6:48 when Nancy glared at Oksana and then turned over and laughed it looked like she was saying "see? I told you she's gonna cry again". Not a great attitude
I mean the girl was an orphan, came from a former commie country , it was the biggest moment of her life- yeah, sure, Kerrigan wouldn't have cried if she won. Nancy also later had an affair with her older manager who divorced his wife to marry her- those endorsement deals made her very attractive, She sucks, Phony.
Obviously, everyone at the Olympics wants the gold medal, but to be the top three in the world is an outstanding feat within itself. All three of them should've been extremely proud of themselves. The irony of the 1994 scandal is that neither Nancy Kerrigan nor Tonya Harding won the gold medal that year.
I don't know much about Nancy. I'm from Australia but wow! She really doesn't seem like a very good sport here or a nice person. You see a lot of the girls congratulating each other at the Olympics on the podiums, all from different countries. This was ICY as it gets. Pardon the pun lol. But I think Nancy's attitude set the tone here and the other girls wouldn't have felt comfortable talking to or congratulating her. I notice no congratulatory hug or comments from Nancy to the winner either. The kid who won was 16 and you would think as an older girl Nancy would at least have had a kind word of encouragement and congrats for her. All she got was a death stare...whew.
Oksana didn't even win it. What are you talking about? She screwed up and she knows it. Just look at the tears and the look of sadness as she skated off the ice. She was looking for comfort as she knew she just didn't have it that night. Her artistic impression were almost as phony as her technical presentation. which is where she really screwed up. She got a free gift from back home, but don't think it was for her, They were out to cheat the American girl. Low moment in sports. You know damn good and well Nancy Kerrigan skated rings around her and Oksana knew it skating off the ice. I took a look at your girl Tonya and she was pitiful. That movie is nothing but trash and will be a flop. I looked at the trailer and almost clicked it off. So much profanity and expressions that sicken me, but that is the real Tonya Harding. She really was a she devil and don't start in with her having a hard life because her mother may have had an even harder life. Be consistent.
This whole idea that she was a poor loser and a bitchy attitude is all lie after lie after lie. Keep reading the tabloids. You are filled with hate and are unworthy to make a decision, just like the five communists.
Well the movie certainly isn't a flop and you seem about as bad of a sport as Nancy was. Oksana won it fair and square and she was the better skater. Nancy was just an ungrateful brat.
Nancy is proof on that theory about bronze medalists vs silver. In 1992 she seemed really happy and excited to win the bronze, was grinning and laughing on the podium. And then here, she looks like she'd like to drop kick Oksana back to the Ukraine.
A year later she became the first Chinese figure skater to win the world championships, and four years later she repeats as Olympic bronze medalist behind the two American, Tara Lipinski and Michelle Kwan at the 1998 Winter Olympics.
Nancy's diva attitude that night was not just an isolated case. After she won her medal She was contractually obligated by Walt Disney co, as they were one of her sponsors, to be in their commercials and various other public functions. Her very first Disney parade she was pouting and whining on the float. Loudly protesting to her mother about wearing her metal and stating repeatedly that this was "so corny" and "dumb". Disney was paying her a cool 2 million dollars to simply wave, smile and tell people to go to Disney World in commercials. Think about this, She was a grown ass 24 year old woman whining about waving on a float with Mickey Mouse and getting paid crazy amount of money for it that people would probably jump to do if they were in her shoes. Unsportsmanlike isn't the word for self entitled individuals such as herself. I will be eternally grateful that Oksana won as she was a sweetheart that truly deserved it.
Yeah, I was happy Oksana won over Nancy too, Just to add that Kerrigan then had an affair with her older married manager, who divorced his wife and married Nancy - those endorsement deals being the attraction.
@@marel6279 It was his second marriage, he was going to get a divorce, Nancy or no Nancy. It is something private and personal and you have no right to judge her like this. I wish you had people like you judging and perpetually judging you. They have been married for over 25 years. You are just another gossipy bitch.
Had Oksana or Tonya been given the same opportunities that Nancy got, given their backgrounds, both would've been so much more grateful. Nancy's program was clean but conservative, I also found it kinda boring. Oksana made it obvious that she was skating her heart out, and she threw in the triple toe at the very last second, very gutsy move
@@GGE47 It's on footage, just that she was saying it to Mickey Mouse and the person in the Mickey costume just shrugged and put his hands out, like "what do you want me to do?"
