Kopparapu Kavulu, also known as Kopparapu Sodara Kavulu, were two of the foremost exponents of the literary form called 'avadhanam' in Telugu literature. They were known for their exceptional talent and achievements in composing poetry at a remarkable speed, which was described as manavatita or beyond human capacity. They were highly reputed poetic scholars both in Sanskrit and Telugu during the late 19th and early 20th century. They had rival poets, namely Tirupathi Venkata Kavulu, during their time, and there used to be a healthy poetic rivalry between these two duo poetic groups. However, the rivalry has taken an unfortunate turn leading to vaidki-niyogi divide due to the sycophancy indulged in by the followers of Tirupathi Venkata Kavulu. As a result, there was a clandestine propaganda against Copparapu poets when the latter were alive and later. To counter this nasty propaganda, a number of eminent poets, poetic scholars, pandits, and followers have collected a lot of evidence to show the superiority of Copparapu Poets over Tirupathi Venkata Kavulu

The first half of the twentieth century was truly a golden age for Telugu literature, after a similar such phase during Sri Krishnadevaraya’s reign. The period between 1950 and 1980 saw great literary output across various genres too, but the early twentieth century saw the revival of ‘avadhanam’ - a great literary form in Telugu.
Kopparapu Sodara Kavulu - ‘the poet-brothers of Kopparam’ - were two of the foremost exponents of this form. Their talent and achievements have been described as manavatita or beyond human capacity, in the era of many janta-kavulu (pairs of poets). The prominent pairs at the time were the great Tirupati-Venkata Kavulu, Venkata-Ramakrishna Kavulu, Venkata-Parvateeswara Kavulu and Pingali-Katuri Kavulu.
