Is it safe to wear a magnetic name tag or lanyard button with an implanted medical device? This video explains how magnets and implanted devices interact and how far away a magnetic name tag would need to be.

One more thing just occurred to me. Just before implant the Medtronic Rep played the device tones for me from MY actual device, so I knew what I’d hear. I had asked a question about a large magnet I’m exposed to where I do my art work. I found it very helpful when she did that. Just ask them to let you hear it so you know what to listen for. It is a VERY soft tone!

Most doctors prefer to place device on left side. Yours is on the right. So for many of us things that clip to left pocket are closer than ix inches from the device. I carry my cell phone in my shirt left pocket. It is an iPhone X. My doctor says modern cell phones are not an issue. Do you agree?

Hi Michael, I do agree that modern cell phones + modern devices are not an issue. But, the medical device companies still recommend a 6 inch distance between smart phones and your device, so that is what I promote. Thanks for watching!

Just got my device yesterday. A fellow PM wearer told me about boutonnière magnet accidentally being right on top of his device and causing tone. It took them a long time to figure out the tone was coming from his device! They just kept hearing this on and off very soft tone but it never occurred to them it was the PM device. This was a very small magnet on outside of tuxedo interfering with his device.

My work switched over to magnetic name tags. There was a warning on the back not to use with pacemakers. My boss had to modify mine with a safety pin. Better safe than sorry.

I have an ICD, I've been utilizing magnetic name-tags for work for years. However, my name tag is on the left side of my uniform shirt and badge is over ICD area. Never had an issue.