It's amazing to me how she's (and her associates) always trying to cover up and blame the media for the bad attitude that the cameras picked up. That may happen once, but she did it multiple times and it wasn't the media's fault. They gave the excuse that she was "exhausted" at DisneyWorld. That excuse may float is you're 15, but she was 24, a grown ass woman, who accepted $2 million from Disney to appear there and promote them. She was a total bitch while she was there. There's no excuse for that.
Oksana's performance was more than a tenth of a point better than Nancy's. It was amazing, whereas I'd considered Nancy to be a little boring. Nancy is also full of herself in the interview.. And geez, she's an Olympic silver medalist. She's need to cool it and be happy for that!! Not stand up there with a sour face. You can tell she was solely relying on sympathy for the attack to win the judges over to give her gold.
Peggy Fleming wrote this about Nancy... “Nancy went from a graceful competitor to a very ungracious loser,” ... “When Oksana, overcome by emotion, cried tears of joy for a good long time, Nancy’s body language was unmistakably disgusted."
@@danp9313 You're the one speaking like an idiot! Nancy's leg was far from broken, she suffered a bad bruise, that was healed in time for the Olympics & I'm sure she had the best care from Dr's & PT's!
@@danp9313 It was her kneecap and it wasn't broken or even fractured. What happened to her wasn't right, but her attitude was undignified. She even had to apologize to the Walt Disney Corp. after a comment she made on Letterman. He asked her how she liked being in an honorary parade at WDW, to which she answered that it was "corny". As an adult Disney fan, I would love to be in one of the parks' parades. Especially Disneyland.
@@ddivincenzo1194 I remember Nancy said that during the actual parade, but did she really say that again on Letterman? @@laraw9943 Are you still disturbed by one remark? If it were you, and you know you had won, you would be cussing up a storm. She looks very depressed and I can understand why. She was not like that at all. It is a figment of your imagination.
I‘m so happy and thankful that this little girl won the gold medal. For the others (maybe apart from Tonya) it would have been just some silverware, honor and confirmation. For Oksana it changed her whole life, probably saved her life. She deserves it all!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

@@danp9313 foot wasn’t broken. I know all about this case. She had a bruised knee. Sure it sucked what happened to her, but the way she acted because she didn’t win was like a little kid being mad because someone took the last piece of candy.
what really happened is that what most people dont know is that this was the first time the ukranian national anthem was played at an olympics. it was expected for kerrigan to win so of course the had the unites states national anthem ready and all that. once baiul won, they had to scramble to find the ukranian anthem, or whatever was designated. dont forget the soviet union had just dessolved 2 years prior and this was the first olympics the republics competed individually
It was because the iron curtain came down and they had the old USSR anthem. They might as well have played the soviet anthem after what the judges pulled. The five Communist bloc was still fighting the cold war and they deliberately cheated the American girl and not because they loved the Ukrainian girl. It comes from the way they were trained and should never be put it in the hands of the Communists. They cheat too much.
Oh god you are just too much. You and your conspiracy theories. You probably make a conspiracy theory out of everything that doesn't go the way you want it to.
I would just think when the reigning world champ is competing you would have her anthem on standby. I mean after she finished so high in the short program you would think they would start looking just in case
@@someperson2530 Why? He's absolutely right! Nancy did two combination jumps with clean landings...Oksana two-footed hers...The cheating of the "Eastern Bloc" countries has been a given since days of old, ESPECIALLY in pairs and ice dance. As a 10 year old in 94, i was so caught up in the Kerrigan hype train that i was pissed to see her get the silver. Now seeing how terrible her sportsmanship was and what a sore loser she was, I wish that she didn't even place. Oksana deserved it and I'm happy she won.
we all were sucked into the go nancy whats wrong with you tonya but now we are all grown up we see the poo face that tonya was talking about. here tonya is with a cursed skate blade and boot and she tried her hardest.
@I love shawarma more than my life I don't think she was laughing.. I think she just felt awkward and didn't know what to say.. Or didn't understand lol
I love this footage for the details ... Notice how Nancy doesn't clap when Oksana gets the gold medal but instead looks back at someone laughing as if saying "look, she's crying again". Oksana claps for Nancy though. It's through such details that you get to see what a person is truly worth
And she was scowling while looking at the gold medal being placed on Oksana's neck. Chen Lu was still a teenager back then yet she had more class and grace than Nancy did at 24
@@mht4908 How do you know that? You are imagining stuff and you are so far off base. Nancy was naturally disappointed, and you can't say anything but wha5t your hateful mi8nd dreams up. You are so evil.
