Mare Nostrum was the Roman name for the Mediterranean sea. Mare Nostrum translates to "Our Sea", so called by the Romans because they had conquered everything around the Mediterranean Sea, and as such, it was their sea. Hence, Mare Nostrum.
@@communistdeer technically, yes, some part of southern France and East Spain (today) was under the newly formed Germanic kingdoms. But in reality no one could challenge them at Mediterranean Sea so de facto they could be considered full control of it. Credit to where credit is due, after them none could ever control the Mediterranean Sea that much, not even the Arabs nor the Ottoman. For other example, we say "the British empire ruled the wave" although technically they couldn't control the wave of water, and figuratively a lot of other nations had good navy as well so the British couldn't really "ruled" these nations, but still we say it that way because the British navy was the best of the world, far ahead of any nation after them. Also, the Byzantine empire were the continuation of Roman empire, thus a lot of things would be carried to the Eastern empire, so it's not suprised that they would call Mediterranean Sea "Our sea" even when not control full of it.
There actually was a tribe that lived in the Caucasus called the Iberi. Naturally, the land belonging to the Iberi would be called "Iberia". It's just one of those funny coincidences you get in languages.
i destroyed your Faction a few turns ago as the Turks... and i must say it feels good not having to worry about a spam army of Genoese Crossbowmen MUWAHAHAHAHA!
I dont know how many times ive heard this, lining up my proud free men of Venice, Corrico standard defiant, looked upon by rank upon rank of citizen soldiers, marching to deal with whatever invader had dared challenge such a city. And it never. got. old. 1:52 especially.
How about when my brave 500 man garrison at Constantinople was challenged with a jihad army of 2000? Those brave 500 won and they had 20 people left. Or the time where I was fighting a multiplayer battle against the Papal States, where 1 Byzantine Guard Archer unit held back many Papal Guard? The song playing must have encouraged the soldiers to fight for THEIR SEA!
Jack Tanner Ah my friend, but I've heard this song many times, lining up my Papal Guard, Pavise Crossbows, and my knights, against the other Italian States, or the dreaded legions of Byzantium and even defending the holy lands from the ever atrocious Egyptians...
I did a workout while listening to this amazing soundtrack and i felt so confident and rdy for more ...this song is very powerful and i rly appreciate how the creators did their best to make it perfect for certain situations...
If it's a siege battle, and the AI gets confused, you hear the commander start screaming this about two hundred times a minute. MoveOutForwardForwardUnitsMoveOutMoveOutForwardForwardForwardUnitsAdvanceMoveOutForwardForward
@HiveFleetHydra The romans called the peninsula Iberia, because the first great river they found there was the river Iberus (Ebro). The greeks called the peninsula Hispania, because they were shakened because of the great number of rabbits XD. Hispania means "Land of rabbits", it isn't a joke haha
@@jeremyong4646 Theres a reason for that. Around 1050, a large group of Normans invaded Sicily for the Pope as it was being occupied by a particularly powerful Muslim Caliphate, and after driving the Muslims off of Sicily the Pope rewarded the Norman Campaign Leader the title of "King of Sicily", that King was "King Roger" your faction leader as Sicily in Medieval II at the start of the game. So technically at the start of Medieval 2, Sicily as actually a mix of Normans, Italians, and Muslims; which is represented by the normal Italian Roster, The Unique Muslim Archers, and the Special Norman Knights.
1:51 the best part. You can feel the build-up from the begginging of the soundtrack up to this point. Two armies lining up on a field to fight in a bloody battle against each other. Then 1:51 hits up and you can see another group, a group of cavalrymen, charging from sides with banners and spears. Crushing the two armies. A suprise attack.
its fun to hear the choir musics in siege.. Because its like.. I dont know how to explain ITS EPIC! This game is epic! Medieval 2 is the best war game i've ever played.
Mare Nostrum (Our Sea/Ocean) was the term the Romans had for the Mediterranean Sea after they defeated Carthage and they were the sole naval power in the area
@kukumarro You are almost correct. Yet, it was the Phoenecians who named it Hispania. I looked it up because I am Greek and I couldn't break down Hispania to its components. The ancient greek word for rabbit is koniklos and land is of course, gaia.
you go into your /medieval directory then you go /data/sounds/music and then there is this 1 file called music.dat copy that to your desktop, change the filename from dat to mp3 and you got the whole soundtrack (not just songs) from the entire game. (its 1 big file)
@Clavsicus Go to Mare Nostrum on Wiki, you'll see the Caucus with the title Iberia on it, and only a small portion of the internet uses photo editing software so I think it's reliable.
To end all semantic and grammatical discussions, "Mare Nostrum" comes from Latin, it means Our Sea and it was used by ancient Greeks and Romans to say the Mediterranean Sea.
@@erensametkaratas6593 Still alive and still appreciating this style of music :D Thanks for the throwback to another comment I left when I was 14 lol..
@@emrecanarduc4378 That's right. Usually I delete these old comments immediately when I see them - they sometimes come back to haunt me and work like a direct channel to a cringier version of myself... But here I was basically just stating the truth, so why not.. All hail Jeff! :D
I wonder why there isn't a seperate music style created for this sort of music.I've searched everything from folk techno to tribal beats, but nothing is even similar to this.
Forward warriors of Byzantium! let's get our lost empire back! Death, great death to all who will go against us! Rome will be taken back. Glory to everyone who dies in this battle
You should know that the ppl who lives in those regions and "don't find themselfs spanish" are only a very low % ( less than 14% last time i saw it). And I am pretty sure 'cos I live there
sorry, but i think the only way to make it into a playlist is to bring the file into a music editing program like audacity (its free) and then split the file where the file plays a new track so to say. Or you could just trash the whole soundtrack file and get youtube downloader, then you can just download the songs seperately from youtube.
