I am new to meditation. I play poker at a semi high level and I am looking for an edge. Recent WSOP champ is big on meditation. Just watched your first video and already feel a calm that is very new to me.
Hello Sean, Poker is such a mental game, emotions run so high. I am not surprised that the champion is big on meditation as it helps to find a sense of stability, solidity and clarity in the midst of an emotional whirlwind. Many top level performers practice meditation to be able to perform to the best of their abilities in the most stressful moments. Glad you joined the meditation train. I hope this will give you the edge you're looking for and being you event more goodness! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
This is very relaxing to listen to you. in my line of work it can be very stressful so I have been looking for someone that I can connect with and learn from easily. Subbed!
Thanks Cindy-lou. I bet, it must be quite stressful. These tools, mindfulness practices and meditation will help you to regulate your emotions. A good friend of mine is a Realtor and I know there are a lot of uncertainties in this field. I hope you will find useful tips in these practices.
It took me less than 2 minutes to convince me that you know what you're talking about. I've been practicing breathing meditation for 7 years now and I like the way you describe the steps. I'm sharing this!
Thank you for your comment and sharing the video! Much appreciated ... how's your meditation journey going for you? Is there anything you're practicing or struggling with at this moment? I'll be back with more videos this summer. Right now, I am focusing on my own practice. Cheers to you! Be well
Hey thanks for your kind reply Olivier, that's so sweet of you. I'm new to meditation and the breathing gig, so your video was super helpful. I tend to hold my breath or take very shallow breaths, so your 4 step programme really hit the spot, thanks you so much. Plus I love your voice! All the best with your practice, Sophie
Hi! I think you’ll find my latest video helpful as I share about what I wish I knew before starting meditation: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BQglZbHGDII.html
For some time I have thought I needed meditation to slow down my life and calm me. I am so glad to have found this video, as it was easy to understand and put into practice. Thank you.
Love the snow globe analogy! I'd love for you to do videos for working with children, specifically 2-6 years of age. Gratitude and blessings for your gifts and videos! Thanks for sharing!
Hi! I do not have experience teaching mindfulness with children so I cannot speak from experience here. I know of 2 books that I think would be resourceful for you: 1. Planting Seeds: Practicing Mindfulness with Children by Thich Nhat Hanh 2. Happy Teachers Change the World: A Guide for Cultivating Mindfulness in Education by Thich Nhat Hanh There are many activities as I am sure you know that helps coming back to the present moment, befriending emotions and thoughts and watering the wholesome seeds in the mind of the children. Please, stay in touch, I'd love to keep hearing how your training and your experience teaching mindfulness to children is going and let me know if you have any questions or need any help.

Thank you so much for your sharing. I off my meditation practice for awhile and now by seeing your video I stared to meditate again . Looking forward to see your next video.
@Tu Hoc Thank you for joining the channel!! So glad you're joining the band! Next week, I will have some tips to maintain a regular meditation practice. It's a common challenge among meditators!
Thank you so much for this video. This is exactly what I needed. I lost my son a few months ago in a very bad tragedy. I’ve been grieving very badly the way that I haven’t been to able to go on with my routine life. Haven’t been able to focus on anything but living in a constant pain and sorrow with frequent suicidal thoughts crossing my mind. I heard meditation would help me out. I don’t know anything about meditation but I think this video is a good start for me. Looking forward to more of your videos in the future. God bless you
Hello gemenigal, I am so sorry for your loss. I feel your pain with you. Nothing will remove the pain, but with tools you may suffer less and find a way back to live a "normal" life again. My teacher, Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh said: "If you know how to suffer, you will suffer less." He too lost many friends and students during the Vietnam war. Meditation can heal. It really can. You can learn how to be with your pain, how to generate compassion for yourself. What would be useful in my opinion is to find a group to support you in your journey. There are meditation groups that meet online or in person. In the meditation tradition that I practice in, we practice listening to each other, listening to each other pain and it is one of the most healing practice i have encountered. Just to be able to share one's pain and feel to be understood and supported. It doesn't have to be a lonely journey. We need each other. You can find an online group here: www.plumline.org/. In terms of resources, a book from my teacher called: "how to live when a loved one dies" would help you soothe your pain. Here's a talk: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-efjfH2kP_2M.html From my experience, the fundamental practice is to recognize your pain and embrace it, breathe with it with the most tenderness you can generate and find healing elements in the present moment as much as you can. Hope this helped but always feel free to reach out, I am honored to help you.
I've been putting off my first intentional step into meditation for so long but your video has motivated me to begin the journey to the here and now. Looking forward to not looking forward or backward 😄
😀 Hi there :) I am glad I am helping you to get on that train! It's a good one :) Practicing meditation is never a straight path, there are many turns so stay motivated!
One thing I found helpful was to read books from Thich nhat hanh. They are very inspirational and have supported me so many times over the past years. I review some of this books in my latest video. Have a great day!
Hi @@farijuni :) I think any of his books are good. Peace Is Every Steps or the more recent version, Peace Is Every Breath is good. It talks about the many mindfulness practices we can do in our daily lives. I really enjoyed the Art of Communicating as well. They are all so good.
I just came across this channel. I have been looking on how to meditate since past few days but I guess this is it. I might get all my answers here. Thank you so much for making this series for beginners. I hope I reply back soon on my meditation progress.