....and then the forgotten Chen Lu goes on to become one of, if not the most elegant figure skater I have ever seen. Even to this day, her elegance remains unmatched.
nancy's reaction to having to wait for the medal ceremony as if it was oksana's fault when they were actually looking for ukraine's national anthem always gets me. this was ukraine's first ever olympics as an independent nation, and oksana won their ONLY gold medal during those games. yes, it was worth it to take extra time to find her anthem!!! the first time ukrainians would hear their anthem during the medal ceremony!!! i get that she didn't know in the moment that that was what was taking a long time, but even if it was just oksana delaying them - i think she'd earned the right to cry
Exactly. Oksana was an orphan that lost her closest family before she even turned 14, Nancy had all these sponsorships and Vera Wang costumes. The girl just won the most prestigious competition in the world, there's no fault in her, or anyone that had the same achievement, being emotional about the win
@Elina Balt I truly agree even though there were some controversies that Nancy lost the gold by a tiebreaker by the German judge. Oksana shows grace and elegance, and that gives her the edge. Nancy would have won it if the first mark the technical merit was the tiebreaker. I think the judging system is fair that Oksana deserves the gold even though I am an American, obviously the Americans feel the same way of wanting Nancy to win. Also, I speak to Oksana once, and she seems to be nice.
I wonder why it took so long to find the National Anthem of Ukraine, I have heard the national anthem of Ukraine during the 1992 Olympics for the women's all-around medal ceremony.
I remember watching this live and thinking to myself that Nancy was such a sore loser. Her comments, body language, etc. She deserved bronze for her attitude alone.
Unfortunately, sometimes these athletes lose sight of the most important responsibility they have at a major competition -- to be gracious. Some don't seem to understand that they will be remembered as much for their sportsmanship as their skills in said sport. This is why Rafa Nadal is so adored, whereas Djokovic... not so much!
Oksana made history when she won the gold for Ukraine because 1994 that was when they gained their independence. That was basically one of their 1st gold medals as an independent country. Unfortunately people tend to forget that because was overshadowed by that embarrassment known as Nancy.
she actually won their first ever gold medal as an independent country! (ukraine became independent in 1991 but didn't compete in 1992.) and the only one during those games. i wasn't alive at the time, but as a ukrainian i'm sure it meant a lot to hear the anthem and have a beautiful athlete like oksana representing the country at the height of excellence
Nancy Kerrigan was quite nasty in her loss to a far superior sportswoman. She was so sure she had the gold medal in the bag and couldn't accept she didn't win. Well done Oksana. You went on to have a brilliant career in your sport. Nancy Kerrigan could never have come close.
I had to look back at this with all the talk about the Harding biopic coming out. Kerrigan really wasn't the end all be all. I remember cheering for her because she was an American. Now, as an adult looking at this I don't see any passion in Nancy's performance. Baiul was on fire and put her heart into her performance. Now knowing what I do about Kerrigan, I'm glad she didn't win the gold. What a poor sport.
@@SymphonyBrahms By far, in my eyes & not just by a tenth of a point! I feel Nancy got higher scores than she really deserved, due to her knee injury, esp. from the American judge!
@@tamarab6259 That's ridiculous. This was actually the best Nancy ever skated and she absolutely deserved her scores. Nancy was very talented but pretty inconsistent and if you watch her other performances, she often did not skate clean.
@@tamarab6259 When I say she's inconsistent, I mean she didn't skate clean in other competitions. She was not inconsistent in Lillehammer. Watch her at the Albertville Olympics compared to here- she had falls and she made errors and the only reason she medalled bronze is because a lot of other skaters also didn't do their best either. I think she deserved her scores here. She skated well.
The only reason Nancy Kerrigan got medal is because of Harding drama in the past. The judges felt sorry for her. Can't believe how spoiled and ungrateful she is talking about Oksana Baiul. Why... Nancy, why...
What a shame for Nancy☹☹☹So unsportsmanlike!Just like Debi Thomas at Calgary Olympics in 1988,she hadn't congratulate Katarina Witt for winning the gold medal. They will always be rememberd for this bad conduct.Oxana was just a sweet little angel and i will never forget her❤❤❤🌹🌹🌹
Especially considering that the only reason Nancy got any medal at all is because Tonya got disqualified. If the scandal hasn't happened at all or Tonya wasn't disqualified, Tonya may have gotten the gold medal or the silver. Oksana was the only one who could match her talent. There's truly no telling who would have gotten which medal. That means the best Nancy could have done was the bronze and Chen My probably would have beaten Nancy in that because there would be no sympathy votes. Nancy probably would have placed 4th or 5th and no one would remember her.
