I have been a Mac user since 2013 and was recently forced to buy a Windows laptop precisely due to the lack of dental CAD software for the Apple ecosystem. Although the Windows ecosystem has improved a lot in recent years, it really does not come close to how fluid and stable MacOS is, so knowing that there is the possibility of using a scanner with a Mac makes me 100% inclined to buy this scan over other options on the market.
I totally agree! Once you use a MacBook it's crazy how much better it is compared to windows haha. This was my first and is now my go-to laptop. It is impressive that Medit took this initiative and are the first to be Mac compatible.
Great review. The main reason why I went with Medit was because it runs on a MBP. My other scanner that runs on Windows is no where near as seamless and fluid.
Thanks! Totally agree. Once you use MacBook Pro from a Windows laptop, it is crazy how much better it is. Good on Medit for pioneering this. I expect to see others follow suit eventually.
Thank you my friend! Both will work. Apple is just nicer but has less dental software that works on it. If you are thinking you just want to run medit software on your apple, no exocad etc. I would get it. I am using a Macbook Pro M2 MAx
Considering a mac for the medit i700 I have. My two main use after scanning is designing surgical guides with BSB. Are there any Mac surgical guide design software?
Merci
Hey there, to be honest I barely use HD mode. I dont think it is a huge disadvantage. In our comparisons we have not found a big difference in accuracy in HD vs Non-HD mode. You can see our comparisons here: instituteofdigitaldentistry.com/category/idd-compares/
wireless i700, benchmarked it in real case scenario and was disappointed: post processing on top of the line 16' m3 max takes bit longer than on 5.y.o. desktop i9900KF(1m35s vs 1m25s) , had a feeling that rtx4080 might helped the desktop, but top 2019 intel macbook pro performed not as bad as i expected: post processing took 2m0s(using windows) which is strange considering that it's at least 4 less powerfull. Scaning was also not as smooth as on windows laptops with rtx4070. Considering the price i would not recomend to use macbook for meditlink, unless you already have one.
Im sorry to hear this! I think the issue is your trying to use an m3. If you look on their website they have only approved m1 and m2. Personally with my m2 MacBook Pro I find the post processing much faster than my laptop and scanning equal to windows. Good to know though, so perhaps those reading need to avoid m3 for now until it’s sorted by Medit
For screen sharing from a Mac, yes. So can see the scanning on the iPad. But you cannot run Medit Link off an iPad directly. Or at least for now. Perhaps the company is considering it.
