. Victor with JJ quick and dangerous. I like to use mobility of JJ and quick hard punches. AC20(burst fire)+SRM6+2ML enough to back-shots. LRM in MW5MERCS bad, Its usable only with Artemis, thats-why its interesting only in end-game (Stalker LRM-Boat ;-). Array of MLs - good choice for brawling. Worry for me, that Battlemaster couldnt have JJ. It's could be a good choice for aggressive gameplay. (sorry for my english).Hero Catapult is a good sniper with high damage PPCs and DHSs. Main Setup of my party - Me on Victor, Main tank on Battlemaster, Sniper on Catapult and LRM boat Stalker. Main Tactic - wait for Tanks and Helis, Than chose position for Catapult and Stalker, Then send Battlemaster to Battle and jump to back of enemies. After these - quick battle with cross-fire to targets. Win) Sometimes in heavy battles or def missions Catapult switch to brawler assault from hangar. All game search tier 5 weapons and XL engines with DHS for party.

I remember playing Mechwarrior 4 as a young teen back in 2000 on the PC. What an impressive game that was at the time, at least for me. Got Xbox Gamepass on my new PC a month ago and had to get the new Mechwarrior 5. It's not as impressive as it's predecessor was but I am having a lot of fun. I recommend getting the "Enhanced HUD (with Advanced Zoom)" mod by Navid A1.

I'm currently in the end game and I have stopped using anything less than 85t, so pretty much all assaults. I find unless things go pear-shaped there is usually lower repair costs... Plus I'm finding that the Banshee 3M is a 'better' BattleMaster for squishing vehicles!

I have to do some tests, but I haven't thought about c-bills in a long time (thankfully). You're probably right about the repair costs tho!

@@KnightKnowledge Ah... i've just loaded the game again after a week... I meant the Banshee 3S, not the 3M! The 3S has 6 energy, 1 ballistic and 1 missile hard points.

I'm glad I came across this I'm pretty new to MW I haven't played since MW on the og Xbox but I have found thet most of the time I go with one or two medium or heavy with a lot of LRM and two smaller more evasive mechs they will get in and bounce around them allowing me to hammer him

I do it all. I’m probably gonna try a new tonnage removal mod but I have a decked out fire starter hero if I have leftover tonnage and I usually pilot the kentaro golden boy or some non hero battle master cause long range weapons plus a bunch of med/small lasers with machine guns rips through alot

I usually max out the tonnage unless I can't, just simply to try and lower the amount of repair time. I'd love to play around with light mechs such as the Oxide SRM monster, but with only 12 active mech slots(and for the longest time 11 active slots due to not being able to sell from storage) it really restricts your possibilities. It feels especially restrictive as there are operations with up to 4 deployments in a row sometimes.

I hear you! Only way to do those 4 deployment operations is to have a lance of three mechs. Atleast at max tonnage it means our two lancemates can be in assault mechs!