I'm sorry but as someone who is a fan of figure skating, this just isn't true. Nancy Kerrigan may have had a bad attitude but was technically a good skater and gave her best performance at these olympics. She's not my favorite skater but if you truly think she wasn't very good, you don't know much about figure skating, the difficulty of the elements , etc.
How come they stopped doing this? It's such a cool image with the skaters standing on the podium on the ice, wearing their costumes with their medals. Now they wait until later and have the skaters wear their team track suits with their medals, which is not as pretty of an image.
RIGHT? It's ONLY at the Olympics they delay the medal ceremonies until the skaters have changed out of their dresses. At worlds and every other competitions as of 2019, all the skaters are still wearing their competitive costumes.

I was so happy when this girl seemed to come out of nowhere and knock the drama queens Nancy and Tanya off their pedestals. Oksana skated beautifully and deserved to win. Chen Lu showed a lot of class too.
Just pointing out, Oksana didn't come "out of nowhere," she was actually the reignng world champion at the time. There was so much fuss about Nancy and Tonya that most sports commentators did not seem to realise that neither of them were the favourite to win, Oksana was.
Nancy felt hurt by the results, that was clear. But she was representing the USA on that podium and should have been more poised. I think Chen Lu got an up-close lesson that day on how not to embarrass yourself. When she lost at '96 Worlds, she was a great sport during the ceremony - and she was DEFENDING a title. As for the judging - it was too subjective in those days. The new system is better and as new skaters come in it will be proven better, I believe.
She wasn't actually trailing them at all - she was the 1994 world champion. The Worlds were held 4 months prior to the Olympics. There was so much fuss about Tonya and Nancy that it didn't seem to register with anyone that neither of them were the reigning world champion, Oksana was.
@@sgeetha7350 Oops, right you are. Here in the US, the media did definitely focus on the Nancy and Tonya incident, but I actually remember my grandma telling me that read somewhere that a young girl from Ukraine was a favorite to win. When I heard she had (before it even aired in my time zone), I wasn't surprised at all.
Are you aware of what the anthem is called? It translates literally to "Ukraine Has Not Yet Died" and it speaks to the dream of independence and identity clung to by a people colonized and often oppressed throughout history. No wonder those hearing it are often moved to tears.
She’s not a nice person in every interview she has a bad attitude. Bad sport. I mean really the girl is young n crying tears of happiness. She’s obviously sour she didn’t win gold
Adrianne Grosse yeah, but who could blame her? Totally agree that wasn’t the right way to handle it, but after all she went through, to lose by 1 tenth of one point by one judge, that sucks. If there is one thing you can say about Nancy, it’s that she’s honest, lol. Too bad she didn’t do that I’m private though.
I had never seen the behind the scenes comments of Kerrigan. She should be ashamed of her poor sportsmanship. Although she had been through a lot, Olympians are thought to be good sportsman. I'm embarrassed, even now, that a representative of the U.S. team was so incredibly petty.
@@eepyeepers Me too. She reminds me a lot of Tonya herself despite their different backgrounds. Nancy seemed completely oblivious to the emotions of her fans watching her receive her medal. I would've expected her to blow kisses or wave lovingly to her fans. I don't know how Tonya would have reacted. We will never know. I don't even blame Nancy entirely for her demeanor. She was in a way a product of her environment as well.
@@olive4naito True, and not only that, it was so long ago- both Nancy and Tonya are probably embarrassed by their past behaviors. As for this video, I feel Nancy should be forgiven for something she did 25 years ago.
I was so disappointed that Nancy did not come down after Oksana's free skate to greet Oksana and congratulate her. I was pulling for Nancy but Oksana's performance and reaction moved me to tears. I wanted Nancy to act like Witt I guess, who exemplified the grace and maturity Nancy should have shown.
What poor sport Nancy Kerrigan was, she said herself that she was proud after maybe missing the games, she skated her best. I just don’t think you should be making smart comments on camera or looking angry about not winning gold, do that off camera. So many kids look up to these athletes and they get money from ‘Endorsements’ because of their popularity. Very disappointing 😢😢
Looking back many years later I remember this was the one time I recall rooting for an Olympic skater other than a fellow American for the women's gold. Oksana Baiul was innocent, sympathetic and highly artistic and deserved the Gold. I do think Nancy Kerrigan's snarky attitude and the fact Tonya Harding was a total embarrassment added to my support for the young Ukrainian.
Whatever Nancy, you got PITTY silver medal all because of the scandal, and yet, people remember oksana and Tonya, all they remember You by is you're the WHY! girl. Such poor attitude in the end.