in order for me to stop my mind wandering I have an app on my phone that I can set for a bell to be struck every 1 minute/5 minutes etc for any duration. I'm a beginner and it helps me a lot.
Hi Pete, I used to do that as well, yes I agree, it is very helpful. I am glad you're finding tools to support you in your practice. I have more to say and share about that in future videos. Stay tuned! How's your practice these days? What brought you to meditation?
Thank you for sharing this great beginners video for mindful meditation, I liked how very simple you explained it all. Will for sure add to my shared videos and look forward to your next.
There are many different paths that lead to the same realization. Mindfulness or the cultivation of mindful awareness is one way. There are other practices as you mentioned that involve deep breathing techniques. I have too little experience with those to offer proper guidance. I think however that what I share is a little easier to start with on your own. Deep breathing may lead to strong experiences faster. Mindfulness is more gentle. It’s about slowing down, getting to know your mind. Getting to know your true self. It’s about being mindful throughout your day, recognizing your patterns, changing them, cultivating seeds of compassion in you. Hope this helps, feel free to reach out again if you need to.
Thank you! Happy that it helped. I have a few more videos where I share some tips on my channel for feel free to browse them and if you have any questions, leave them in the comments and I'll answer them. Have a great day!
There is a whole science about breathing techniques in the yogic system with short fast breaths then long deep breaths and so on. I honestly know very very little of it but you could find it interesting. What i practice and share is mindfulness meditation. In this practice, we train ourself to see things are they truly are without adding any comments or judgement to what is happening which in turn helps to understand things better and have more clarity. (And we start with the breath) . That being said, I do enjoy taking a few deep breaths at the beginning of my meditation. It helps open up the body and relax it and also redirect the mind to the breath by emphasizing the breath. Then I go back to a natural breathing pace. Does it make sense and does this help?

Thank you for the great video. I have a question do we have to inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth? Can we inhale and exhale through the mouth? Because i can take deeper breath if i inhale through the mouth. Thanks
Hi there. I usually breathe in and out through my nose during meditation. But there is not 1 way to do it. If you feel more comfortable with breathing in and out through the mouth, then do it this way. It's perfectly fine. Then, see how if feels for you. Does it help you feeling more calm, more centered? Then great! Meditation instructions are simply guidelines. One has to experiment and see for themselves what works and what doesn't. Hope this helps, good luck with your practice and let me know if you have any other questions!
My therapist wants me to practice mindfulness as a way to identify my thoughts and process them but almost immediately my mind goes clear how can i drill down and get those thoughts back?
At first, when we meditate, we get lost in thoughts, like a day dream and at some point we wake up from it. At the beginning, we may not recall what the content of the thought was. But with practice, we get better at catching our thoughts, when they start or when we are in the middle of then. We can see more clearly their content. When we are able to do that, we can look into our thoughts. Are they about the past? The future? Are they true? And very importantly, how do I react to these thoughts? Do I believe them? Very often, we think about the future. We think about what could go wrong. And we tend to believe those thoughts which create a state of anxiety. When we can catch those thoughts, we can look deeply into them, see that often they aren’t true, we can also understand where they came from. And with practice, we can just observe them and let them go, without grasping them, without getting entangled with them. Hope it makes sense. Let me know!

It does ... meditation trains us to recognize the energy of OCD when it is there and it can help us in those moments to let it pass without acting on it. If you have OCD, then the energy is very strong, it's compulsive and wwe cannot stop ourself from doing what we are obsessed by but by training our mind in meditation to recognize what is there without acting on it, we can bring this skill in those moments when the energy of OCD is there. Hope I make sense, maybe I'll make a video on it.
Helloooooooo @Daniel Starling! Nice to hear from you! I plan on covering many topics: mindful walking, eating, mindfulness of the body, of feelings, of thoughts, mindfulness and relationships, love, ... Mindfulness applied to many aspects of life!
@@PeacefulBreathing Very cool, I've been trying to do more of this recently. I started doing Tai Chi a little while ago and I can already notice how it's changing the way I move through my day to day activities. I'll be subscribing to check out your stuff. Cheers!
There are many meditation practices that can be helpful when dealing with pain. Mindful breathing will take your attention away from it. Learning to relax in the morning midst of the pain can be a great ally. Third, learning to separate the physical pain and the narrative that comes with it. The rumination on the pain can further the suffering. Fourth is the practice of self compassion, learning to be with the pain and with yourself with a loving and caring attitude. And finally, practicing gratitude can be a great shift in how we experience our difficulties. I hope this helps.

I made a video about meditating with music here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VBgUXp_gGIo.html. This has the pros and cons. If you want to meditate with music, I would recommend something light and relaxing. Maybe search on youtube, tibetan relaxing music or something like that.
