A very common question I see being asked by first timers to Medellín is 'How do I get from the airport to the city?'
You have 2 basic options:
#1: Airport colectivos for a flat rate of 99,000 COP
#2: San Diego bus for 20,000 COP
UPDATE: I NO LONGER PROVIDE ONE-OFF CAR SERVICES FOR TOURISTS. HOWEVER MY DRIVER TEAM CONTACT, TOUR GUIDES, AND OTHER LOCAL GUIDES ARE ALL INCLUDED IN MY MOVE TO MEDELLÍN ONLINE COURSE ALONG WITH ALL OTHER SERVICE PROVIDERS NECESSARY TO MAKE A MOVE TO MEDELLÍN.: mimedellin.thinkific.com/cour...

Uber is fully operational in Medellín. They were only down for a short time. Six years since 2017. Uber always finds a legal workaround. If not the metro i only use Uber including to & from the airport.They just wait until they have a rider in the opposite direction just like taxis. Planes come and go all day & half the night.

Now the platform is setup as you're renting a car with the driver. There's a lot of información available by Uber.

This video is information is important for first-time travelers to Medellin as there are literally scammers waiting at the airport to find road-weary travelers to put them in fake taxis.

Absolutely! Even the most basic info is important for travelers to know. Medellin is generally safe, but there’s always the chance someone falls into the wrong hands. Thanks for your comment! 🙏🏼

This is very true. But there are other options still available.

Taxi would be the easiest and pretty much similar price to Uber. In Medellin/airport Taxis have a meter so you would never be ripped off. All cab drivers have a license and ID displayed on the rear of the car. By far the safest way to get around at cheap prices. And one dont have to wait around for an Uber. The bus is the cheapest @14mil pesos ($3) but not for 1st timers unless you're a witty traveler. Perfectly safe and easy. Unless Im in a hurry I usually take the bus and then a taxi from San Diego to my final destination. NOTE: Outside of Medellin most Taxis dont use a meter so make sure you negotiate the price before boarding!!! Otherwise you are at their mercy! Which is still not bad. For me Uber is the most convenient way to get around once you are in the city. Super safe and easy, you dont need to have cash on hand to pay if your credit card is setup. Prices are really good. Their vehicles are usually much better than Taxis and they do care about their reviews so they will be extra friendly. One of the passengers do have to sit in the front seat due to Uber in general not being very welcomed in Colombia, that way it look like you're riding with a friend in the front! With all that said, I might have to try your car service sometime. I wouldn't mind getting picked up at the airport in a 4runner!

Hi is the airport taxi (collectivo) rate for 1 person ?
@theredtravelingbackpack-qj9lj
Thank you for the info! Can travelers get cash from the ATM in the airport?
@RedroomStudios
@RedroomStudios Год назад
no, of course not. Colombia is in the stone age so they dont offer the same conveniences as every other country in the world.

Respectfully, I don't want to knock your company or your advice buuuut....whilst Uber is illegal it worked perfectly fine for me and I've gone to and fro the airport in Uber 3 times. I wish I'd known about the colectivos when I went to Medellin. Instead I got scammed. A guy at the airport asked if we wanted a taxi and had us go with some random guy in a regular vehicle who basically charged us about $75 USD. I knew it was a scam but once he had us in the vehicle what could I really do but just thank God that he actually took us where we asked to go. Ironically I saw the same guy like the next day in Guatape living his best life spending the money he scammed us out of 😭

Wow, I'm so sorry that happened to you! I STILL do not suggest taking Uber, however, because as the airport is a major hub for taxis, the authorities have reason to be lurking around and being vigilant of this kind of thing. If they see the exchange of money happening they can legally charge the driver. I get that it's easy to rely on this universal app that's so helpful all over the world, but that's precisely why I made this video to help inform people of the colectivos just waiting there for you. If you request an Uber and you're waiting around with your phone out, you could essentially be 'dando papaya' or putting yourself in a more vulnerable situation to being approached by these guys offering you a ride and then you get charged outrageously. So, yeah at least you now know of the colectivos for the future and I'm also protecting my company by not promoting illegal activity no matter how absurd that might be to foreigners. ;)

@@Hombre_Viajero_2023 that is not the main reason I give in both the previous comment and in the video. Please read again or watch again in case you didn't get it. ;) I do not suggest using Uber or any other taxi app service from the airport.

@@laurenlagringa I never have problems leaving or coming to the airport by Uber. Day or night. They are literally there waiting. Just recently from Cartagena back to Medellín . Bogotá same thing. In the middle of the night. Been doing it since 2017.

CALL an uber its only 90K pesos thats like $15 and saves you the hassle. My time is worht more than $15/hr so im not going to take a bus and then waste more time to get to my hotel. Ive been using uber in medellin for more than 2 years and havent had any problems

Bus then Uber… worst option always is a taxi in Medellin. They are the most corrupt by far.

@@laurenlagringa no no I’ve lived there 2 years. You should clarify there are many scammers at the airport posing as taxis or the yellow taxis are super corrupt. The white taxis are the only option if one truly loves taxis( not sure why).