I like Nancy's skating & even agree with Scott Hamilton that either way it would've went (Oksana or Nancy for gold) would have been fair BUT I'm glad Oksana won just for the fact that Nancy has poor sportsmanship! What a Bi Otch!! Saying all that in front of the cameras! And all through the ceremony she lookes pissed off & disgusted. Check out her expression when she watches Oksana recieve the medal! Very disgusted then like she thinks "oh yeah I'm supposed to smile here" LOL
I get being pissed but girl, you’re representing your country and everyone’s watching whilst you make such horrible comments. Shut your mouth and smile for the cameras then go home and bitch about it later.
It irritates they always pick on Jan Hoffmann. Scott Hamilton himself defended Jan, saying that he was a man of great integrity. Judges didn't have the benefit of replay in '94 and the judges likely would've judged the same based on Baiul's artistic performance over Kerrigan's stronger technical content. Hoffmann himself was asked about it later and he still felt that while Nancy's performance was beautiful it was 'cold' versus Oksana's whose performance he felt radiated from 'inside'.
@faeryquene It also kind of bugs me that he gets presented as the "tie breaking" judge, as if they had all consulted together when it was a 4-4 tie and he was left to cast the final vote. Really, any of the judges who gave Oksana the first place ordinal could have been considered the tie-breaker. I think they highlighted his because he gave them the same score with Oksana having the higher artistic mark. I think CBS just wanted emphasize to the American audience that Nancy almost won and he was the perfect judge to use for that. But again, it was less about the scores and more about the ordinals. Nancy could have gotten all 6.0s from four of the judges and still lost.
As symphony and philharmonic orchestras around the world now play this anthem as a sign of solidarity with the people of Ukraine, I felt a need to come back and remember this particular moment, the first time that many people heard it, and the first time in an Olympic Games... I will recall the pride my grandmother felt in seeing the flag her parents embraced and knew but never lived or dared imagine would fly again over a sovereign nation, let alone in the Olympic Games, raised over the ceremony in Norway, and ignore the petty behavior of certain athletes who showed their true character that night...
La mirada de Kerrigan es de "maldita" y su expresión es de que no está para nada contenta con el resultado.😡 Pero su presentación no fue tan llamativa como la de Oksana. Ni hablar, ella merecía el oro.🤷
How is that arrogant? She first said herself she missed her first jump, but then realized well it wasn’t what I was supposed to do but I still did it well. I know her comment regarding Oksana was rude, but there’s no need to rip her to shreds for trying to make a positive light on her first jump.
@@Musickt196 Her tone was condescending to the interviewer who simply repeated what Nancy herself had just said. Nancy said she missed her first jump. The interviewer asked her how she felt when she missed her first jump and how she was able to go through the rest of the program - valid question since many skaters will flub the rest of the program with an early mistake. Nancy then denies that she missed the first jump and acts as though the interviewer was crazy for asking that. A better answer would have been that it didn't go as planned but it was still strong.
@@bexlo9794 Honestly, are we really going to nitpick every little thing she said? Nobody would have cared if this were anyone else. @@CanadianMonarchist Actually, if you know anything about the American "class" system, you know there are various degrees w/in each of our "classes". For example, in our "working class"...aka the "middle class"...we have lower-middle, mid-middle & upper-middle. Kerrigan's family are definitely "upper-middle". This means they have a great chance to supersede their original "class" & move at least into the lower echelon of the "upper class". Further, each 5-10 year segment, the definition of what constitutes our "working class" changes according to inflationary rates, & other financial markers. Also, this argument closed 4+ years ago. Not that I agree with how Kerrigan reacted, I just keep thinking about the fact that she lost the gold medal to a 16 year old by 1/10 of a point after all the work she did just to get there.... I totally understand her frustration....
Of course all the other skaters worked hard to get there too. You don't just get the medal handed to you because of a bizarre knee bashing incident- her skating was the same as it had been before the incident so it didn't affect her skating. If that would be the case then don't bother having a competition even.
Doesn't mean she has to be mean to the teen (then), who was an orphan for pete sake and from a former commie country that won. Bayul never did anything to her.
Nancy had a tough time hiding her natural contempt, jealousy and self-righteous attitude here. Her egocentric behavior is remarkable. What's ironic about this is that even though she won silver, she goes back to the US towards enormously lucrative deals where Oksana gets nothing even close to what Nancy gets financially and she's only 17, became an orphan at the age of 13 when both her grandparents and mother died.
they really painted nancy to be the sweetheart, but she's literally a terrible sport, she basically mocks oksana the whole time, when oksana deservedly won and is so unproblematic
